Although very different in character all organisations share in the task of mainstreaming HIV/AIDS and its related issues in their respective communities. Whilst doing so they make many contributions in kind such as provision of free venues, no rent for office space, totally voluntary educational activities (sessions, theatre performances, club work etc), help for sick and needy people, greatly reduced food expenses and sometimes even payment for own food. TI-Kenya is one of the autonomous chapters of the global Transparency International movement that are all bound by a common vision of a corruption-free world. The global movement provides a platform for sharing knowledge and experience, developing strategies to respond to regionally distinct patterns of corruption and initiating advocacy campaigns at both the regional and sub-regional level. The vision of TI Kenya is that of a transparent, accountable and corruption-free Kenya and the mission is to transform the society and institutions by supporting the development of high integrity leadership in all sectors and at all levels. TI-Kenya’s key goals are: Institutions that are efficient and deliver quality services; and, a society that upholds and promotes integrity.\r\n\r\nThe strategic objectives are:\r\n•\tTo strengthen governance in targeted institutions – TI-Kenya believes that strengthening governance in public institutions will significantly enhance their efficiency and ensure they deliver quality services to the public. It is thus targeting public institutions in the water, education, health, humanitarian aid, climate finance governance, the police and extractive sectors. \r\n•\tTo develop an effective legislative and policy environment - TI-Kenya supports the development of quality laws (in respect to integrity, transparency and accountability) and monitors their implementation.\r\n•\tTo strengthen the capacity of the public to recognize and fight corruption - TI-Kenya works towards strengthening the capacity of the public to recognize corrupt practices and take action against such practices. TI-Kenya pays special focus on the youth as a key pillar in enhancing integrity and fighting corruption.\r\n\r\nTI-Kenya’s key approaches include research, partnerships development, capacity building and civic engagement. \r\nThrough the Advocacy and Legal Advisory Centres (ALACs) in Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa and Nairobi, interventions in the education sector in Kisumu, Kwale and Trans Nzoia, and the Humanitarian Aid Integrity Programme implemented in Turkana, Wajir and West Pokot, TI-Kenya has spread its work to the masses, engaging more Kenyans in the fight against corruption and constructively engaged county governments. TI-Kenya has contributed towards the development of key laws necessitated by the Constitution, particularly in regard to integrity provisions. The organization developed amendments to the Leadership and Integrity law, and drafted the Whistleblower Protection Bill. TI-Kenya in addition contributed amendments to the Climate Change Bill, Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Bill, 2014 and the Health Bill among others. TI-Kenya drafted the model county Access to Information and Public Participation bills and engaged four counties in the adoption of these bills. Civic engagement is central in TI-Kenya’s strategy. Through the ALACs, TI-Kenya is empowering Kenyans to actively participate in anti-corruption efforts while providing a vehicle through which they can report and pursue corruption-related complaints, with over 5,000 people given legal advice in the last year. TI-Kenya has to date initiated the formation of 102 integrity clubs to engage students in ethical and integrity learning. \r\n", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": true, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 1948, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 1980, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 1804, "latitude": -1.274665, "longitude": 36.829065, "city": "Nairobi", "state": "Ngara", "address_1": "", "address_2": "", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "KE", "country": 27, "location_target": 1980 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/c0/89/c0893368f522817653401255a55e3cc2.jpg", "latitude": "-1.274665", "longitude": "36.829065", "city": "Nairobi", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2014-03-03T14:53:13+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-09-11T12:29:50.656583+02:00", "name": "Sarakasi Trust", "long_name": "Sarakasi Trust", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://sarakasi.org/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+254 (0) 20 2694026", "mobile": "+254 (0) 722814133", "fax": "", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "info@sarakasi.co.ke", "description": "Sarakasi Trust responds to the need for the further development and promotion of culture, performing arts and entertainment in East-Africa focusing on acrobatics, dance and music. It was founded as a Farm School in 1939 by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, a British national who settled in Kenya in the 1920s. In 1950, the School was upgraded to an Agricultural College offering diploma programmes. The Egerton Agricultural College Ordinance was enacted in 1955. In 1979, the Government of Kenya and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded a major expansion of the institution. In 1986, Egerton Agricultural College was gazetted as a constituent college of the University of Nairobi. The following year, 1987, marked the establishment of Egerton University through an Act of Parliament.\r\n\r\nEgerton University has three (3) Campuses and one Campus College. Through sports CREATA has been running two main programs namely; Sports for Development Program, Peace and Governance Program. This year, CREATA is rolling out Football for WASH (F4WASH) program in 60 primary schools in Migori County – a four year program funded by KNVB and UNICEF. \r\n\r\nSports for Development program started as voluntary process where communities were mobilized though football to address the issues of education in Uriri in Migori County. Through the junior sports clubs created, parents came together to form savings associations. Through this savings scheme parents are able to save money for thier children’s school fees, as the organisation boosts their savings through matching funds. Currently we have turnover of about USD 100 per month. In the first year of operating this fund (2012) CREATA was able to fully sponsor 3 children in high school. We are however hoping that this turnover is going to increase and pay for more students. CREATA has establishing 50 sports clubs and about 5 active parents associations. \r\n\r\nIn our Peace and Governance program, CREATA with the funding of IFP Kenya has recently carried out a baseline survey of the knowledge gaps in the communities about the new constitutions and is currently rolling out community training, awareness and forums on the contents of the new constitution. In this project, coaches and sports clubs are the main ambassadors of the message, principles and spirit of the new constitution. \r\n\r\nVision: \r\nCREATA envisages a peaceful, transformed society and a just world where the integrity of creation and human dignity are the pillars for sustainable development. \r\n\r\nMission:\r\nOur aim is to enhance peace, education, human solidarity using sports as a catalyst for community transformation and development. Specifically, we work on four program areas: Agribusiness, Natural Resource Management (NRM), Nature Based Enterprises (NBE) and Climatic Change: All these programs are interlinked and they influence one another. \r\n\r\nThe innovativeness of HSHC programs is demonstrated by being the first organization in Kenya to have produced biodiesel commercially from natural seeds. We have also managed to commercialize a forest based essential oil (cape chestnut) using a unique business model that is meant to maximize local returns and motivate people to conserve the forest. The Mission of the organization is “To champion, expand and actualize women’s rights”. CREAW has created a niche in championing women rights in Kenya, through the use of bold, innovative and holistic interventions for the realization of women’s rights. \r\n\r\nIn the theory of change, CREAW believes that social transformation can happen through a shifting of social norms and practices that curtail the realization of women’s rights. This is done through legislative and policy advocacy, activism, public awareness, public interest litigation and innovative research. The desired change should be evident in attitudes, knowledge, skills, levels of awareness, behavior and health at personal, family, communal and societal levels. \r\n\r\nIn CREAW’s views, change requires a catalyst. As that catalyst, CREAW sees its role as lying in: Civic engagement, mentorship, dismantling patriarchy, seeking accountability at all levels, awareness raising, working through smart networks and movement building, broadening and deepening knowledge, inclusiveness and constant innovation. CREAW’s values are based on one fundamental principle of “Love’ actualized through it’s values:- Integrity, Professionalism, Passion, Innovativeness and Synergy. FIT is part of a network of organizations initiated by ILO in six African Countries in East Central and West Africa in the early 90s. FIT has identified personnel to be a key resource in development and therefore places Capacity Building at the core of its activities.\r\n\r\nFIT believes that effective services that blend well with the objectives of development agencies, governments and those of target beneficiaries will increase growth and generate employment. Our strategy for sustainable livelihoods is to improve the supply of sustainable development services and skills to communities and SMEs through capacity building and access to markets and or services.\r\n\r\nIn Kenya and most countries in Sub Saharan Africa 80% of the population reside in rural areas with approximately 90% deriving their livelihoods from agriculture and agriculture related activities. The highest poverty levels are also to be found in the rural areas. FIT has therefore concentrated on promoting initiatives in the rural areas aimed at promoting agriculture as a business.\r\n\r\nFIT therefore believes that targeting the poorest people to be able to participate in their own development will spur sustainable poverty alleviation across board. Hence FIT Programmes have focused on promoting initiatives that are cost effective and can be implemented by the people themselves.\r\n\r\nFIT Resources offers exceptional collective knowledge and experience in innovative approaches to agricultural & enterprise development, intervention design, implementation and evaluation, management, and diversification of income resources among the rural poor. Our programmes have helped many entrepreneurs and development organizations to restructure and rationalize and commercialize their activities in order to improve wealth creation leading to improved and sustainable livelihoods.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat we do\r\n\r\nBroadly, FIT promotes SME development through:\r\n\r\n•\tResearch\r\n•\tDesign and implementation of programmes\r\n•\tProject analysis, design and or management \r\n•\tMonitoring and Evaluation of SME projects\r\n•\tCapacity building for institutions who work with SMEs\r\n\r\nMain Focus\r\n\r\nFIT works with and through:\r\n\r\n•\tMedia houses in the development and implementation of commercially viable media programmes that benefit smallholder farmers mainly in rural communities. FIT builds capacities of Media staff and consultants,\r\n•\tDonors, Governments and trade associations that promote smallholder farmers in specific sub-sectors especially honey and the horticultural sub-sectors. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants working for governments and donors and,\r\n•\tFinancial institutions that support micro-entrepreneurs in agribusiness. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants in financial institutions. \r\n\r\n\r\nStandards and Monitoring\r\n\r\nAll FIT projects are subject to continuous monitoring, feedback and regular reviews to ensure that the assignments are completed within prescribed timeframe and emerging issues consistently addressed.\r\n\r\nInstitutional Links\r\n\r\nNetworking is a fundamental component of FIT’s business strategy. FIT was established by ILO as a network of organisations in six East, Central and West Africa. The network provides FIT enormous opportunities experience sharing and support amongst the network members.
