In the early years, emphasis was placed on custodial care, i.e. feeding, clothing, education and housing the orphans of war. The Home was in the Malcomess House, which was run as a large institution.\r\n\r\nTwenty-Two years ago, the Children’s Home acquired 5 houses in areas around the city. The children are now housed in group-homes, to create a hild-friendly environment. They range in ages from birth to 18 years. Each home can care for approximately 11 to 13 children. Most of the children in care are from disadvantaged communities, or dysfunctional families, and have been severely neglected; these include our HIV positive children. On average, there are around 121 children in full-time care.\r\n\r\nThe services of the East London Child and Youth Care Centre have developed over the last 84 years from purely residential care programmes to include community-based programmes focused on prevention and early intervention. A child should only be institutionalised as a last resort, and the emphasis is on keeping the child in his/her own environment.\r\n\r\nIn the nearby Fort Grey informal settlement, the Ubuntu Care, Development and Empowerment Centre was established in 1999. The centre provides a one-stop facility, where the community can come for support, guidance and assistance when in crisis (rape, drug abuse, violence, family problems, etc.). The centre provides aftercare facilities for children from the Sinomonde, Fort Grey and Santa Primary schools. A childcare in schools programme is operating in Willow Park School and Fort Grey Primary. An HTA Project (High Transmission Area) is also provided in this area. The Isibindi programme was launched in Fort Grey and Ncera Village three in March 2008.\r\n\r\nIn March 2008 the directors of the House on the Rock Section 21 Company approached the East London Child and Youth Care center to assist in managing the Centre. After consultation with the Department of Social Development it was agreed that we would manage the center until a long-term solution was found.\r\n\r\nThe services and programmes offered are diverse and adapted to the needs of the community served by the East London Child and Youth Care Centre. Its mission is to improve capacities of local authorities, NGOs and CBOs, governmental organisations and other stakeholders regarding urban agriculture.\r\n\r\nIncreasingly people live in cities, and urban poverty and urban food insecurity are rapidly rising. Growing food, herbs and medicinal plants, and raising animals in vacant open spaces in and around the cities, provides the urban poor with nutritious food and an important source of income. Urban farming also contributes to other urban issues such as social inclusion, urban water management, recycling of urban wastes, urban greening, recreation and ecological education.\r\n\r\nThe staff of ETC Urban Agriculture consists of experienced professionals of various disciplines, programme assistants, as well as a unit secretary and financial officer. This team is assisted on demand by specialists involved in other ETC units. ETC Urban Agriculture advisors have long term experience in various aspects of sustainable agricultural development in both the urban and rural context in a large number of countries.\r\n\r\nExpertise & Services\r\n\r\nETC-Urban Agriculture organises its team and work around the following main themes:\r\n\r\n1. Urban agriculture, poverty alleviation and local economic development.\r\n\r\nUrban agriculture can play an important role as a complementary strategy for poverty alleviation, social inclusion and local economic development. ETC-UA supports the transition from subsistence to market oriented farming by assisting in technology development, improved farm management, strengthening of farmers organisations, supporting micro-enterprises involved in production of compost and other inputs, as well as in food processing, market analysis and development of direct producer-consumer linkages, etcetera. Special attention is given to women and unemployed youth.\r\n\r\n2. Urban agriculture, food security and nutrition.\r\n\r\nUrban agriculture can make important contributions to improvement of food security and nutrition of the urban poor by production for (home) consumption and local exchange or sales of surpluses which substantially enhances access of poor urban families to fresh foods at reasonable prices and reduces food costs allowing to save income for other essentials (medicines, school fees).\r\nETA-UA assists in designing strategies to enhance security of land use, introduction of low cost micro-farming technologies and nutritional education. Special attention is given to disadvantaged groups and families affected by HIV-Aids.\r\n\r\n3. Reuse of urban organic wastes and waste water in urban agriculture\r\n\r\nReuse of urban organic wastes and wastewater in agriculture under proper management, converts wastes into valuable resources (nutrients and water) for farmers, while reducing negative impact on health and environment. ETC-UA supports this by documenting and dissemination of best practices, by assisting in the set up of household and community based waste collection and compost production units, and by assisting in the design and implementation of municipal strategies that reduce the health and environmental risks associated with reuse of wastewater while enhancing its socio-economic benefits.\r\n\r\n4. Integration of urban agriculture in urban planning and design\r\n\r\nIntegration of agriculture in the urban planning system is an important precondition for the development of sustainable and safe urban agriculture for income and food as well as for urban greening, micro-climate regulation, landscape and biodiversity management, creation of buffer zones and land reserves, water management and recreational options for the citizens (agro-tourism). ETC-UA supports inclusion of urban agriculture in urban land use planning and the design of new neighbourhoods or slum development projects. FIT is part of a network of organizations initiated by ILO in six African Countries in East Central and West Africa in the early 90s. FIT has identified personnel to be a key resource in development and therefore places Capacity Building at the core of its activities.\r\n\r\nFIT believes that effective services that blend well with the objectives of development agencies, governments and those of target beneficiaries will increase growth and generate employment. Our strategy for sustainable livelihoods is to improve the supply of sustainable development services and skills to communities and SMEs through capacity building and access to markets and or services.\r\n\r\nIn Kenya and most countries in Sub Saharan Africa 80% of the population reside in rural areas with approximately 90% deriving their livelihoods from agriculture and agriculture related activities. The highest poverty levels are also to be found in the rural areas. FIT has therefore concentrated on promoting initiatives in the rural areas aimed at promoting agriculture as a business.\r\n\r\nFIT therefore believes that targeting the poorest people to be able to participate in their own development will spur sustainable poverty alleviation across board. Hence FIT Programmes have focused on promoting initiatives that are cost effective and can be implemented by the people themselves.\r\n\r\nFIT Resources offers exceptional collective knowledge and experience in innovative approaches to agricultural & enterprise development, intervention design, implementation and evaluation, management, and diversification of income resources among the rural poor. Our programmes have helped many entrepreneurs and development organizations to restructure and rationalize and commercialize their activities in order to improve wealth creation leading to improved and sustainable livelihoods.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat we do\r\n\r\nBroadly, FIT promotes SME development through:\r\n\r\n•\tResearch\r\n•\tDesign and implementation of programmes\r\n•\tProject analysis, design and or management \r\n•\tMonitoring and Evaluation of SME projects\r\n•\tCapacity building for institutions who work with SMEs\r\n\r\nMain Focus\r\n\r\nFIT works with and through:\r\n\r\n•\tMedia houses in the development and implementation of commercially viable media programmes that benefit smallholder farmers mainly in rural communities. FIT builds capacities of Media staff and consultants,\r\n•\tDonors, Governments and trade associations that promote smallholder farmers in specific sub-sectors especially honey and the horticultural sub-sectors. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants working for governments and donors and,\r\n•\tFinancial institutions that support micro-entrepreneurs in agribusiness. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants in financial institutions. \r\n\r\n\r\nStandards and Monitoring\r\n\r\nAll FIT projects are subject to continuous monitoring, feedback and regular reviews to ensure that the assignments are completed within prescribed timeframe and emerging issues consistently addressed.\r\n\r\nInstitutional Links\r\n\r\nNetworking is a fundamental component of FIT’s business strategy. FIT was established by ILO as a network of organisations in six East, Central and West Africa. The network provides FIT enormous opportunities experience sharing and support amongst the network members. FIT has received support from various donor agencies who include the Dutch Government, ILO Technical Assistance, Department for International Development (DfID) and Micro Enterprise Support Programme of the European Union.\r\n", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 232, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 626, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 233, "latitude": 11.09447, "longitude": -2.098178, "city": "Leo", "state": " ", "address_1": "", "address_2": "", "postcode": "B P 131 ", "iati_country": "BF", "country": 24, "location_target": 626 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/da/56/da56d1a7dbac89909c1ee6cc5a4d6edb.jpg", "latitude": "11.09447", "longitude": "-2.098178", "city": "Leo", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-03-26T11:06:49+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:54.301108+01:00", "name": "FNZ", "long_name": "FEDERATION NIAN ZWE", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "C", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 70, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.fnianzwe.com/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+226 50 41 34 56", "mobile": "+226 78 01 00 16", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Richard Batieno", "contact_email": "bat_rich@yahoo.fr", "description": "Création:\r\nCréé en 2000 sous la denomination CPPAS, devint FEPPASI en 2003, puis FNZ en 2010 avec une envergure régionale.
