"description": "Capital is required by entrepreneurs, farmers, developers of housing projects, and health clinics to invest in their businesses. They also need savings accounts and insurances to cover setbacks. However, entrepreneurs in poor countries often do not have access to these facilities. Institutions and funds that provide microfinance in circumstances where banks do not operate can offer a solution to those entrepreneurs.\r\n\r\nCordaid invests in microfinance institutions and funds that offer loans, guarantees and capital stock to people and businesses that have no other options. We do so in regions that involve a greater risk than other investors are willing to take.\r\n\r\nSuch investments require financial expertise as well as the best possible knowledge of the actual, local circumstances. To acquire such knowledge, Cordaid conducts thorough risk analyses and studies. It also offers tailor-made investments that fit the capacity and needs of the institutions and funds that provide microfinance. And, finally, it strives for insight into the microfinance organizations’ business plans and their client protection principles.\r\n\r\nCordaid has been investing in cost-effective entrepreneurship for over 16 years. Its capital amounts to 70 million euros, which has been invested in over 100 microfinance organizations in 12 countries.",

"description": "Why are women barely playing a role in the reconstruction of their countries?\r\n\r\nWomen are crucial contributors to their societies. They are the ones who cross ethnic and religious borders and who see to the healthy development of their children. They are the ones to advocate for education, employment and new opportunities for young people.\r\n\r\nPeace can only last when women are also involved.\r\nYou would think it speaks for itself.\r\n\r\nIn reality, the situation is different. Women are not treated equally; not by their families, their communities or their governments. They are almost virtually absent during peace talks; only in one in ten cases are women present at the negotiation table. Their interests are neither well-received nor are they acted on.\r\n\r\nCordaid supports the process of uniting local women and provides them with national and international stages - from Afghanistan to Colombia, Sudan to Sri Lanka - to consolidate their positions. Together they define their roles as well as strengthen their positions.",

"description": "Imagine homeless children, parents who cannot afford to pay school fees, or an orphan who is the only caretaker of his or her siblings. Poverty and conflict have a disastrous effect on a child’s healthy development.\r\n\r\nEveryone agrees that a caring home for every child is something we all want. The same goes for finding foster families for those children who might otherwise be left homeless, or providing family coaches to support the families of children with disabilities. And finally, everyone wants to be able to provide families that are living in extreme poverty with financial support to prevent their children from having to work at a young age.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, all children are entitled to adequate education that is provided by qualified teachers and an involved government, with parents’ committees that stimulate their sons and daughters to go to school.\r\n\r\nA comprehensive approach is needed to enable all children of each family to go to school. Such an approach not only has to stimulate all parties involved to tackle the issue, including public authorities, parents, students and teachers, but also has to reward the achievement of good results.",

"description": "Amref is de belangrijkste Afrikaanse gezondheidsorganisatie; in Nederland heten we Amref Flying Doctors. In Afrika heten we Amref Health Africa. ",

However, resources are often more of a curse: they are at the root of severe environmental damage, violations of human rights, conflicts, and poverty.\r\n\r\nDeveloping countries that possess natural resources are the stage for power struggles between multinational corporations and governments. And the stakes are only increasing as the prices are rising and shortages occur. People often do not have sufficient powers to protect their own interests. This has to change and it can be changed.\r\n\r\nIt is about time that communities benefit from the resources their land provides. In order to achieve this goal, an open dialogue based on equality is arranged between companies, governments and the public. Such dialogues aim at moving them to fair and specific agreements. That is what Cordaid does.\r\n\r\nCordaid facilitates an open dialogue so communities can flourish.",

"description": "Disasters hit the poorest the hardest. They often live in the most dangerous locations and are most susceptible to natural disasters, such as floods or droughts. They are also the ones who will have to leave behind their homes, jobs and farmland when fleeing from acts of war. Often they do not have anything or anyone to fall back on.\r\n\r\nDisasters affect structural development, destroying investments of years. This means that the most effective disaster response demands synergy between disaster risk reduction and humanitarian aid. Using our 100 years of experience, Cordaid connects emergency aid with sustainable development.\r\n\r\nWe work with communities and organisations to reduce the impact of disasters and be prepared when disasters do strike.\r\n\r\nCordaid is able to offer immediate help in the most remote areas of the world through our extensive network of partners.\r\n\r\nTogether with local communities and organisations, Cordaid works toward reducing the impacy of disasters.",

"description": "All over the world, Wilde Ganzen (Wild Geese) supports disadvantaged people, through their Dutch partners, who make an effort to achieve a better future for their community. Our support is meant for small-scale and specific projects of, for and by the people themselves in developing countries and a number of Eastern European countries, without distinguishing between race, language, religion or orientation. \r\nWilde Ganzen tries to achieve this aim by raising funds for the projects together with the Dutch partner. Besides, we have been raising funds by means of a weekly radio and television appeal through the Dutch inter-church broadcasting IKON ever since our formation in 1957.\r\nYou may submit a project proposal only if you have a Dutch partner who is willing to raise funds for your project. \r\n\r\nEvery year, Wilde Ganzen supports approximately 500 new projects all over the world. Wilde Ganzen only supports projects, through the so called ‘Dutch partners’, for which schools, foundations or private persons in the Netherlands raise funds, the so-called private initiatives. Each project requires a private initiative in the Netherlands that makes an effort to raise the necessary funds for the project. Wilde Ganzen increases the funds raised by adding a Bonus of 70% to the net result of the campaign, after which the project can be executed. Through their donation, endowment or inheritance, the donors enable Wilde Ganzen to support hundreds of campaigns year after year. ",

"description": "Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) is an NGO registered at the District Administration Office, Jumla under the Society Registration Act, 1978, and is affiliated to the Social Welfare Council in Kathmandu. It has been in operation in Karnali Zone since 1999 with its central office located in Jumla district with offices in four other districts viz. Kalikot, Humla, Mugu and Dolpa, a Program Support Office at Nepalgunj and a Coordination Office in Kathmandu. \r\n\r\nKarnali Zone is endowed with abundant natural resources like flora, fauna, water, agriculture, horticulture, tourism, mines, minerals, lakes etc. But, unfortunately, these have not been tapped to the least for the benefits of the people for their livelihood improvement due to continued state neglect such as lack of appropriate development policies and commitment for Karnali Zone. As a result, the people of Karnali Zone continued to remain very poor deprived of adequate basic facilities like health, education, food, employment, markets, communication etc. since time immemorial and falls at the bottom of Human Development Index. More so, the caste and gender discrimination in Karnali Zone is comparatively high resulting in lack of access of women, Dalits and marginalized people to resources, opportunities and decision making processes from social, economical and political perspectives. To add more to the woes, the situation in Karnali Zone was further aggravated due to the Maoist movement which culminated into a fierce armed clash with the State resulting in serious human rights violation with a death toll of nearly 700 people, abduction and disappearance of more than 300, torture and detention of more than 800 and displacement of more than 7000 people.",
