"description": "The East-West Management Institute works to strengthen democratic societies by bringing together government, civil society, and the private sector – to build accountable, capable and transparent institutions. Founded in 1988, as an independent not-for-profit organization, EWMI’s work began the year before the wall came down, with the challenge of crafting functioning democratic systems in transitioning post-soviet societies. We learned – in our initial work across central and eastern Europe, and in the decades that followed around the world - that a collaborative approach involving civil society, government and the private sector is the key to ensuring that citizens exercise their rights, and institutions are accountable for protecting them. This leads to more just and prosperous societies.\r\n\r\nEWMI addresses complex challenges with practical, cross-cutting solutions. EWMI specializes in targeted, locally relevant initiatives that foster partnerships, and cross-sector collaboration, from assisting the state and local advocates in policy creation and reform to engaging in court administration, local economic development and technical support to civil society. EWMI does not offer off-the-shelf or cookie cutter solutions to these issues, because it appreciates from experience that each local context is unique.",

"description": "The Open Institute was established in September 2006 by four founding members who are committed to and interested in contributing to the development of a democratic and just society by facilitating and promoting information, communication and knowledge sharing in society through all means and tools. The Open Institute is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization that was officially registered at the Ministry of Interior on December 15, 2006.\r\n\r\nWe recognize that citizen participation in political and social movements, with freedom of expression and opinion and freedom to access to information, are fundamental for a democratic and just society. For this reason, the Open Institute was set up with the purpose to provide information, tools, knowledge and to promote dialogue in society. The organization's key strategies are to provide computers programs in the Khmer language, to build capacity by providing computer and e-learning know-how trainings throughout the country, to provide electronic channels for information sharing and discussion, and to organize face to face meetings to discuss social concerns, including topics related to gender equity.",

"description": "Phandeeyar (“creation place”) is an innovation lab that is spearheading the development of Myanmar’s tech ecosystem. Phandeeyar invests in local technology startups, trains new entrepreneurs and builds the pool of tech talent. Phandeeyar also helps civic and social entrepreneurs, CSOs and independent media use technology to increase their impact and runs a co-working space out of its 6000 square foot space located in the heart of downtown Yangon.\r\n\r\nPhandeeyar was born out of Code for Change Myanmar, a series of hackathons in 2014 that highlighted the potential of Myanmar’s connectivity revolution. In 2015, thousands of people participated in Phandeeyar’s more than 100 events, which included a startup competition and three hackathons. In 2016, Phandeeyar launched Myanmar’s first-ever tech startup Accelerator, the Yangon chapter of Founder Institute, Silicon Valley’s most successful entrepreneur development program, a Makerspace for the country’s hardware hackers, and an open data platform: OpenDevelopmentMyanmar.net.",

So it’s really easy to understand where your money goes. And it’s really easy to make a difference. You don’t even need to change your habits, just the products in your shopping basket.\r\n\r\n\r\nWe’re a registered UK charity, working with communities in Africa to address some of the most pressing humanitarian issues of the day, including clean drinking water, HIV, nutrition and sanitation.\r\n\r\nWe aim to focus our efforts where it’s needed most, funding like-for-like projects through the sale of One products and services.",

"description": "Aqua for All is a not-for-profit organisation operating in Africa and Asia. For almost two decades, we have worked towards catalysing an innovative, sustainable and inclusive water and sanitation economy worldwide.\r\n\r\nWe believe that innovation, scalable solutions, and public and private capital are needed to bridge the service and financial gap to achieve SDG 6 – Water and sanitation for all.\r\n\r\nWe use grants to accelerate providing access to water and sanitation to low-income households and institutions. We do this by supporting innovations and scaling up enterprises until they are investment ready, without distorting the market. In addition, we use our funds to mobilise private and public capital to increase investments in water and sanitation.\r\n\r\nWe are Making Water Count!\r\n\r\nFor more information, please visit: aquaforall.org",

"description": "ETC Urban Agriculture (ETC-UA) is the advisory group and resource centre working in the field of urban agriculture and food security since 1992. Its mission is to improve capacities of local authorities, NGOs and CBOs, governmental organisations and other stakeholders regarding urban agriculture.\r\n\r\nIncreasingly people live in cities, and urban poverty and urban food insecurity are rapidly rising. Growing food, herbs and medicinal plants, and raising animals in vacant open spaces in and around the cities, provides the urban poor with nutritious food and an important source of income. Urban farming also contributes to other urban issues such as social inclusion, urban water management, recycling of urban wastes, urban greening, recreation and ecological education.\r\n\r\nThe staff of ETC Urban Agriculture consists of experienced professionals of various disciplines, programme assistants, as well as a unit secretary and financial officer. This team is assisted on demand by specialists involved in other ETC units. ETC Urban Agriculture advisors have long term experience in various aspects of sustainable agricultural development in both the urban and rural context in a large number of countries.\r\n\r\nExpertise & Services\r\n\r\nETC-Urban Agriculture organises its team and work around the following main themes:\r\n\r\n1. Urban agriculture, poverty alleviation and local economic development.\r\n\r\nUrban agriculture can play an important role as a complementary strategy for poverty alleviation, social inclusion and local economic development. ETC-UA supports the transition from subsistence to market oriented farming by assisting in technology development, improved farm management, strengthening of farmers organisations, supporting micro-enterprises involved in production of compost and other inputs, as well as in food processing, market analysis and development of direct producer-consumer linkages, etcetera. Special attention is given to women and unemployed youth.\r\n\r\n2. Urban agriculture, food security and nutrition.\r\n\r\nUrban agriculture can make important contributions to improvement of food security and nutrition of the urban poor by production for (home) consumption and local exchange or sales of surpluses which substantially enhances access of poor urban families to fresh foods at reasonable prices and reduces food costs allowing to save income for other essentials (medicines, school fees).\r\nETA-UA assists in designing strategies to enhance security of land use, introduction of low cost micro-farming technologies and nutritional education. Special attention is given to disadvantaged groups and families affected by HIV-Aids.\r\n\r\n3. Reuse of urban organic wastes and waste water in urban agriculture\r\n\r\nReuse of urban organic wastes and wastewater in agriculture under proper management, converts wastes into valuable resources (nutrients and water) for farmers, while reducing negative impact on health and environment. ETC-UA supports this by documenting and dissemination of best practices, by assisting in the set up of household and community based waste collection and compost production units, and by assisting in the design and implementation of municipal strategies that reduce the health and environmental risks associated with reuse of wastewater while enhancing its socio-economic benefits.\r\n\r\n4. Integration of urban agriculture in urban planning and design\r\n\r\nIntegration of agriculture in the urban planning system is an important precondition for the development of sustainable and safe urban agriculture for income and food as well as for urban greening, micro-climate regulation, landscape and biodiversity management, creation of buffer zones and land reserves, water management and recreational options for the citizens (agro-tourism). ETC-UA supports inclusion of urban agriculture in urban land use planning and the design of new neighbourhoods or slum development projects. Promotion of multi-functional land use is often an important focus.",

"description": "Our mission is to build a future in which people live in harmony with nature. From our experience as the world's leading independent conservation body, we know that the well-being of people, wildlife and the environment are closely linked. That's why we take an integrated approach to our work.\r\n\r\nWe're striving to safeguard the natural world, helping people live more sustainably and take action against climate change. We spend a lot of time working with communities, with politicians and with businesses to find solutions so people and nature can thrive.\r\n\r\nOur projects are innovative, collaborative and based on scientific evidence. And we think big. We run a number of Global initiatives focussing on the regions and challenges where we can make the biggest difference - from the Arctic and the Amazon to responsible fishing.",
