The foundation was established in 1949 and is based in the Netherlands. Our income is derived from the sale of Royal Packaging Industries Van Leer N.V., bequeathed to the foundation by Dutch industrialist and philanthropist Bernard van Leer (1883 to 1958, pictured). (More about our history and income).\r\n\r\nOur mission is to improve opportunities for children up to age 8 who are growing up in socially and economically difficult circumstances. We see this both as a valuable end in itself and as a long-term means to promoting more cohesive, considerate and creative societies with equal opportunities and rights for all. \r\n\r\nOur grantmaking works primarily through supporting programmes implemented by local partners in selected countries. Our partners include public, private and community-based organisations. Working through partnerships is intended to build local capacity, promote innovation and flexibility, and help to ensure that the work we fund is culturally and contextually appropriate.\r\n\r\nWe also aim to leverage our impact by working with influential allies to advocate for young children. Together with local organisations in developing countries, Hivos strives for a world in which all citizens – both men and women – have equal access to resources and opportunities for development.\r\nHivos is a Dutch non-governmental organisation guided by humanist values. A number of its core values are human dignity and self determination, an aversion to dogmas and totalitarian regimes, and a sense of mutual solidarity. The organisation is committed to poor and marginalised peoples in Africa, Asia and Latin America. It strives for the long-term improvement of their circumstances and for the empowerment of women in particular.\r\n\r\nThe work of Hivos aims at structurally alleviating poverty, with an emphasis on civil society building and on sustainable economic development. The efforts of Hivos are focused on nine themes: financial services and business development; sustainable production; human rights and democratisation; HIV/AIDS; gender, women and development; art and culture; ICT & media; advocacy and communication; and the knowledge programme. You can read more about each one of these themes on this website.\r\n\r\nJoining forces and pooling resources is crucial to achieve the objectives of Hivos. Hivos supports over 800 partner organisations in more than 30 countries through financial means and institutional support as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience. In addition, Hivos works together with a number of organisations, companies and governments in the Netherlands and Europe, and it belongs to various national and international networks. Hivos also conducts advocacy activities itself in the Netherlands, throughout Europe and worldwide.\r\n\r\nHivos is a non-governmental organisation with a societal goal which plays a public role. Hivos is one of the four largest organisations in the ‘co-financing system’ of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Dutch general public, the Dutch government, other sponsors, partners and partner organisations in developing countries are the most important stakeholders.\r\n\r\nHivos is ISO certified; it has the CBF quality mark and is one of the beneficiaries of the Dutch National Postcode Lottery.", "notes": "Duplicate 1398 deleted", "can_create_projects": true, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": true, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 280, "content_owner": 268, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 3198, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 5064, "latitude": 52.083536, "longitude": 4.302558, "city": "Den Haag", "state": "Zuid-Holland", "address_1": "Kortenaerkade 11", "address_2": "", "postcode": "2518AX", "iati_country": "NL", "country": 3, "location_target": 3198 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/ef/ad/efad9355585589584321e30c7ef29a23.jpg", "latitude": "52.083536", "longitude": "4.302558", "city": "Den Haag", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2016-01-18T14:38:07.966768+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2016-01-18T14:38:08.061890+01:00", "name": "UNESCO Netherlands", "long_name": "Netherlands National Commission for UNESCO", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.unesco.nl/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+31 (0)70 4 260 263", "mobile": "", "fax": "+31 (0)70 4 260 359", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "info@unesco.nl", "description": "The Netherlands National Commission for UNESCO was established in 1947. This independence makes it possible to pursue an efficient and stimulating policy in the fields of education and research, and to take advantage of new developments. The faculty is located in the Reuvens Building on the Reuvensplaats.\r\n\r\nThe ambition of the faculty is to develop into a prominent archaeological research and training centre at a European level. In European terms, the faculty is an averagely-sized institute, with a wide range of specializations and several specialist (laboratory) facilities. Leiden can pride itself on a long archaeological tradition, going back to Professor Reuvens at the beginning of the 19th century.\r\n\r\nApart from the traditionally strong Prehistory of Northwestern Europe and Classical Archaeology, Leiden offers (as the only university in the Netherlands) a specialization in the Palaeolithic, and in the archaeology of the civilizations of the Near East, Asia, and the Americas, as well as a number of archaeological sciences, such as pollen analysis, archaeozoology, computer applications, ceramology, and microwear analysis.\r\n\r\nThe variety of non-western language and culture studies within the Faculty of Arts (CNWS), and the presence in Leiden of the National Museums of Ethnology and Antiquities, as well as Naturalis, are also enhancing factors.\r\n\r\nA clearly social responsibility of archaeology is the care of the material heritage of past cultures. International treaties (for instance Valetta) state that archaeological investigations should be carried out prior to large building projects. The faculty is active in this field via a commercial company. Hence, students get quickly involved in the practical side (traineeships) of archaeology, with attention to the managerial side of archaeological work. In addition, the faculty has agreements of cooperation with local archaeological services in the surroundings (Leiden, The Hague, Delft).\r\n\r\nAt present, the faculty has a strong market position in the Netherlands. In the last few years, the faculty has been able to welcome more than 80 new students annually. At present, the total number of students amounts to about 350.\r\n", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 352, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 2898, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 4834, "latitude": 17.635464, "longitude": -63.232676, "city": "Windward Side", "state": "", "address_1": "", "address_2": "", "postcode": "0000", "iati_country": "NL", "country": 3, "location_target": 2898 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/50/f3/50f30e621503c85eeb8b859754b889a5.jpg", "latitude": "17.635464", "longitude": "-63.232676", "city": "Windward Side", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2015-06-17T14:38:41.300077+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-06-17T14:38:41.342029+02:00", "name": "SABARC", "long_name": "Saba Archaeological Center", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "https://www.facebook.com/sabarchaeology/info", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+31 (0)71 527 6574", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Ryan Espersen ", "contact_email": "sabarchaeology@gmail.com", "description": "The Saba Archaeological Center strives to preserve Saba’s rich cultural heritage.
