The OSCE has its roots in the 1973 Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (an East-West forum).\r\n\r\nThe OSCE’s mandate in Bosnia and Herzegovina was established under the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP), drawn up in Dayton in late 1995 and signed in Paris in December 1995 to end close to four years of conflict. Since then, BiH has faced the daunting task of rebuilding itself as a multi-ethnic, democratic society.\r\nThe OSCE is one of the key agencies responsible for helping BiH make this transition and began its work in December 1995.",

"description": "NALAS is a network of associations of local authorities of South East Europe. The Network brings together 15 Associations which represent roughly 9000 local authorities, directly elected by more than 80 million citizens of this region. The NALAS Secretariat, based in Skopje, is responsible for the overall coordination and the implementation of the activities.\r\n\r\nNALAS was created in 2001 following the first Forum of Cities and Regions of South-East Europe (Skopje, November 2000), organised by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The Network was established under the auspices of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe (Working Table 1) and the Council of Europe. During the first years, NALAS functioned as an informal organisation with regular meetings, seminars and training programmes. In July 2005 NALAS became an officially registered association with its seat in Strasbourg. The NALAS Secretariat was established in March 2007.\r\n\r\nNALAS promotes the process of decentralisation in cooperation with central governments and international organisations, considering local self-government as a key issue in the current process of transition affecting the various countries in South-East Europe. NALAS builds partnerships in order to contribute to the reconciliation and stabilisation process in the region and henceforth contributes to the process of the European integration of the whole region.\r\n\r\nNALAS initiates and carries out regional initiatives for its members and helps the associations to become viable representatives of local authorities vis-а-vis central government. NALAS aims to provide services to local governments for the benefit of the citizens in the region and wishes to develop itself as the knowledge centre for local government development in South-East Europe, recognised among all relevant stakeholders.",

During the period between 1990-1996 when there was no overall law on local government, ZELS was very active on behalf of the municipalities. The Association produced and disseminated model ordinances for its members. It also provided a forum to debate these various models as well as participated in drafting the new local government law. Under the present governing charter membership for the municipalities is obligatory. \r\n\r\nAccording to the Association’s statute adopted in October, 2004, the overall mission of ZELS is to advance the principles of local governance through the following activities: \r\n• Promoting and encouraging mutual cooperation and information sharing among its members\r\n• Serving as a lobby group and acting as an advisory body to the central government in the arena of local government; \r\n• Establishing relations with national and international associations of local authorities; \r\n• Promoting continuous and constructive cooperation between the local governments and the state authorities; and \r\n• Organizing training and conference opportunities to its members. \r\n",

The office of Plan International in Switzerland first opened its doors in Zurich in 2006.\r\n\r\nPlan seeks to involve children in all stages of its projects, from planning through implementation. We believe it is essential for the sustainable success of a project to listen to children, give them the opportunity to freely express their opinion and to involve them in all processes. In addition to the projects on site, we are also committed to making sure the rights and interests of children are realised at an international policy level.\r\n\r\nWe focus on supporting girls because they often suffer the most from poverty and its consequences. The Global Fund’s model is based on the concepts of country ownership and performance-based funding, which means that people in countries implement their own programs based on their priorities and the Global Fund provides financing on the condition that verifiable results are achieved.\r\nSince its creation in 2002, the Global Fund has become the main financier of programs to fight AIDS, TB and malaria, with approved funding of US$ 22.9 billion for more than 1,000 programs in 151 countries. To date, programs supported by the Global Fund have provided AIDS treatment for 3.6 million people, anti-tuberculosis treatment for 9.3 million people and 270 million insecticide-treated nets for the prevention of malaria. The Global Fund works in close collaboration with other bilateral and multilateral organizations to supplement existing efforts in dealing with the three diseases.\r\nVision: A world free from the burden of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria\r\nMission: Investing the world’s money to save lives\r\n",

"description": "What is a Grand Challenge?\r\n\r\nA grand challenge is a specific critical barrier that, if removed, would help solve an important health problem in the developing world, with a high likelihood of global impact through widespread implementation.\r\n\r\nThe first grand challenge was introduced over a century ago in Germany, when Dr. David Hilbert issued 23 challenges in mathematics. By doing so, he inspired a generation of mathematicians. His efforts were successful: nearly all of his challenges have been solved. Grand Challenges Canada will bring the same focus and energy to defining and addressing global health issues.\r\n\r\nGrand Challenges Canada works closely with its Scientific Advisory Board, Board of Directors, and key experts and decision-makers in the area of global health to identify and select Grand Challenges. Grand Challenges Canada’s Board of Directors approves all Grand Challenge topics.",

This is made possible because all the administration work is carried out entirely by unpaid volunteers. The patron of Rainbows4children is the renowned BBC journalist, Michael Buerk.\nOur charter is to:\n1. Help young people in Ethiopia to have better lives, with a primary focus on education.\n2. Be organised in a fully transparent way, with full accountability to our donors. 100% of all money raised will be spent on children.\n3. Provide feedback to donors on all projects.\n4. Look for sustainable projects, which eventually can be maintained and funded by the local community.\n5. Select projects, which are catalytic in nature. Relatively small amounts of money can provide training, which enables local people to help each other.\n6. Provide assistance regardless of gender, politics or religion.",

"description": "The Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) is a secular body that helps the major religions of the world to develop their own environmental programmes, based on their own core teachings, beliefs and practices. \r\n\r\nWe help the religions link with key environmental organisations – creating powerful alliances between faith communities and conservation groups.\r\n\r\nMore and more secular agencies now recognise the importance of working with religions, and the significant work of faith groups on environmental issues is growing rapidly.\r\n\r\nCurrent programmes range from assisting Christian, Muslim and Hindu groups in sub-Saharan Africa to develop long-term environmental action plans; helping the faiths make their sacred places more sustainable through the world's first Green Pilgrimage Network; working with Daoists and Buddhists in Asia (particularly China) to make their teachings on protecting nature more relevant to today's generations; and harnessing the faiths’ authority to end the illegal wildlife trade.\r\n\r\nARC was founded in 1995 by HRH Prince Philip. We now work with 11 major faiths through the key traditions within each faith. We are not funded by any faith group.\r\n\r\nWhy work with the religions?\r\n\r\n- The faiths are the largest sector of civil society; 85% of the world’s people describe themselves as belonging to a faith.\r\n- The faiths own 7-8% of the habitable land surface of the planet, including 5% of forests worldwide. They also have influence over 15% of forests considered sacred.\r\n- They are involved in more than half of schools worldwide.\r\n- They are among the largest investment blocks on the global stock market.\r\n- They produce more newspapers than the whole of the European Union.\r\n- More important, they are trusted as a source – often the leading source – of wisdom, information and authority in many parts of the world.",

"description": "The Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust (CPAT) is an independent charitable trust which was established in 1975. Its objective is ‘to advance the education of the public in archaeology’, and this is achieved through three interconnected strands of activity.\r\n\r\nThe Historic Environment Management team maintain the regional Historic Environment Record (HER); provide Planning Services for local authorities, developers and other bodies; and undertake Heritage Management work for Welsh Government, local authorities, landowners, developers and others. \r\n\r\nThe Education and Outreach service provides a wide variety of public engagement, participation and social inclusion opportunities for a range of groups and individuals across the Clwyd-Powys region. This includes events and activities for the general public, as well as work targeted specifically at improving social outcomes and economic aspirations.\r\n\r\nThe Investigation and Research team are responsible for the delivery of archaeological projects funded by private- and public-sector bodies, including Welsh Government. This work enhances the knowledge base which supports Cadw decision-making, enables sustainable development across our region, and delivers training and educational outcomes for professionals, non-professionals and the public.\r\n\r\nThe Administration department maintains a strict control on expenditure, and ensures that the operations of the Trust are conducted in an efficient manner. Governance of the Trust is through a Board of Trustees, which normally meets four times per year. Other activities of the Trust are advised by an Ethics Committee, an Investment Committee, and the Board of Directors of the CPAT HER Charitable Trust. CPAT submits publicly-accessible annual accounts to the Charities Commission, and files returns to Companies House. CPAT is a Registered Organisation with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.\r\n",
