"description": "The Nederland-Batam foundation (Neba) is a small Dutch-based development aid organization. Since 1987 the foundation offers social and medical aid to underprivileged people in Indonesia. We do so because we think that everybody is entitled to an independent and humane life and good quality healthcare and socio-economic development of underprivileged are essential to achieve this. \r\n\r\nThe Nederland-Batam foundation aims to contribute to the independence and self-reliance of underprivileged so that they can shape their own lives and achieve their human rights. And because independence and self-reliance are our core-values Neba realizes its activities through cooperation with local Indonesian organizations.\r\n\r\nNeba is active in 3 main areas in Indonesia; Batam and surrounding islands, the Jakarta/Bandung area on Java island and the province of North-Sulawesi. \r\n\r\nOn Batam we support HIV/AIDS and maternal health related projects. In the Jakarta/Bandung area we support a maternal health hospital, a school for handicapped children, a kidney hospital and a shelter for streetchildren. And in North-Sulawesi we support basic and maternal healthcare, community-development and HIV training and other HIV/AIDS related projects.",

"description": "Health[e]Foundation was founded in 2003, by Fransje van der Waals, MD PhD. It was established with the conviction that accurate and state-of-the-art information is essential for healthcare workers worldwide. It takes up the challenge to provide all healthcare workers with access to this information, particularly in those parts of the world most deprived of resources.\r\n\r\nBy offering blended learning programs, Health[e]Foundation aims to give as many healthcare workers as possible access to information and knowledge that is essential for their daily clinical practice. The courses can be done online, as well as offline, facilitating learning even in the most remote areas.\r\n\r\nThe distance learning part ensures that all participants can study at their own pace and time, while the combination with short onsite trainings guarantees feedback from experts as well as colleagues. The webportal facilitates communication not only with colleagues from one's own region, but also worldwide. All courses are updated annually, ensuring that all participants have lifelong access to state-of-the-art information.\r\n",

"description": "Stichting Kinderhulp Bodhgaya/Child Welfare Bodhgaya Foundation gives castless orphans and children that are left behind, in the district Bodhgaya, in Bihar, India a home again, medical care, education and a vocational training. In this way a fundamental contribution is given to the development of structural provisions for childsren with a seemingly hopeless future.\r\n\r\nTwo kilometers from Bodhgaya, where according to the tradition The Buddha reached enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in hte world-famous Mahabodhi temple, a children village was built with associated infrastructure. In accordance with the local culture the village for children is called \"Lord Buddha Home for Children\". This complex facilitates in a shelter for hundred children, girls as well boys, in small family houses for 10 children each. The children are raised by their \"own\" mother, who gives them the loved and respect they deserve. A health centre wich is also available for the local community, a pray- annex recreation building and staff rooms are part of the village. A primary school will soon get under construction. Since this year there is also a vocational training centre, wich is also available for the children and youth from the local community.\r\nThe buildings are surrounded by a play yard, sportfields, a kitchen garden and soon here will be a small farm for hte kids.\r\n\r\nBecause of the numbers and the problems of the outcast children in Bodhgaya region, it's impossible to house all the outcast children in the village. To prevent theze children from derailing, The \"Lord Buddha Home for Children\" provides Community Empowerment programs about health care, education and employment for these children and their families. In this context healthcare is the foundation for a healthy society. When people are healthy, it becomes easier for them to follow an education learn a trade ans work towards a better life. Therefore we have setting up Multi Activity Centres (MA|C's), run by local people, where people can learn how to control their helath, the helath of their family and how to improve the local living conditions.\r\nThese extensions to the program are seen as innovative elements in finding a solution for the current problems facing the orphans and outcast children in and around Bodhgaya. they add enormous value to the program.\r\n\r\nThe Stichting Kinderhulp Bodhgaya/Child Welfare Bodhgaya Foundation is cooperating the programs with the NGO Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra in Hazaribag, India. This organization is raised in 1971 and well known in India and also international.",

From its humble beginnings in a small dalit hamlet in the village of Bahera in Hazaribag in the state of Jharkhand, the organization now has a presence in 10 districts of Jharkhand and Bihar. NBJK also works in close partnership with a networked of voluntary organizations and small groups in an additional 40 districts in the two states.\r\n\r\nThe organization aims at facilitating a just and egalitarian society through an integrated development approach, with special emphasis on the most vulnerable and disadvantaged sections of society. The 6 core program areas are as follows: education; eye care and health; micro credit and socio-economic development; solid waste management and sanitation; small group support, advocacy, and governance; and disaster relief. \r\n\r\nNBJK is registered as a society under the Society Registration Act XXI, 1860 at Patna, Bihar. We live in a world where economic means are very unequally divided. At least you can independently make sure that a part of our means ends up where you think it would be most useful!” - Anna Chojnacka.\r\n\r\n“Through the website you can choose yourself which projects you want to support, so you know exactly where your 1% is going. The website combines Web 2.0 elements with the rise of people and organisations who want to contribute to development cooperation, and is therefore really in itself a form of International Cooperation 2.0” – Bart Lacroix.\r\n\r\n1%Club is a marketplace that connects smart development projects with people, money and knowledge around the world. Based in Amsterdam, it is focused on engaging individuals and groups to commit one per cent of their time and money to international development projects.",

"description": "The Kenya Water and Sanitation Network (KEWASNET) was founded in August 2007 to enable civil society organizations involved in the Water and Sanitation Sector (WSS) to work in a coordinated manner.\r\n\r\nThe overall purpose of the Network is to ensure that Kenyans have access to affordable and safe water and sanitation services in a sustainable context. The membership is drawn from civil society organizations that are working to improve water resource management and increase efficiency in service delivery in water and sanitation services. \r\n\r\nBroadly, KEWASNET provides a linkage between service providers and consumers by facilitating partnerships between policy makers and stakeholders and encouraging equitable participation by all parties in governance and decision-making mechanisms. \r\nOrganizational identity \r\nKEWASNET is registered as a non-governmental voluntary, non-partisan and non-profit trust under the Kenyan Trustees Act. Nationwide recruitment of member civil society organizations is ongoing so as to continuously increase citizen participation in the management of Kenya’s water and sanitation services. \r\n\r\nThe participation of civil society organizations in all-important decision-making about management of water resources is legitimized in the Water Act 2002. In keeping with the main principles outlined in the Water Act2002, KEWASNET seeks broader participation in the monitoring and evaluation of policy implementation and in all areas related to the management of water resources and services. \r\n\r\nThis is to ensure that the development of water resources and access to water services is socially acceptable to different citizen groups, especially marginalized communities. A related aim is to ensure that the supply of water to the poor is achieved through government and its agencies, at acceptable levels, and in compliance with the provisions of the Water Act 2002.",

These are: Somali and Karamoja clusters in the north, the Lake Victoria cluster in the south west of the country and the Nairobi-Nakuru cluster in central Kenya.\r\n\r\nThe work carried out by Practical Action regional office in Kenya is centred on three themes:\r\n\r\nReducing vulnerability\r\nTo strengthen the ability of poor women and men to use technology to cope with threats to their livelihoods from natural disasters, environmental degradation and civil conflict.\r\n\r\nMaking markets work for poor people\r\nTo enable poor women and men to use technologies effectively in systems of production, processing and marketing to build secure livelihoods.\r\n\r\nImproving access to infrastructure services\r\nTo improve the access of poor women and men to locally managed infrastructure services.\r\nThe three areas of work are supervised and guided by three programme team leaders. The programme implementation team consists of project managers who are responsible for managing the different projects that come under each broad theme area.\r\n\r\nIn addition, there is also a Quality Assurance and Fundraising Unit, which incorporates: fundraising, communications and the resource centre. The Unit not only provides support to the organization by giving inputs to evaluation and monitoring of projects and by liaising with donors and funding organizations but also facilitates information sharing of the project experiences, profile raising and financial support for the organisation. It aims to strengthen Practical Action-EA's presence as a lead authority in poverty alleviation through the use of appropriate technologies and processes within the East Africa region. The Eastern Africa office is managed by the Eastern Africa Regional Director, Grace Mukasa.",

ICRAF’s headquarters are in Nairobi, Kenya, with five regional offices located in Cameroon, India, Indonesia, Kenya and Peru. The Centre’s vision is a rural transformation in the developing world as smallholder households strategically increase their use of trees in agricultural landscapes to improve their food security, nutrition, income, health, shelter, social cohesion, energy resources and environmental sustainability. The Centre’s mission is to generate science-based knowledge about the diverse roles that trees play in agricultural landscapes, and to use its research to advance policies and practices, and their implementation, that benefit the poor and the environment.\r\n\r\nWe receive our funding from about 50 different investors, including governments, private foundations, international organizations and regional development banks. "description": "WaterAid worked in Kenya from the mid 1980s until the early 1990s. At that time it seemed the development indicators were very strong so it was decided WaterAid's efforts could be focused elsewhere. In 2008 WaterAid conducted a scoping study in Kenya and decided that, after ten years away from the country, there were compelling reasons to return. The study found that by establishing a presence in Kenya WaterAid could help to understand and tackle the water and sanitation situation.\r\n\r\nWaterAid's plans:\r\nIn the first instance, we will re-establish WaterAid’s presence in Kenya by registering, recruiting staff and setting up an office. This will then lead to a two year pilot phase, with the development of a programme of work based on a deeper sector analysis and thorough exploration of potential partnerships in Kenya. After the initial two year phase, a review will be conducted and a country strategy developed.",
