"description": "Vision\r\nBy 2014, Aguayuda will empower 20,000 people in poor rural communities with the tools and knowledge to improve their quality of life.\r\n\r\nMission\r\nImprove life and health in poor rural communities through clean water and education.\r\n\r\nAguayuda is proud to report that since our inception in 2006, we have installed and repaired windmills, implemented pipelines, installed rain harvesting systems, repaired water storage tanks, built laundry washing stations, maintained a water truck sponsorship program and created four educational manuals on essential health topics. These accomplishments have provided 4,300 people access to clean water on a daily basis. As additional positive results of Aguayuda’s efforts, a local community built nineteen new homes and one of Aguayuda’s water committee members established a non-profit organization that installs, repairs and maintains windmills. Lastly, Aguayuda has non-profit organizations supporting Aguayuda’s mission in Germany and in Colombia.\r\n\r\nThrough these valuable experiences, Aguayuda has developed sustainable and practical solutions. Thanks to the hard work and continued generous support from a diverse group of people and organizations worldwide, Aguayuda continues to improve the health and lives of impoverished people worldwide.",

"description": "The BARKA Foundation is a UN-affiliated NGO established in January, 2006. Its mission is to serve as a catalyst for achieving the Millennium Development Goals in Burkina Faso , considered to be among the poorest countries in the world. BARKA is spearheading the BARKA Burkina Consortium, an international collaborative effort to uncover a new approach toward poverty eradication. Its methodology is community-led, grassroots and combines indigenous and modern technologies to develop a set of best practices in areas of clean water accessibility, sanitation, irrigation, sustainable agriculture, women's empowerment, education, and healthcare.\r\n\r\nBARKA’s work is about co-creating a culture of peace. One concrete example is through building bridges between communities in the US and villages in Burkina by connecting schools, youth groups, women's associations, faith-based organizations, businesses, artists and civic leaders in order for our gifts to be shared with each other.\r\n",

We are also a registered non-governmental organization in Nicaragua where our two person staff carries out a program of offering assistance in design, technical problems and marketing for artisans working in clay, primarily small groups of women living in rural areas.\r\n\r\nPotters for Peace also works worldwide with local partners to set up production facilities for low-cost, low-tech, highly effective ceramic water filters. The filter is based on a ten liter ceramic bucket design originally developed in Guatemala by Fernando Mazariegos. \r\n\r\nPotters for Peace has developed a semi-mechanized technology transfer package which enables production of ceramic filters to be underway almost anywhere in the world after a one month training and set-up session. \r\nPFP does not itself make or sell ceramic filters nor do we have any financial interest in the facilities we set up.",

"description": "Wasrag – the Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group – was mandated by Rotary International in 2007 to: provide information, support and encouragement to 1.2 million Rotarians, in over 33,000 Rotary Clubs and 540 districts to take active roles in projects/programs to develop safe water and sanitation as a means of promoting health and alleviating hunger.”\r\n\r\nRotary clubs around the world needed support for their water and sanitation projects. They needed access to the most appropriate technologies, to outside funding and to expertise, none of which were available within the traditional Rotary structure.\r\n\r\nMost important, it became apparent to Rotarians and to potential funding partners that the original Rotary model - many small projects with limited community involvement or empowerment - would not have the impact many Rotarians were seeking. Nor could the supply-driven focus of many clubs achieve any significant degree of sustainability.\r\n\r\nTo fulfill this mandate Wasrag’s goals are to:\r\n\r\n- Create awareness among Rotarians of the importance of conservation and sustainability and of local and global water issues;\r\n- Raise awareness of the need for, and benefits of, safe water and sanitation;\r\n- Develop a compendium of best practices to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness;\r\n- Distribute information on appropriate technologies for supplying, conserving and purifying water and for sanitation;\r\n- Build and encourage mutually beneficial relationships with other organizations, corporations, agencies and NGOs sharing common water and sanitation related goals;\r\n- Identify alternative sources of financing to complement The Rotary Foundation e.g. private foundations, corporations, government agencies;\r\n- Assist in identifying and formulating programs and projects that will promote sustainability; Implement mechanisms to determine the effectiveness of projects;\r\n- Create a network of experts accessible to Rotarians and Rotary clubs;\r\n- Provide training and education on water/sanitation technologies and issues;\r\n- Facilitate the exchange of information via a web-based forum a forum;\r\n- Establish a bibliography of relevant materials, references etc.;\r\n- Give information on relevant conferences;\r\n- Act as advocates on water issues;\r\n- Support Rotary clubs seeking financial and/or technical assistance;\r\n- Foster “Centers of Excellence” on water/sanitation;\r\n- Operate a web-site and produce regular newsletters or bulletins;\r\n- Implement procedures to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness;\r\n\r\nWasrag was authorized by Rotary International to carry out this mission in February 2004 and was officially launched on World Water Day, March 22nd, 2007 at the National Press Club in New York. Since then it has facilitated well over 200 projects—helping clubs find partners, helping to ensure sustainability, stressing the importance of a needs-driven approach, developing best practices, encouraging a holistic, integrated approach in which water is not the end in itself but is rather the means to a better life and livelihood in the community.\r\n\r\nMost importantly it links water and sanitation to personal hygiene, better health, empowering the community (especially women), irrigation and agriculture, education and literacy and, ultimately, child mortality. Through service learning projects, U.S. schools raise funds necessary to complete water projects, thereby bringing water to their partner schools. These funds are matched dollar for dollar, magnifying the good done with every contribution.\r\n\r\nAnother outcome, as important as water funding to our mission, is for youth in U.S. schools to learn about and become invested in the global community, and to become activists for positive change.\r\n\r\nThe sustainability of these and other service projects depends on the next generation’s involvement. We need to provide opportunities for students to make a difference, and H2O for Life exists to do just that.\r\n\r\nGlobal projects are identified and facilitated through cooperating Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s). To date, Save the Children, Water Centric, Student Movement for Real Change, El Porvenir, and Catholic Relief Service have partnered with H20 for Life and match funds raised by individual schools.\r\n\r\nUnited States schools select a project and then work during the school year to reach their fundraising goals. During the year, teachers and students may choose to communicate with students in the project community via letters or pictures.\r\n\r\nIf you’re a U.S. teacher, school administrator, or engaged parent and think students in your community might be able to help, learn how to Partner With a School.",

"description": "Catholic Relief Services was founded in 1943 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States to serve World War II survivors in Europe. Since then, they have expanded in size to reach more than 80 million people in more than 100 countries on five continents. Their mission is to assist impoverished and disadvantaged people overseas, working in the spirit of Catholic Social Teaching to promote the sacredness of human life and the dignity of the human person. Although their mission is rooted in the Catholic faith, their operations serve people based solely on need, regardless of their race, religion or ethnicity. Within the United States, CRS engages Catholics to live their faith in solidarity with the poor and suffering of the world. CRS maintains strict standards of efficiency, accountability and transparency. Last year, more than 94 percent of revenues we spent went directly to programs that benefit the poor overseas.",

World Vision serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.\r\n\r\nWorld Vision works in impoverished, mostly rural areas to provide potable water, improved sanitation, and hygiene education (WASH) so that waterborne illness decreases, health improves, and the burden on women and children is lessened by reducing the distance to water sources. World Vision’s programs include the voices of the poorest members of the community. We work with community leaders to solicit the participation of members of both genders, people of varying ages (from children through the elderly), and those with disabilities and illnesses.\r\n\r\nOver the past 27 years, World Vision has provided 12 million people with the many benefits of clean water. We are now dramatically scaling up our WASH programs, with the goal of reaching 1 million beneficiaries per year. As one of the leading WASH nongovernmental organizations globally in both funding and footprint, World Vision invests about $90 million per year to operate WASH programs in 57 countries.",

"description": "Townhouse was established in downtown Cairo in 1998 as an independent, non-profit art space with a goal of making contemporary art and culture accessible to all without compromising creative practice. Townhouse supports artistic work in a wide range of media through exhibitions, residencies for artists, curators and writers, educational initiatives and outreach programs.\r\n\r\nBy establishing local and international relationships, as well as diversifying both the practitioners and audiences of contemporary art, Townhouse aims to support and expand the knowledge, appreciation and practice of contemporary arts in Egypt and the region. \r\n\r\nTownhouse is located in downtown Cairo's bustling car mechanic's district, off of Tahrir Square. The exhibitions program features over 12 exhibitions a year, hosted in the 650-square-meter Factory Space and the First Floor Gallery in the main building. Exhibitions feature the work of young emerging artists alongside those who are internationally recognized. Many local artists with early shows at Townhouse have gone on to exhibit worldwide.\r\n\r\nTownhouse has initiated numerous large-scale events, beginning with the city-wide Nitaq Festival in 2000. PhotoCairo, the first festival in Egypt exclusively dedicated to photography and video, was launched in 2002.\r\n\r\nSince its inception, Townhouse has worked to make the arts accessible to different groups of society, whilst using them as a powerful medium for integration and understanding. Our Outreach Program offers a number of arts workshops for adults and children, with participants coming from all over Cairo, including those with special needs and from marginalized communities.\r\n\r\nTownhouse collaborates with institutions and arts professionals both regionally and internationally to create exhibitions, share resources, and facilitate artist exchanges.",
