The objective is to assist in improving local knowledge and putting local talent to use by offering cost-efficient IT-solutions to projects in developing countries.\r\n\r\nIn the industrialised world, computers are replaced every three to four years, meaning that companies are increasingly looking for sustainable ways to replace their used devices. At the same time, millions of computers are needed in developing countries.\r\n\r\nIt is here that Close the Gap creates win-win situations. By supplying developing countries with high-quality refurbished IT equipment that is donated by Western countries, Close the Gap creates practical, social and sustainable solutions that enable people to bring about a true change in their lives through the use of IT.\r\n\r\nSince its founding in 2003, Close the Gap has managed to reinstall tens of thousands of PCs donated by companies in Europe, offering local communities and individuals access to information. With the right tools, people in developing countries can significantly improve the quality of their lives. Access to communication technologies is predominantly vital in enabling them to reach this objective. Computers are used for a large variety of applications and have consequently become an essential part of the personal, educational and professional world. One tends to forget that one of the basic assets provided by computers is access to all kinds of information. Hence, the difference that access to information can make to a person’s life is immeasurable.\r\n\r\nWhen donations are made, Close the Gap’s logistic partner collects the IT equipment. It is then checked by professionals, repaired if needed and reconfigured before it is sent off to a designated project.\r\n\r\nClose the Gap is mostly active in Africa, but also in other developing countries in South-East Asia and South-America. The organisation mainly supports projects in the socio-educational sector, such as schools, universities, hospitals and other programmes focusing on the improvement of educational and information facilities.\r\n\r\nHowever diverse the projects may be, they all have one common denominator: to focus on advancing both the individual and the community within a spirit of social education.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 133, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 3179, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 5046, "latitude": 52.660295, "longitude": -3.148814, "city": "Welshpool", "state": "Powys", "address_1": "41 Broad Street", "address_2": "", "postcode": "SY21 7RR", "iati_country": "GB", "country": 39, "location_target": 3179 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/3e/94/3e94063e5801072d13e86ba84b72194a.jpg", "latitude": "52.660295", "longitude": "-3.148814", "city": "Welshpool", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2015-12-04T09:41:38.433749+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-12-04T09:41:38.497077+01:00", "name": "CPAT", "long_name": "Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.cpat.org.uk/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+44 (0) 1938 553670", "mobile": "+44 (0) 792 0092 417", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Paul Belford", "contact_email": "paul.belford@cpat.org.uk", "description": "The Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust (CPAT) is an independent charitable trust which was established in 1975. Its objective is ‘to advance the education of the public in archaeology’, and this is achieved through three interconnected strands of activity.\r\n\r\nThe Historic Environment Management team maintain the regional Historic Environment Record (HER); provide Planning Services for local authorities, developers and other bodies; and undertake Heritage Management work for Welsh Government, local authorities, landowners, developers and others. \r\n\r\nThe Education and Outreach service provides a wide variety of public engagement, participation and social inclusion opportunities for a range of groups and individuals across the Clwyd-Powys region. This includes events and activities for the general public, as well as work targeted specifically at improving social outcomes and economic aspirations.\r\n\r\nThe Investigation and Research team are responsible for the delivery of archaeological projects funded by private- and public-sector bodies, including Welsh Government. This work enhances the knowledge base which supports Cadw decision-making, enables sustainable development across our region, and delivers training and educational outcomes for professionals, non-professionals and the public.\r\n\r\nThe Administration department maintains a strict control on expenditure, and ensures that the operations of the Trust are conducted in an efficient manner. Governance of the Trust is through a Board of Trustees, which normally meets four times per year. Other activities of the Trust are advised by an Ethics Committee, an Investment Committee, and the Board of Directors of the CPAT HER Charitable Trust. CPAT submits publicly-accessible annual accounts to the Charities Commission, and files returns to Companies House. To prepare to play the important role in the privatization process of the coffee sector , CNAC members were encouraged to join together in cooperatives to defend their interests in a collective way and manage all parts of the production process from the nursery until export and thus benefiting from the added value of the production of specialty coffee , certified coffee, and fair trade.
