"description": "Concern Worldwide Liberia is an affiliate of Concern Worldwide and supports the Concern network by recruiting staff, supporting program development, creating public awareness of humanitarian issues and financially supporting programs.\r\n\r\nConcern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. \r\n\r\nConcern Worldwide in Liberia—through its work in emergencies and long-term development—has saved countless lives, relieved suffering and provided opportunities for a better standard of living for the people of Liberia. \r\n\r\nConcern Worldwide first started working in Liberia in 1991, in response to Liberia’s civil conflict. Unfortunately due to the severity of the fighting Concern Worldwide was forced to leave in 1992, but returned again in 1996, continuing to support emergency programmes in Liberia throughout the subsequent conflict and to the present day. During the conflict, Concern Worldwide implemented emergency programmes distributing NFIs in IDP Camps, as well as livelihoods and emergency environmental health, focusing on clean water, sanitation and hygienic practices. \r\n\r\nToday, Concern Worldwide is implementing in three counties five-year thematic programme strategies, delivering comprehensive programmes in Grand Bassa, Lofa and Montserrado counties, in the areas of:\r\n\r\nEnvironmental Health (WASH) – focusing on access to safe water and sanitation facilities (e.g. through latrine and water point construction/rehabilitation) and health and hygiene promotion.\r\n\r\nEducation – focusing on primary education, increasing access to and quality of education, as well as protection and governance within the sector.\r\n\r\nLivelihoods – focusing on increasing food security (particularly through increased and diversified agricultural production), income generation activities and adult literacy.\r\n\r\nHIV and AIDS – focusing on providing care, treatment, support, and livelihoods opportunities to people living with and/or affected by HIV and AIDS.\r\n",

"description": "History\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger was founded in 1979 by a group of French intellectuals in response to the emergency in Afghanistan. These included Françoise Giroud, Bernard Henri Lévy, Marek Halter, Alfred Kastler (a Nobel Laureate in physics), Guy Sorman, Jacques Attali, and several other doctors, journalists and writers. While the fight against hunger had previously been an element of more general humanitarian action (the fight against poverty, promoting better health, etc.) they founded an organization that was exclusively dedicated to ending hunger. Action against Hunger is now recognized as one of the leading organizations in the fight against hunger worldwide.\r\n\r\n• 1979 \r\nCreation of Action Against Hunger. The organization forms part of a new generation of independent NGos (non-governmental organisations) that reject silence surrounding injustice and seek to bear witness and report on atrocities, while taking action to end them.\r\n\r\n• 1995 \r\nAction Against Hunger has developed within the framework of an interdependent international network (ACF-IN) and has opened two additional headquarters in Madrid and London to better respond to the needs of populations. \r\n\r\n• 1997 \r\nThe network expanded with the opening of a fourth headquarters in New York.\r\n\r\n• 2005\r\nOpening of a fifth headquarters in Montreal.\r\nOur fight\r\nAction contre la Faim (ACF) was founded by a group of prominent French figures in response to the emergency caused by Afghan refugees fleeing to Pakistan to escape fighting in 1979, with the aim of eradicating hunger in a more global, lasting and effective way worldwide.\r\n \r\nWhile the fight against hunger had previously been integrated into more general humanitarian action (the fight against poverty, promoting better health, etc.), ACF’s founder members created an organization specializing in the problems associated with hunger.\r\n \r\nACF’s mission consists of saving lives via the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, in particular during and following disasters and conflicts. The organization focuses its activities on an integrated approach, taking various aspects into account:\r\n \r\n • Nutrition, health and health care practices\r\n • Food security and livelihoods\r\n • Water, sanitation and hygiene\r\n • Advocacy and awareness-raising\r\n \r\nIn 2009, ACF-International was active in over 40 countries, coming to the aid of around 5 million individuals. By integrating our programs with regional and national systems, ACF is ensuring that short-term actions are becoming long-term solutions.\r\n\r\nACF Principles\r\n\r\nIn all of its activities, ACF abides by the following principles set out in its charter.\r\n\r\nIndependence\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger acts according to its own principles so as to maintain its moral and financial independence. Actions against Hunger’s actions are not defined in terms of domestic or foreign policies nor in the interest of any particular government.\r\n\r\nNeutrality\r\n\r\nA victim is a victim. Action against Hunger maintains a strict political and religious neutrality. Nevertheless, Action against Hunger may denounce human rights violations that it has witnessed as well as obstacles put in the way of its humanitarian action.\r\n\r\nNon discrimination\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger refutes all discrimination based on race, sex, ethnicity, religion, nationality, opinion or social cclass. Free and direct access to victims.Action against Hunger demands free access to victims and direct control of its programs. Action against Hunger uses all means available to achieve these principles and will denounce and act against any obstacle preventing it from doing so. Action against Hunger also verifies the allocation of its resources to ensure that the resources reach those individuals for whom they are destined. Under no circumstances can partners working together with or alongside Action against Hunger become the ultimate beneficiaries of Action against Hunger aid programs.\r\n\r\nProfessionalism\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger bases the conception, realization, management and assessment of its programs on professional standards and its years of experience to maximize its efficiency and the use of resources.\r\n\r\nTransparency\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger is committed to respecting a policy of total transparency to beneficiaries, partners and donors and encourages the availability of information on the allocation and management of its funds. Action against Hunger is also committed to providing guarantees of its good management.",

We believe that water and sanitation are human rights. These essential services are vital for health, education and livelihoods; and form the first, essential step in overcoming poverty. With the right political will, resources and drive \r\nwe believe that our vision is achievable. Yet 4,000 children die every day because they do not have access to safe water or sanitation. In the last 28 years we have reached 13 million people in Africa, Asia and the Pacific \r\nregion through our work with local partner organizations using appropriate and affordable technologies that communities can operate \r\nand maintain.\r\n",

We are able to share best practices across regions and place a strong focus on capacity-building by forming partnerships with academia, civil society organizations, donors, governments, media, private sector, and others. Our work helps to effect the regulatory and structural changes needed for broad water and sanitation sector reform.\r\n \r\nOur challenge is to replicate successful approaches, continue targeted learning efforts, and support reforms that ensure the adoption of sustainable investments in the sector that help people rise from poverty.",

This is to enable the project adequately address the perennial water crisis experienced in most rural communities in Northern Ghana which led to the spread of the guineaworm disease which became endemic in some Districts. \r\n\r\nThe Project focuses on education of beneficiaries on the essence of good Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices to ensure improvement in the health and livelihoods of the people. Not only to improve school attendance by pupils in these communities, but to enhance the economic activity of their parents for improved educational support from the families.\r\n\r\nA lot of emphasis is also placed on the training of local Artisans (community people) in the construction and maintenance of rainwater harvesting tanks to ensure sustainability and spread of the technology. \r\n\r\nThe coverage area of the project is currently within communities in the Northern Region of Ghana. This is mainly because, due to their guinea worm endemic nature in the past, they were prioritized for the intervention to make good drinking water available to the people to check the spread of the disease. \r\nOur vision is to expand our services to the other regions with perenniel water problems in future. \r\n\r\nPresby Water Project joined the Ghana WASH Alliance in 2009 in order to leverage additional funding and technical assistance to meet this dream.\r\n\r\nOver the past 5 years, a total of 24 institutional and 200 household tanks have been constructed by the project in 7 districts of the Northern Region.\r\n\r\nSimilarly, 150 tanks have been constructed in collaboration with local partners such as Christian Children's Fund in Canada (CCFC), Technoserve and NewEnergy among others. \r\n\r\nThe significance of the introduction and promotion of rainwater harvesting in these communities cannot be over emphasised because of the visible impact it has made in the eradication of the disease from the area. \r\n",

"description": "SEND-West Africa is a consolidation of three autonomous national non-governmental organisations: SEND-Ghana, SEND-Liberia and SEND-Sierra Leone with each country programme guided by an independent strategic plan. SEND became operational in Ghana in 1998; Liberia in 2004; and Sierra-Leone in 2007. Informed by the marked differences in the political and economic contexts of these countries, each country programme has separate management and programming strategies to respond effectively to the respective country needs and peculiarities.\r\n\r\nSEND-Ghana is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) established in August 1998 with the maiden name: Social Enterprise Development (SEND) Foundation of West Africa. In 2000, SEND-Ghana started the implementation of its first programme – the Eastern Corridor Livelihood Security Promotion Programme (ECLSPP) – aimed at addressing practical development needs of communities through an integrated approach to service delivery. \r\n\r\nSEND Liberia is the second oldest and largest Program. Efforts to establish it started in 1999 but this initiative was aborted due to the escalation of the civil war at the time. In 2003 the comprehensive Peace Agreement that ended the war was achieved and SEND, like most civil society organizations, in 2004, renewed engagement with Liberia by registering with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs.\r\n\r\nSEND Sierra Leone’s programme aims to alleviate poverty and promote equality between women and men in Kailahun District. Through its projects SEND-Sierra Leone applies a participatory integrated development approach, which promotes gender equality and includes advocacy for the poor.It aims to work to address basic needs, as well as the systemic causes of poverty and injustice.",

Our mission is to promote inclusive development, systemic change, local ownership and contextualized solutions. Our team works with local partners to empower communities, businesses and organizations with the tools, knowledge and networks they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development. \r\n\r\nSNV has earned the respect and trust of the Ghanaian people over the past 22 years of uninterrupted service. SNV Ghana contributes to sustainable poverty reduction as articulated in the Ghana Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy, the national development blueprint, which is in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Since 2012, SNV has focused its activities in three main sectors; agriculture, renewable energy and water, sanitation & hygiene. An added key strength is our extensive local presence on the ground. SNV Ghana currently operates 4 offices located in Accra, Takoradi, Tamale and Wa, which enables us to implement large scale projects in 9 Regions allowing for strong relationships with the communities and resulting in measurable and positive change in the lives of vulnerable rural and urban populations. \r\n\r\nIn Ghana, SNV collaborates with a wide range of partners including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), multinational & export companies, civil society and universities & research institutes. SNV is currently working in 376 communities to improve the health and quality of life for the rural and peri-urban households through enhanced access to improved sanitation and hygiene practices. In addition, SNV works to develop capacity in governance for empowerment, gender equity and social inclusion, and sanitation supply chain development and services as part of our interventions. \r\nOur current interventions in and around WASH benefit a total of 116,890 people directly, and over 2,551,435 people indirectly. SNV’s extensive experience, expertise and networks make us an attractive and trusted partner to major donors such as DGIS, DfID, the World Bank, USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Comic Relief and UNICEF. Our in-house expertise brings significant, relevant and proven experience in the WASH sector around fund management, business development services, market development, financial inclusion and capacity development. \r\n",

The execution of these functions such as provision of socio-economic services requires efficient and effective mobilization and utilization of material, human and financial resources to improve the lives of the residents of the metropolis. Various departments under the Assembly are given specific responsibilities and the Waste Management Department of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is responsible for Environmental Sanitation within the metropolis. The services provided constitute an essential factor in contributing to good health, high productivity and the welfare of the people. ",

"description": "The Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) is a faith-based network organisation of 21 Christian church denominations, involved in the provision of health care and training of health professionals. Established in 1967, the Association currently comprises 58 hospitals, 114 health centres and clinics, and 10 health training institutions. Membership has gone up from 25 in 1967 to 182 in 2012. The network members collectively have a staff strength of approximately 7,300. \r\n\r\nCHAG was initially founded in 1967, as a Voluntary Professional Association and subsequently registered as a Corporate Body in 1968 under the Trustees (Incorporation) Act, 1962 Act 106, the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference and the Christian Council of Ghana being the main stakeholders in the Association. The Ghana Pentecostal Council was later admitted into membership as an Associate Member. \r\n\r\nThe governance structure of CHAG comprises three distinct layers of the Council, the Board and the Secretariat. The Board is composed of nominated representatives of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Pentecostal Council. The Board is tasked to support and monitor the implementation of decisions and programmes by the secretariat that serve the interest of members. The Secretariat is responsible for managing the network and ensuring that the aims and objectives of the association and the needs of members towards contributing to the achievement of national health outcomes are met. \r\n\r\nThe uniqueness of CHAG as an organisation is the independence and autonomy of its members. This is recognised as the strength of the organisation where the diversity of its members is respected and harnessed for human centred, affordable and high quality patient care.\r\n\r\nThe Vision of CHAG is:\r\n“A healthy nation, Christ’s Healing Ministry Fulfilled”\r\n\r\nThe mission of CHAG is: \r\nTo promote the healing ministry of Christ and be a reliable partner in the Health Sector in providing the health needs of the people in Ghana in fulfilment of Christ’s mandate to go and heal the sick.\r\n \r\nThe core values of CHAG are \r\n• Christian identity and witness\r\n• Unity in Diversity\r\n• Respect for the dignity of the person\r\n• Holistic health care\r\n• Creativity and Excellence\r\n• Accountability and Transparency\r\n• Co-operation and partnership\r\n• Option for the poor and the marginalized\r\n\r\nThe objectives of CHAG are:\r\n1. To foster a closer partnership between Church-related health services and the Ministry of Health to promote health care in Ghana.\r\n2. To assist in planning and coordinating the training programmes and other medical work or services of the members of the Association.\r\n3. To assist the members of the Association with respect to the employment of staff, provision of supplies to the hospitals or other medical services maintained or supported or controlled or supervised by any member of the Association.\r\n4. To encourage and assist the members to promote the healing ministry for the benefit and the welfare of the people of Ghana.\r\n5. To implement policies set by the members and do such other things in cooperation with the members of the Association as are conducive to the attainment of the above aims and objectives of the Association or any of them and generally to act for the benefit and welfare of the people living in Ghana.",
