"description": "ARRAKIS is a network organisation with professional staff, working in multiple regions or countries on water and sanitation projects. ARRAKIS is presently legally registered as a company. The company started in 1990 with the name of RED, Renewable Energy Development . ARRAKIS concentrates on sustainable rural development. Its focus is on capacity building of human resources and institutional development, as well as development and transfer of Affordable Technologies in the field of renewable energy and safe water supply in rural areas of developing countries\r\n\r\nMission statement: \r\nARRAKIS overall mission is to improve the quality of life of rural populations in countries where extreme poverty occurs.\r\n\r\nDevelopment Approach:\r\nARRAKIS is developing innovative projects in water & energy to demonstrate effective and sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty. Therewith ARRAKIS supports the Millennium Development Goals, more specifically Goals 1 and 7. \r\nThough Affordable Technology is important, ARRAKIS is convinced of the key role of the human factor for sustainable development. Starting point and prerequisite is the genuine participation of people. The best way to achieve this is by capacity building, and making knowledge accessible to people. An (anonymous) Chinese poet once expressed this as follows:\r\nIf you want to plan 1 year ahead, sow a seed\r\nIf you want to plan 10 years ahead, plant a tree\r\nIf you want to plan 100 years ahead, educate the people\r\n\r\nARRAKIS is working with a number of professional associates, with long records of work in areas of developing work. \r\n\r\n\r\nARRAKIS has a substantial track record of successful water and sanitation projects. ARRAKIS has been responsible for a number of projects, of which the most typical one is a project in Mozambique, where Affordable Technologies were introduced, like hand rope pumps, manual drilling, low cost irrigations systems and siphon water filters. Since last year ARRAKIS got also involved in low cost sanitation in Mozambique. Some of the major projects are mentioned at the website ( projects ) but there are a number of other projects not mentioned:\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling and wind rope pumps India, counterpart Aureka, for Practica, sponsored by Aqua for All;\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling in Zambia, counterpart DAPP Zambia, paid by EU\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling in Mozambique, paid by GAIA movement and EU\r\n• Training in lining out wells, production of hand rope pumps in Mozambique, counterpart ADPP, project for FACT foundation, sponsored by DOEN, HIVOS and Solidaridad see (Jatropha Project Moz)\r\n\r\n\r\nARRAKIS is involved in a number of networks and its associates have a large number of contacts in the “water world”. ARRAKIS is member of AT@work, has very close relations with Connect International Foundation, FACT foundation, GAIA Movement, Aqua for All, etc.",

"description": "The aims of GNP+ are to improve the quality of life, through equitable and universal access to services, for all PLHIV. As the global network of people living with HIV, GNP+’s core strategy is to operationalise the GIPA principle at all levels of the global response through involving PLHIV in all aspects of the HIV response and related services. Since the founding of the organisation, GNP+’s core activities have centred on advocacy, information and knowledge management, and network and community strengthening. Advocacy has been the traditional focus of GNP+ and has included a range of strategies such as activism; campaign and \r\npolicy dialogue; programmes; and services. \r\nIn order to improve the advocacy efforts taken, GNP+ has increasingly invested its time and resources into action research and knowledge management to effectively communicate the information and evidence originating from said research. \r\nGNP+, as a network of networks, undertakes its daily work aided by management support from an international Secretariat and strategic guidance and oversight from the international Board. Through this network of networks structure, GNP+ has supported PLHIV to organise themselves to improve their lives and articulate their needs from the community level through international policy forums. GNP+ currently consists of six regional, autonomous PLHIV networks which serve as regional hubs for national and local networks. GNP+ also provides a platform for new and emerging PLHIV networks among specific populations and constituencies and through social media. The Y+ Programme for young PLHIV and the Positive Community, GNP+’s virtual community, are two such examples of key emerging networks and indicate GNP+’s ommitment \r\nto incorporate the many ways that PLHIV network with one another, be it based on geography and/or other associations.",

Freedom, mutual respect and equality between partners are important factors in this. The subject of sex and sexuality must be freed from discrimination, stigmatism and prejudice. Being able to make your own choices about your life and your body is a universal human right!\r\n\r\nCHOICE is run by an enthusiastic and ambitious team of young professionals, all aged between 16 and 28. Our youth advocates dedicate their time, energy and expertise on a voluntary basis, supported by a small team of office staff and our Board. ",

"description": "Founded in the Netherlands in 1965, we have built a long-term, local presence in many of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our global team of local and international advisors work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development. \r\n\r\nOur mission is to make a lasting difference in the lives of millions of people living in poverty. \r\n\r\nBy sharing our specialist expertise in Agriculture, Energy and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, we contribute to solving some of the leading problems facing the world today – helping to find local solutions to global challenges and sowing the seeds of lasting change. We recognise that sustained poverty reduction requires people living in poverty to both contribute to and benefit from growth while having access to quality basic services. With this in mind, our work focuses on enabling the four factors we have learnt are essential for successful development: inclusive development, systemic change, local ownership, and contextualised solutions.\r\n\r\nNext to our many country offices in Asia, Africa and Latin America, we also have an affiliate office in Washington D.C. SNV USA’s primary goal is to connect North American partners and donors to a global network of technical advisors implementing innovative solutions to alleviate poverty through sustainable and locally-led development.",

"description": "Humanitarian aid differs from the other types of aid that Belgium provides to developing countries. It has a clearly defined mandate: to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity.\r\n\r\nBelgium's humanitarian aid strategy results from an inspired approach to humanitarian law, principles and good practice for humanitarian aid (\"Good Humanitarian Donorship\") and the European Union (EU) Consensus on humanitarian aid. Belgian humanitarian aid is therefore in line with the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. The principle of humanity involves taking initiatives to combat human suffering, regardless of the region involved, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable individuals. The dignity of all victims must be respected and protected. The principle of impartiality means that humanitarian aid can only be provided in accordance with requirements, with no discrimination between or within the ethnic groups affected. Neutrality means that no party involved in armed or unarmed conflict may receive preferential treatment in the context of humanitarian aid. Independence means that the bodies involved in humanitarian aid are not bound by any other political decisions and actions taken by the donors in the field.\r\n\r\nBelgium's humanitarian efforts primarily involve support for international and civil partner organisations with proven expertise and ability to achieve; they must also be prepared to demonstrate transparency in their reports. In concrete terms, we support international and civil partner organisations, whilst helping to systematically strengthen the collective international avenues for humanitarian intervention.",

"description": "Agence Française de Développement is the operator for France’s bilateral development finance mechanism. It is a public industrial and commercial institution with the status of specialized financial institution. Its action is in line with the policy set out in France’s Framework Document for Development Cooperation. This document was approved at the end of 2010 and in 2011 was translated into a three-year contract specifying objectives and resources between the French Government and AFD.\r\n\r\n--\r\n\r\nL’Agence Française de Développement (AFD) est un Etablissement Public à caractère Industriel et\r\nCommercial relevant de la loi bancaire en tant qu’établissement financier spécialisé.
