Gracious S-Dery", "contact_email": "peps-cwa@africaonline.com.gh", "description": "PEPS-C is a Roman Catholic NGO, which was established by the Brothers FIC in collaboration with the Catholic Diocese of Wa. PEPS-C was registered and incorporated as a Company limited by Guarantee (NGO), with registration number G. 4,208 at the Registrar General Department, since 1999.\r\n\r\nThe establishment of the centre became necessary when it was realized that a large number of graduates trained by the vocational schools in the upper west region were drifting to the urban areas of southern Ghana because of lack of employment opportunities.\r\n\r\nThe high unemployment rate and poverty of the youth in the region was a social problem. Most of the youth after passing out of technical/vocational institutions migrate to the urban areas of the Upper West Region and also to urban areas of the regions in the south of the country in search of jobs. Migration rate is therefore very high leading to low retention of skilled manpower for the region’s development. PEPS-C as a development actor recognises, this as a social problem, and could only be addressed by putting in place an enabling environment that would attract and retain the skilled youth in the region, and rural areas for socio-economic development. \r\n\r\nDriven by a desire to change this situation, PEPS-C formulated a vision that intends to turn the situation around. This vision is about a future where PEPS-C would become a major development force in reducing youth migration through promoting employment opportunities for the youth of the Upper West Region in technical vocational institutions. \r\n\r\nThe main aim of PEPS-C was to mobilize these Technical/Vocational School leavers into viable producer enterprises to enable them earn a living through sustainable self-employment and thereby increase their retention rate in the Upper West region.\r\n\r\nOver the years, PEPS-C has been able to promote 90 groups of cooperatives or sole producer enterprises, dotted all over the North Western part of the Northern Regions of Ghana, engaged in various fields of technical activities. These enterprises / co-operatives are all engaged in various trade areas such as, building, woodwork, metalwork, textile weaving, batik tie and dye, dressmaking etc. The total number of youth actively engaged in production, stood at +384 of which 249 representing 65% were women and 135 representing 35% were men. PEPS-C has been trying to provide financial and technical support services to these enterprises. \r\n\r\nIn the year 2000 the project was evaluated and some of these enterprises were found to be weak in their business. Some of the identifiable causes of their weakness have been mainly, inadequate knowledge in financial and business management skills and lack of information leading to market access. \r\n\r\nIn this regard, the financial and technical support services have been found to be insufficient. Subsequently, after conducting need assessment among the enterprises, it was thought that besides finding appropriate ways of getting pertinent information, leading to market access, it was necessary to provide this complementary management training, which did not form part of their formal training in the Technical/Vocational schools. By so doing PEPS-C would be promoting viable producer enterprises. The mission and vision formulated by PEPS-C is therefore as follows.\r\n\r\nMission and Vision of PEPS-C\r\n\r\nMission\r\n“Promoting viable producer enterprises towards sustained employment of the skilled youth for the development of the individual and North-western Ghana”\r\n\r\nVision \r\nPEPS-C is committed to the following vision; “Ensuring total sustainability of all enterprises being promoted.”\r\n\r\nThe following strategic objectives have been formulated to address the mission and vision. \r\n\r\nStrategic Development Objectives\r\n• To mobilize the skilled youth into viable producer enterprises to enable them earn a living through sustainable self-employment and thereby increase their retention rate for the development of their communities and the north-western part of the Northern region of Ghana.\r\nStrategic Project Objectives \r\n As the core business of PEPS-C is small enterprise promotion the proposed project seeks to realize the following objectives:\r\n\r\n• To train all the enterprise groups under the support of PEPS-C, in the area of business management, financial management, and entrepreneurship skills development, to enhance their knowledge, and improve their production in both quality and quantity, in the coming three years\r\n\r\n• To research into ways and means of accessing market and market expansion for the product and services of the enterprises\r\n\r\nPEPS-C has a long and accumulated knowledge of small-scale business development in the Upper West Region. This is fundamental in understanding the dynamics of the situation in the region and PEPS-C, definitely has leverage in this regard. It is this accumulated knowledge that enables PEPS-C to identify capacity building as a crucial factor to the success of the enterprises promotion activities. To facilitate this process, PEPS-C has entered into partnership with C4C and IICD to get the necessary assistance in order to build the capacity of teachers in four (4) Vocational Schools using ICT. This is intended to develop their capacity in the use of ICT tools to improve on the quality of their teaching learning activities. The focus is to equip the teachers with the relevant skills of using available ICT tools to enhance the delivery of their lessons and how to access relevant information and materials to improve upon the quality of their teaching learning activities. In the long run it is intended that students will reap the benefits by being equipped with the relevant skills for the job market. It can never be overstressed that this will contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the youth in the Upper West Region in particular and Ghana as a whole. \r\n \r\nPEPS-C’s intervention in promoting employment for technical and vocational graduates is paramount to the stimulation of economic activities in the rural areas. This move is in line with government’s policy on private sector development.\r\n\r\nPEPS-C in its own capacity is running/undertaken the following\r\n• A community savings and lending micro-finance project known as PEPS-C Enterprise Banking Project (EBANK Project) which afforts enterprise members in their communities the opportunity (skills, simple book keeping and financial knowledge) to form smaller savings and internal lending groups with other community members. This has led to the start-up of a credit union known as Producer Enterprises Cooperative Credit Union [(PECCU) (PECCU is currently operating as a study group under the regulations)] with enterprise members forming the core of it. This became necessery becuase PEPS-C could no longer support its enterprise members financially. PEPS-C initiated all these becuase, we belief that together with our enterprise members we can create and share wealth.\r\n\r\n• A commercial unit/department which trades in materials such as those for building, woodwork, metalwork, and yarns for textile weaving among other services provided to its enterprise members and the general public. \r\n\r\nPEPS-C as a promoter of small scale businesses and enterpreneurs hopes to do more in the years to come.\r\n", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 828, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 922, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 829, "latitude": 6.815269, "longitude": 39.295487, "city": "Dodoma", "state": "", "address_1": "", "address_2": "", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "TZ", "country": 12, "location_target": 922 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/65/14/6514bda066058efbfd85ab5d94fd459d.jpg", "latitude": "6.815269", "longitude": "39.295487", "city": "Dodoma", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-11-20T14:20:10+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:55.217333+01:00", "name": "Government of Tanzania", "long_name": "Government of Tanzania", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "G", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 10, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.tanzania.go.tz/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "", "description": "The United Republic of Tanzania is located in Eastern Africa between longitude 29o and 41o East, Latitude 1o and 12o South.\r\n\r\nThe United Republic of Tanzania was formed out of the union of two sovereign states namely Tanganyika and Zanzibar. We consider sport an effective tool for development and peace as it provides a regulated and neutral context where emotions such as aggression, anger and sadness, but also joy and happiness can be expressed and reflected upon. It disregards geographical borders and is a universal language that people all over the world understand. Furthermore it is a cost-effective way to reach large audiences of active participants and non-participants. \r\nIn all our activities our overall objective is to improve the capacities and sustainability of local organisations that are located in marginalized and (post)conflict areas. We focus on the needs and requests from local Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that have a wish to initiate or improve sport for development and peace practices. Within our organisation we emphasize and promote the right for participation for all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, religion or handicap. Among the countries in which we are active are Burkina Faso, Mali, Indonesia, Kenya, Uganda, South-Sudan, Surinam and South Africa.\r\n\r\nIn order to use sports as a tool for development and peace it is imperative to develop, organise and structure projects and programmes in such a manner that the positive force of sports can be used. International Sports Alliance offers professional competences to develop and improve the works of sustainable sport for development projects and programmes. We offer academic and professional expertise on sports leadership, communication, project planning, organizational management, lobbying and education. This was as a result of deliberations that took place at a satellite meeting preceding the International Aids Conference in Durban in 2000. National Nurses Associations had in their own countries been working on improving the conditions for nurses, however in the absence of mechanisms to share best practices; they had been left to re invent the wheel.\r\nNurses and midwives of the region realized that they have to join hands in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic that was and is still hitting the SADC region hard. Thus this network was formed. SANNAM has made tremendous strides towards strengthening NNAs/NNOs (National Nursing Associations/Organisations) through capacity building, networking and sharing of best practices. Its 15 member NNOs/NNAs currently represent over 200,000 Nurses and Midwives. \r\n\r\nThis regional structure is registered in terms of the Non-profit Organizations Act of 1997 in South Africa and coordinates all projects from its Secretariat established at 605 Church Street (DENOSA Headquarters), Pretoria 0001, South Africa. \r\n\r\nThe Secretariat is led by an Executive Director, supported by a qualified Finance Officer and an Administrative Secretary and overseen by an Executive Committee of five members, who are presidents of member NNAs/NNOs. The secretariat ensures the effective implementation and management of regional projects through coordinating meetings, contracting services effectively, and monitoring and evaluation. It also serves to strengthen the network and ensure that programmes are integrated through sharing information and consolidating the organisation. \r\nThe Secretariat is managed in agreement with labour regulations of the host country (South Africa) and collaborates with SADC Secretariat Health Sector and HIV/AIDS Unit for regional concerns and partnership in some projects. Member NNAs/NNOs are legal entities registered in their countries. The organization has initiated negotiations with the SADC secretariat for long –term sustainability.\r\n\r\nSANNAM collaborate with other regional and international organizations such as: CIDA through CNA, ICN, WHO – Afro, ILO, UNAIDS, EQUINET, Universities…and is member of the GHWA.\r\n\r\nSANNAM has received support from CORDAID since 2009 to implement a 2 year project that aimed at improving the working conditions of Nurses and Midwives in the region through strengthening the lobbying and advocating capacity of NNAs/NNOs. The results of this project inspired the need to further enhance advocacy capacity of Nursing and Midwifery leaders at national and peripheral level for effective involvement in decision making and influencing health policies.\r\n\r\nSANNAM vision is: Improved regional health services through strengthening National Nurses Associations/Organisations (NNAs/NNOs); its activities focus on: networking, capacity building, experiences sharing, twinning partnership, lobby and advocacy, research (not well developed) and support to members (e.g coaching and solidarity interventions).", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 852, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 946, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 853, "latitude": 52.075054, "longitude": 4.309973, "city": "Den Haag", "state": "", "address_1": "", "address_2": "", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "NL", "country": 3, "location_target": 946 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/29/26/2926e56d1574e6613ed087b0627013b1.jpg", "latitude": "52.075054", "longitude": "4.309973", "city": "Den Haag", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-11-27T17:41:59+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:52.875474+01:00", "name": "Cordaid Urban Matters", "long_name": "Cordaid Urban Matters / Smart Solutions for Slums", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.cordaidurbanmatters.com/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "070-3136300", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "info@cordaid.nl", "description": "Slums are areas full of potential. In 1981 it was indigenized as a Private Voluntary Development Organization (PVDO). VERC was designed to fill the void of in-country capacity building support to government and related community and rural development agencies. Its initial activities included communication, education, training material development, imparting training, conduct participatory action research and technology promotion.\r\nVERC’s field program evolved out of its need for an environment to apply its innovations in participatory development. VERC also worked to undertake capacity building activities of the rural poor, beginning with women’s literacy, health and sanitation and human resource development.\r\nRight from the beginning, it was however obvious that VERC’s main forte was its training services. Its commitment to quality materials, content and trainers quickly led to its recognition as a leading organization in this field. Its variety of development education, management, sectoral and skill training courses have reached almost around 417680 people to March 2012.\r\nVision : A self-reliant society based on justice, equity and sustainability, where every human being has the equal opportunity to maximize their potentials.\r\nIn all its work, VERC is committed to the principle of “self-actualization” a process of raising people’s consciousness to a level at which they can realize their potentials and are motivated to reorder their lives. \r\nPROGRAMS\r\nEntering its 36th year of operation, VERC’s activities have both grown and diversified as to include:\r\nField level\r\n\r\n Institution Building & Income Generation\r\n Water, Sanitation Hygiene Promotion, Arsenic Mitigation & Technology \r\n Development\r\n Education\r\n Health – Preventive and Clinical support on maternal and child health \r\n care\r\n Environmental Protection\r\n Assisting the GOB in promoting good governance in the country \r\n Disaster Preparedness and Management\r\n Integrating Disability Issues in Community Development\r\n\r\nSupport Services \r\n Training & Communication\r\n Research, Monitoring, Evaluation & Documentation\r\n Capacity Building ofs Local Organisations and Strengthening of Local \r\n Government \r\nAbout eighty percent of VERC's services are aimed at the interest of the poor women and children. In many of its human development efforts, VERC’s success has been encouraging, though along with its share of ups VERC has had to endure its share of downs as well. It is in the face of adversity that VERC has learnt many of its most valuable lessons.
