"description": "Since its inception in 1984, ZARD has played an active role in providing information from its gender based research. Considering the 22 years of the organisation’s existence, members, staff and other network partners through a series of workshops that commenced in September, 2005 discussed the need for ZARD to rethink its vision, mission, relevance, mandate and new focus thus began the strategic planning process which is still ongoing. The following is a summary from the draft plan for 2007-2011:\r\n\r\nVISION\r\n\r\nA Zambia where women and men equitably benefit from and are fully integrated in, sustainable development processes at local and national levels.\r\n\r\nMISSION\r\n\r\nTo contribute to the development and advancement of the status of women in relation to men, through the production of evidence-based information, alternative approaches to development, capacity building of communities and coalition building with like-minded organizations locally and internationally.",

During the period between 1990-1996 when there was no overall law on local government, ZELS was very active on behalf of the municipalities. The Association produced and disseminated model ordinances for its members. It also provided a forum to debate these various models as well as participated in drafting the new local government law. Under the present governing charter membership for the municipalities is obligatory. \r\n\r\nAccording to the Association’s statute adopted in October, 2004, the overall mission of ZELS is to advance the principles of local governance through the following activities: \r\n• Promoting and encouraging mutual cooperation and information sharing among its members\r\n• Serving as a lobby group and acting as an advisory body to the central government in the arena of local government; \r\n• Establishing relations with national and international associations of local authorities; \r\n• Promoting continuous and constructive cooperation between the local governments and the state authorities; and \r\n• Organizing training and conference opportunities to its members. \r\n",

We create, strengthen and expand opportunities for girls and women in Bangladesh. We believe that if girls and women are given the opportunities to fully realize their potentials, they will be the main solutions to the poverty, maternal & neo-born mortalities and gender based violence. PHREB works with, for and on behalf of girls and women to realize the fully sexual and reproductive health and rights for women in Bangladesh. \r\n\r\nFounded in 2004, PHREB works in Chittagong Hill Tracts, Chittagong Metropolitan City, Moheshkhali Island sub-district, Kutubdia Island sub-district and Cox's Bazar Sadar sub-district. \r\n\r\nWe work in partnership with Cordaid in the Netherlands, Kios in Finland and Swedish Amnesty Fund in Sweden. We began our work in 2005 with the financial support from ICCO in the Netherlands. \r\n\r\nCurrently, we have 32 full time staff and 109 teachers and 7 volunteers.\r\n\r\nBKAF is the largest alliance of adolescent girls in Bangladesh with more than half a million members and supporters. PHREB initiatated BKAF in 2005 with an aim to empower adolescent girls to speak out, demand and access their human rights by improving their self-esteem, life-skills and leadership and focusing on the issues of sexual and reprodutive health and rights and violence against girls and women. Research Africa creates activities that effectively expand opportunities for the ‘Base of the Pyramid’ in developing countries. Our business model engages and empowers low-income individuals as valued consumers of a wide variety of products and services. In exchange for their feedback the short-term benefit for respondents is the mobile phone credit they receive for participating in surveys. Long-term benefits will involve organizations designing and implementing more tailored strategies towards their target groups, which in turn leads to better activities, products and services based on peoples’ needs. \r\n\r\nResearch Africa is a newly launched business set up by Text to Change. With a 4 year successful track record, TTC has a wide range of experience in using mobile phone based solutions for health education, monitoring and advocacy purposes, working with both the public and private sectors in 12 countries in Africa and 2 in Latin America.",

"description": "Friendship is a value-based organisation founded in Bangladesh in 1998 by Runa Khan and Yves Marre. Friendship identifies and reaches the poorest of the poor and the most marginalised communities.\r\n\r\nOur flagship project is the Lifebuoy Friendship Hospital (LFH) an oil barge converted to a floating hospital to provide healthcare to 4 million of Bangladesh's most marginalised people. With an aim to provide essential basic services in the most inaccessible and hard to reach areas, Friendship initially focused on the chars (nomadic islands) and riverbank areas of northern Bangladesh; places where there was no basic healthcare or education offered by either government or non-governmental organisations. Over time we expanded from providing primary and secondary healthcare to education, income generation, relief and rehabilitation programmes, and, most recently, interest-free loans and savings schemes.\r\nFrom our emergency relief work, especially after cyclone Sidr in November 2007, stemmed our focus and subsequent activities in the southern part of Bangladesh. In recent years, the communities that we work with are seeing the worst effects of climate change such as seasons drastically changing and crippling agriculture, increasing floods and land erosion in the north, and increasing sea level and salinity in the south. To successfully support people who are having to shift their homes two to three times a year, losing their traditional source of livelihood, and their land, our programmes have had to integrate the effects of climate change in order for them to be effective. "description": "Center for Regeneration and Empowerment of Africa Through Africa (CREATA) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2006.\r\n\r\nCREATA is about peace and transformational development; we strive to bring Kenyans to a common ground to end violent conflicts by addressing the structural injustices through sports as a catalyst for development, promoting peace, good governance and education targeting children, young people, women and marginalized communities. \r\n\r\nSince it was founded CREATA has found a niche in using sports as a tool for community transformation and catalyst for development. Through sports CREATA has been running two main programs namely; Sports for Development Program, Peace and Governance Program. This year, CREATA is rolling out Football for WASH (F4WASH) program in 60 primary schools in Migori County – a four year program funded by KNVB and UNICEF. \r\n\r\nSports for Development program started as voluntary process where communities were mobilized though football to address the issues of education in Uriri in Migori County. Through the junior sports clubs created, parents came together to form savings associations. Through this savings scheme parents are able to save money for thier children’s school fees, as the organisation boosts their savings through matching funds. Currently we have turnover of about USD 100 per month. In the first year of operating this fund (2012) CREATA was able to fully sponsor 3 children in high school. We are however hoping that this turnover is going to increase and pay for more students. CREATA has establishing 50 sports clubs and about 5 active parents associations. \r\n\r\nIn our Peace and Governance program, CREATA with the funding of IFP Kenya has recently carried out a baseline survey of the knowledge gaps in the communities about the new constitutions and is currently rolling out community training, awareness and forums on the contents of the new constitution. In this project, coaches and sports clubs are the main ambassadors of the message, principles and spirit of the new constitution. \r\n\r\nVision: \r\nCREATA envisages a peaceful, transformed society and a just world where the integrity of creation and human dignity are the pillars for sustainable development. \r\n\r\nMission:\r\nOur aim is to enhance peace, education, human solidarity using sports as a catalyst for community transformation and development.
