It has a capacity-building mission targeted at Burundian Leaders, of all origins, in order to help them work together on the establishment of the foundations of national reconciliation. "description": "Kadtuntaya Foundation, Inc. (KFI) is a non-government, non-profit and development-oriented organization, registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in July 1989 to respond to the widening social and economic gap and the growing animosity between the Moros, the Lumads and the Christian Settlers in Central Mindanao. In its early years of operation, KFI was working mostly within Cotabato City to facilitate inter-faith dialogues among the tri-people and to build awareness on the possibility of co-existence. The Organization’s work was later on expanded to providing livelihood assistance and community services to the marginalized groups in the city. With the great demand of such initiatives, KFI extended its operations to several other municipalities of Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato, with special projects in Lanao del Sur, Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi.\r\n\r\nToday, KFI has a total of 64 administrative staff, development and field experts working on community organizing and strengthening; providing community services such as health campaigns, water and sanitation; facilitating agricultural and livelihood development; coordinating disaster management and peace building.",

"description": "Dia Vikas was established in early 2008 as a social investor to support the growth of Indian microfinance and encourage the development of start-up operations in underserved areas. Our primary objective is the reduction in poverty rather than a financial return. \r\nDia Vikas partners with microfinance institutions to directly touch the lives of millions of people in profound need in an effective and very efficient way. \r\n\r\n\r\nIndia is home to the largest number of poor in the world, with over 900 million people living on less than US$2 per day, as per United Nations Human Development Report, 2007/2008. This statistic is overwhelming. \r\n\r\n\r\nHowever, microfinance is recognised as a sustainable, scaleable poverty alleviation response, providing resources to individuals to support and grow their livelihoods and improve the quality of their lives. Currently, we estimate that microfinance in India serves around 20 million of an estimated 100 million potential households. This leaves at least 80 million households unserved and trapped in a cycle of poverty.\r\n\r\nThe portfolio of 18 microfinance institutions (MFIs) we support in India serve over 16,00,000 million clients today. Provided the required capital is available, the portfolio is forecast to grow to 25 partners, serving around five million clients by 2015.",

"description": "Brief history and nature of the organization:\r\nBVHA is a Secular & Voluntary Association of Charitable Hospital, Health Centres formed in the year 1969 and got registered in February 1970 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 at Patna, Bihar. BVHA pioneered the movement of Voluntary Health Association in India. Other State Voluntary Health Association that have sprung-up in many states of India, including the Central Body Voluntary Health Association of India, New Delhi after BVHA's inception. BVHA works to make Health a reality for the people of Bihar especially the weaker section of the Society through Voluntary organization with the active involvement and the participation of the community. BVHA has been contributing immensely by providing impetus and direction to the Community Health upliftment in Bihar State for the last 44 years.\r\n\r\nDuring the initial years BVHA was mainly involved with the hospitals and relief activities during the natural calamities. Gradually it stepped down to the grass-root level NGOs and put effort to make a network of voluntary organizations directly associated with the mass and responding to their health needs with the involvement of large network of 127 members and more than 300 associate non-member voluntary organizations at present. Now BVHA not only conducts relief but also actively involved in capacity building programmes of voluntary organizations and developing model programmes for the major health problems e.g. Reproductive Health Issues Malaria, T.B., Diarrhoea, IDD, Kala-azar , Water Born Diseases ,Tobacco related diseases , Life style disorder etc.\r\n\r\nGoal:\r\nThe goal of BVHA is to have a healthy community through community health action, by promoting social justice in the provision & distribution of health care. It is believed that people grow better when they are encouraged to do whatever they can for themselves. It is hoped that good health may become a reality for all the people only through organizational activities at the voluntary level. Persons and associations classed as voluntary have great opportunity to help people at the weakest & most depressed. To see the value of good health and have access to basic health services as human rights. Primary health is the prime crux of the health care delivery system and is most important to ensure community health promotion.",

"description": "Africa Alive! is a youth-serving organization started in 1998 with a vision to build and empower a healthier HIV/AIDS free generation of African youth. The mission of Africa Alive! is to promote positive behavior change among young people through advocacy, empowerment, partnership and resource/community mobilization, in order to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa. \r\n\r\nThe initiatives developed and undertaken by Africa Alive! over the past years have adopted the strategic approach of creating a favorable environment for, and promoting broad based community discourse on healthy and high risk sexual behaviors. The organization’s mandate promotes the full participation of young people at every level of programme implementation. Africa Alive! uses audience and message strategy of edutainment (entertainment education). \r\n\r\nThis approach combines entertainment and education to attract the attention and provide a forum for delivering behaviour change messages. Africa Alive! reaches African youth by tapping into popular, creative channels of communication that appeal to youth in Africa and all over the world such as;\r\n• Radio and TV drama that help educate and promote safe behaviours by depicting and discussing HIV/AIDS prevention and dealing with the decision-making process regarding sexual activity \r\n• Puppetry- using puppetry and folk media as an entertainment and educational tool of reaching the youth with appropriate messages on their reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention, including community sensitization and mobilization on the uptake of other RH services such as STI screening, FP services and VCT.\r\n• Traveling road shows (music performance and quiz) that reach both urban and rural areas, getting youth involved in talking about HIV/AIDS\r\n• Radio and TV variety/talk shows with phone-ins, discussions, and mini-draws addressing HIV/AIDS\r\n• Peer education outreach in schools\r\n• Training and working with young music artiste and club DJs as youth advocates on RH/HIV/AIDS issues and\r\n• Comics with HIV/AIDS prevention messages.\r\n• Sporting events with prevention messages at break, on tickets, and at HIV/AIDS information booths in and around the venue.\r\n",

At the time of the Delegation’s establishment, its principal mandate was, close co-operation with the Government of Kenya, and implementation of the development cooperation. Over the years the role of the Delegation has expanded considerably. We are now fully involved in political dialogue with the Government of Kenya, as well as in the political co-ordination process with the 19 EU Member States represented in Nairobi.",

"description": "The Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a women’s trade union that was started in Gujarat in 1972 by Smt. Elaben Bhatt, with the aim of organising women in the informal sector. SEWA represents the convergence of three movements: the labour movement, the women’s movement and the cooperative movement. Based on the philosophy of Gandhiji, SEWA’s goal is to achieve full employment and self-reliance for all its members. \r\n\r\nSEWA defines ‘full employment’ as employment that provides work security, income security, food security and social security. ‘Self-reliance’ refers to economic self–sufficiency and equitable roles in the decision-making process. These goals are achieved through a strategy of “struggle and development”. The struggle is against the many constraints imposed on women by society and the economy, and the development activities are aimed to strengthen women's collective bargaining power and provide them with sustainable new alternatives.\r\n\r\nGenesis of SEWA Bharat: \r\n\r\nSEWA’s experience in Gujarat provided encouragement to women in other states as well, with sister organizations being set up in a total of nine states till date. Together, these sister organizations constitute SEWA Bharat, the All-India Federation of Self Employed Women’s Associations. SEWA’s mandate is to highlight the issues of women working in the informal sector, and to strengthen the capacity of the different organizations that serve them. SEWA Bharat is a membership-based organization.\r\n\r\nLocal community health workers are the cornerstone of SEWA’s health program. Known as sathis, SEWA health workers serve the entire community, and work to organize SEWA members in their villages and neighbourhoods. They are educators, service providers and advocates. \r\n\r\n Objective: \r\nThe objectives of SEWA’s health programme are as follows:\r\n1. To build the community's capacity to demand their sexual and reproductive rights within a broader framework of the rights to health and social security \r\n2. To work with partners to bridge the gap in government services and increase the availability subsidized or free sexual, reproductive and other health services and advocating for availability, accessibility and quality of public services.\r\nSome of the schemes that SEWA actively works on are:\r\n• Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY Maternity benefit for institutional delivery)\r\n• Minority schemes\r\n• National Rural Employment Guarantee Act \r\n• RSBY- insurance for BPL families\r\n• Indira Avas Yojana\r\n• Ladli: Education of the girl child\r\n• Old age and widow pension\r\n• Worker schemes: ex. Bidi cards and entitlements, \r\n• Death benefits\r\n• Disability certification and benefits\r\n• Birth, death and BPL certificates",

"description": "Dalit is a Bengali word, stands for “oppressed”. Many also decode Dalit as untouchable. Dalit people have not been socially included in mainstream due to their so called “impure” profession e.g. skinning, tanning, shoe polishing, sweeping, sewerage cleaning, burying of dead bodies, saloon, drum beating, washing, etc. Literacy rate among the Dalits is about 25% which is far behind from the national average.\r\n\r\n“Dalit” to “DALIT” as an Organization\r\nThe organization has been named “DALIT” to represent the Dalit and indigenous community people. DALIT got registration from NGO Affairs Bureau (N.1374) in 1999. Some Dalit people were the visionary-dreamers of DALIT and autobiography of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar was their immense inspiration. DALIT approaches to the Dalit community with employment opportunities, health and education facilities. Actually DALIT is a one of the non profit organization, working for empowerment of socially excluded groups to lend a hand them to meet up their basic needs. Human resource development and exploring potentiality of the Dalit indigenous community people are the ultimate goal and objective of the organization. DALIT started its Water, Sanitation, Arsenic Mitigation and Hygiene Promotion in 2003 through community led ‘integrated, participatory, empowering’ approach. DALIT’s goal is to provide sustainable and integrated water, sanitation, arsenic mitigation and hygiene promotion services in the remote rural areas and break the contamination cycle of unsanitary latrines, contaminated water and unsafe hygiene practices. The program aims to ensure access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene promotion services for the disadvantaged communities in remote rural areas of Khulna, Jessore and Satkhira districts with the donor support. The core of the program is the CBOs as main actor at community level to assess existing water and sanitation situation of the entire village and identify issues that need urgent action. They select sites for community water sources, collect contribution money and monitor usage and maintenance of community water points and latrines. To strengthen the capacity of CBOs, DALIT provided various training for their capacity development in a way to achieve national targets as well as Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) sets the target of achieving 100% sanitation and safe water coverage by 2015. \r\n\r\nDALIT interventions are to improve the health of the disadvantaged population in an affordable, equitable and sustainable way in reducing the burden of disease, relieve human suffering and ensure considerable economic benefits, with particular focus on reducing child morbidity and mortality. Mention that hand washing alone can reduce mortality by 42%. Among the constraints to improve water and sanitation are the lack of hygienic knowledge and practices, insufficient and inadequate financial resources, and inappropriate adaptation of drinking water sources and sanitation systems. The community led approaches in the ASWASH program may help to conceptualize the water and sanitation situation, leading towards a solution overcoming these constraints. It will help the community to understand the necessity of integrating safe water, sanitation and hygiene practices, which might be a more effective measure than providing only complimentary hardware.\r\nThe situation of rural sanitation, hygiene and water supply in Bangladesh indicates that 32% people use sanitary latrines, 9% people open defecating, 20% people use hanging latrines, 7% children with diarrhea, 15% safe disposal of faces of children of under 5, and 72%* people have access to safe drinking water. This hospital was established in 1907, by the Baptist Missionary Society, U.K. It started as a small health centre, initially providing clinic based primary health care and slowly grew into the main referral centre for the whole of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) and also part of neighbouring upazilas of Chittagong District. CHC has been working in both curative and preventive health, and has been rewarded by strong confidence and acceptance of its service from the whole population of CHT especially the tribal groups. The hospital is fully-staffed and has a new hospital building, which includes all basic and essential medical, surgical, obstetric and paediatric facilities.",

"description": "Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) was established in 1953 under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Humaira Sayeed the founding president of the Association. The Association is governed by a National Executive committee consisting of 21 Members. National luminaries like late Alamgir M. A. Kabir, late Professor Dr. Md. Ibrahim, late Dr. (Captain) Abul Kashem, late Dr. Syed A K M Hafizur Rahman, Mr. M Shamsul Islam, Shaheed Md. Maizuddin, Kazi Anisur Rahman and other eminent personalities led FPAB since its inception.\r\n\r\nThe prime objective which inspired the establishment of the Association was to improve quality of life of the under privileged section of the people by advocating family planning as a basic human right and motivating people towards the concept of small family.\r\n\r\nMission:\r\nFPAB aims to improve the quality of lives of individuals, by campaigning for sexual health and reproductive right through advocacy and services, especially for poor and vulnerable people.\r\nFPAB defends the right of all young people to enjoy their sexual lives free from ill-health, unwanted pregnancy, violence and discrimination.\r\nFPAB supports a woman's right to choose to termite her pregnancy legally and safely.\r\nFPAB strives to eliminate Sexually Transmitted Infections and to eradicate HIV-AIDS, and FPAB carries its work in partnership with other organizations and donors to achieve our goals more efficiently and effectively.\r\n\r\nAs an affiliate of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), FPAB is the oldest and largest family planning non-government organization in Bangladesh, which pioneered family planning movement in the country. FPAB played an important role in formulating national family planning programme introduced by the then government of Pakistan in 1965. With the span of more than 50 years of its emergence, FPAB has made a significant achievement in creating awareness among the eligible couples about family planning and annually contributes 7% of the total national family planning performance. In conformity with the global and national needs, FPAB shifted its thrust from lone family planning interventions to the holistic approach of reproductive health in mid 90s of the last century. Instead of targeting fertile couples, interventions of FPAB now involve men and women of all ages with special focus on the disadvantaged segment of the population. Beneficiaries of FPAB have now exceeded ten million people. ",
