The cooperation between the EU and Kenya, as well as the other ACP countries has been guided by the principles of the Cotonou Agreement and the Country Strategies.\r\nThe EU Delegation in Nairobi opened in 1976, following the signature of the first Lomé Convention. At the time of the Delegation’s establishment, its principal mandate was, close co-operation with the Government of Kenya, and implementation of the development cooperation. Over the years the role of the Delegation has expanded considerably. We are now fully involved in political dialogue with the Government of Kenya, as well as in the political co-ordination process with the 19 EU Member States represented in Nairobi.",

"description": "SANNAM is a network of nurses and midwives of the SADC region, which was formed in 2002. This was as a result of deliberations that took place at a satellite meeting preceding the International Aids Conference in Durban in 2000. National Nurses Associations had in their own countries been working on improving the conditions for nurses, however in the absence of mechanisms to share best practices; they had been left to re invent the wheel.\r\nNurses and midwives of the region realized that they have to join hands in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic that was and is still hitting the SADC region hard. Thus this network was formed. SANNAM has made tremendous strides towards strengthening NNAs/NNOs (National Nursing Associations/Organisations) through capacity building, networking and sharing of best practices. Its 15 member NNOs/NNAs currently represent over 200,000 Nurses and Midwives. \r\n\r\nThis regional structure is registered in terms of the Non-profit Organizations Act of 1997 in South Africa and coordinates all projects from its Secretariat established at 605 Church Street (DENOSA Headquarters), Pretoria 0001, South Africa. \r\n\r\nThe Secretariat is led by an Executive Director, supported by a qualified Finance Officer and an Administrative Secretary and overseen by an Executive Committee of five members, who are presidents of member NNAs/NNOs. The secretariat ensures the effective implementation and management of regional projects through coordinating meetings, contracting services effectively, and monitoring and evaluation. It also serves to strengthen the network and ensure that programmes are integrated through sharing information and consolidating the organisation. \r\nThe Secretariat is managed in agreement with labour regulations of the host country (South Africa) and collaborates with SADC Secretariat Health Sector and HIV/AIDS Unit for regional concerns and partnership in some projects. Member NNAs/NNOs are legal entities registered in their countries. The organization has initiated negotiations with the SADC secretariat for long –term sustainability.\r\n\r\nSANNAM collaborate with other regional and international organizations such as: CIDA through CNA, ICN, WHO – Afro, ILO, UNAIDS, EQUINET, Universities…and is member of the GHWA.\r\n\r\nSANNAM has received support from CORDAID since 2009 to implement a 2 year project that aimed at improving the working conditions of Nurses and Midwives in the region through strengthening the lobbying and advocating capacity of NNAs/NNOs. The results of this project inspired the need to further enhance advocacy capacity of Nursing and Midwifery leaders at national and peripheral level for effective involvement in decision making and influencing health policies.\r\n\r\nSANNAM vision is: Improved regional health services through strengthening National Nurses Associations/Organisations (NNAs/NNOs); its activities focus on: networking, capacity building, experiences sharing, twinning partnership, lobby and advocacy, research (not well developed) and support to members (e.g coaching and solidarity interventions).",

"description": "African Monitor has taken time to understand how the poor currently live and survive, hypothesizing that a better understanding of how communities currently survive will lead to improved understanding of how development actors can work with grassroots communities to strengthen and sustain their livelihoods. We at African Monitor learnt that most of the poor survive by engaging actively and creatively in small income generating activities within the informal sector. They consist of the rural poor primarily engaged in agriculture, the isolated urban poor located in slums and shanty towns, and masses of young people excluded from formal economic activity. Realizing this, the question African Monitor is asking is “how does one design development systems and economies which works for grassroots communities?”\r\n\r\nFrom the perspective of grassroots communities with which African Monitor works, the message is clear – the African Moment will be realized when all of Africa’s citizens are able to effectively access the continent’s resources and economic opportunities so that they can independently generate and sustain their own livelihoods. It is clear that grassroots communities are largely not seeking handouts – but rather seek the same opportunities afforded to others, which make it possible to survive and thrive. To address this current urgent need, African Monitor has adopted an agenda to Unlock the African Moment for grassroots communities, by promoting policies, approaches and practices that increase grassroots’ ‘capability to function’; and those that unlock the grassroots potential to be the drivers of Africa’s economic rejuvenation.",

This flagship project is being supported by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through the Ministry of Health, who are currently conducting a Randomised Control Trial through IPA (Innovations for Poverty Action) to establish the impact of CHCs on community health. \r\n\r\nOur team is a dedicated group of local development practitioners based out of Zimbabwe and Rwanda, committed to assisting rural and urban communities in developing countries improve their standards of living through safe hygiene, water, sanitation and poverty alleviation, women's empowerment, food security and sustainable livelihoods using Community Health Clubs as a vehicle for change. \r\n\r\nTo this end we provide assistance in all aspects of a CHC programme, including feasibility, design, development of training materials, training of trainers, research, monitoring and evaluation, and are the foremost organization for research, dissemination, advocacy and mentoring in the Community Health Club Approach. \r\n\r\nWe support local and international NGOs, Agencies and particularly strengthening Environmental Health Departments within Ministries of Health in Africa.

"description": "Acacia Water “for solutions in groundwater” was established in 2003 at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences). Acacia Water focuses on groundwater in relation to surface water, environment and infrastructure. This varies from implementation of field measurements and model calculations, to giving training and strategic advice. Acacia distinguishes itself by the cooperation with the University, as a result of which Acacia Water has access to the latest scientific developments in the field of hydrology and environment. We translate this knowledge to innovative and practical solutions.\r\n\r\nThe strength of Acacia Water is the specialization in the field of groundwater, while at the same time being able to place issues in a broader perspective and to link up with other fields of action. As a result we often work in a multidisciplinary environment with a broad variety of expertise.\r\n\r\nThe Acacia team exists of passionate and enthusiastic groundwater experts. In the past five years our expertise has been made available to a large range of clients, including the World Bank, UNESCO, UNICEF, the EU and national governments. In the Netherlands our main clients are waterboards, water supply companies and local- and regional governments. By continuing our involvement in international projects, particularly in the field of rural water supply, Acacia water continues to give content to its social responsibility.\r\n\r\nWe look forward to discuss in what way Acacia Water can play a role in providing solutions in the field of ground - and water management to your organization.",

Sixty-five years later, it has grown into a politically outspoken and influential national federation of over twenty local chapters and is widely regarded as a torch-bearer of LGBTI emancipation both in the Netherlands and abroad. Domestically, COC is (co)responsible for the establishment of equal age of consent for gay and straight sexual activity and the introduction of comprehensive antidiscrimination legislation and the various laws, policies and arrangements that make the Netherlands the world’s most LGBTI-friendly country to live in [© Radio Netherlands Worldwide, September 2011]. The organisations’ headquarters is based in Amsterdam and employs a full-time professional staff of twenty-five. In 2010, the annual turnover was an estimated €4,8 million, with international projects constituting about 43% of the total budget.",

"description": "The Ecological Management Foundation (EMF) is a typical non-profit, network organization: the head office is based in Amsterdam and staffed by a committed group of part-time employees and volunteers; several partner organizations around the world share the same ideals and ambitions and provide support where and when needed.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, EMF is dedicated to improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities in developing countries. EMF identifies, promotes and incubates small-scale projects that are innovative, practical, solution-oriented, and have a broad impact in the target country. We achieve this through providing three types of services:\r\n\r\n1) Think tank:\r\nWe watch trends and set out a vision on the kind of innovation that would alleviate the shortage of clean water in developing countries. We spread awareness of third world water issues through articles, documentaries and workshops.\r\n \r\n2) Match Maker:\r\nWe build networks and translate trends and visions from the think tank into viable projects and initiatives by bringing key partners together.\r\n\r\n3) Incubator:\r\nWe initiate pilot projects and compile business plans and road maps to scale up successful pilots.",

"description": "Every day 4.500 children die as a result due to a shortage of clean drinking water. This while at the same time in other parts of the world clean drinking water is used to do the dishes and to flush the toilet. More than a billion people do not have access to clean drinking water and as a result of this 3,5 million people worldwide die every year. Jointhepipe.org, an internationally oriented foundation, wants to do something about this! Our goal is to build the longest water pipe in the world. Long enough to bring clean and safe drinking water to all of those people who currently have no drinking water.\r\nThe construction of water projects in Third World countries is being financed through the sale of our unique, hip and sustainable Jointhepipe.org water carafes and water bottles. Bottled water that is being imported from European countries is responsible for a great deal of CO2 emissions and is, on top of that, 400 to 3000 times more expensive than tap water. And that while The Netherlands have the best drinking water in Europe, that is what tests performed by the European Commission have shown. \r\nJointhepipe.org wants to promote the most sustainable water there is: tap water. We therefore designed a series of carafes and water bottles that can be filled with tap water. This way it is no longer necessary to purchase those polluting plastic throw-away bottles in the future. The profit of every carafe or bottle sold is being donated to one of our many water projects in Third World countries. So, drink only tap water from now on. Not only is it good for the environment and your wallet, but you can help us with our dream to bring safe drinking water to all those currently without. www.jointhepipe.org\r\n",

We do this together with partners in 10 African and Asian countries. Our goal is a world in which all women and girls can exercise their right to water and sanitation, resulting in a healthier and more just society. \r\n\r\nIn a rapidly changing world grappling with major crises in the areas of climate, health and human rights, Simavi focuses on three areas where we believe we can achieve the greatest impact with our projects, lobbying and campaigns: equality, climate and power. \r\n\r\nWe want to increase the involvement and leadership of women in water and sanitation. We believe that women's and girls' access to climate-resilient water and sanitation is at the heart of climate justice. We are also convinced that women's voices and expertise are crucial for change when it comes to water and sanitation. \r\n\r\nOur work is part of the Sustainable Development Goals and Simavi focuses specifically on three interconnected SDGs: water and sanitation (SDG6); gender equality (SDG5) and climate (SDG13).

If they do not manage to organise themselves, they will remain powerless on a political level and will be economically disadvantaged. Agriterra’s work is based on the conviction that if they organise themselves, they will be able to take the responsibility of their development into their own hands. Strong and representative agricultural organisations are indispensable for the promotion of democracy, for a better distribution of income and for the economic development of a country.",

"description": "Dark & Light Foundation (now LIGHT FOR THE WORLD The Netherlands) was founded in 1982 by Dutch ophthalmologist Dr. Martien Cozijnsen and his wife Jenny. During a trip to Thailand they discovered tremendous needs among blind children in that country. Not only because of their physical handicap, but also because of the stigma and rejection they face. Education was not available for blind children. That was the reason to start a foundation.\r\n\r\nThrough the years\r\nThrough the years the small family foundation has grown to a well-organized foundation that has become an important party in helping the blind and visually impaired in developing countries. The foundation found, and still finds, its inspiration in the Gospel that calls upon us to reach out to the poor and the underpriviliged.\r\n\r\nExtended\r\nThe primary mission of LIGHT FOR THE WORLD The Netherlands was to educate blind children. Later on, the field of work broadened. We discoverd that a lot of children become needlessly blind, so prevention and treatment of blindness was added. Also there came a demand to help people who were irreversibly blind. Rehabilitation and low vision services were added. In recent years the focus has switched to inclusive development. That means that the society is equipped for equal participation of persons with a disability.\r\n\r\nLIGHT FOR THE WORLD\r\nIn 2011 Dark & Light joined LIGHT FOR THE WORLD, a European confederation of national development NGOs committed to saving eyesight, improving the quality of life and advocating for the rights of person with disabilities in the underprivileged regions of our world. LIGHT FOR THE WORLD has members in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic and The Netherlands.\r\n\r\nSince 2012, Dark & Light Foundation is called LIGHT FOR THE WORLD The Netherlands. As a confederation member we still have our own identity, mission, vision, board and staff.\r\n\r\nLIGHT FOR THE WORLD The Netherlands supports about 40 projects in 11 countries in Africa and Asia. On a yearly basis about 5 million euro is spent on projects. The office is based in Veenendaal, The Netherlands with about 14 staff. Also an office was established in South Sudan with 2 staff.",

"description": "De Parade is a two-month mobile theatre festival with performances that take place in tents. Like a fair or a circus, de Parade has been touring the Netherlands and abroad for 21 years, descending on the nicest parks and squares in town. Depending on the prospective public, de Parade will stay in town for 10 or 17 days. De Parade is the only travelling theatre festival in the world and has been set up like a circus turned inside-out, with the audience in the centre and the artists around them. The result is an irresistible live panorama of theatre, dance, music, art, entertainment, magic, curiosities, attractions and shows. This colourful collection of theatre tents, fountain tents, the chairoplane and the global restaurants make the de Parade festival site resemble an old-fashioned fair ground.\r\n\r\nEvery year the de Parade programme is like a refreshingly theatrical maze. The public can choose from a selection of performances usually produced especially for de Parade and shown simultaneously on the festival site. The length of the shows varies from three to sixty minutes. Every performance is repeated several times each night. There is also an extensive children's parade. In this way, everybody can plan their own day full of culture, art, theatre and music. The programme is made up of dozens of programmes and attractions. The artists try to influence the public by presenting free and attractive de Parade acts on the stage in front of their tents, like the bonisseurs (showmen) who used to draw the public's attention to their shows at the annual fairs in the Middle Ages. Their act was called 'holding a parade'. De Parade has it origins in the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, an international travelling theatre festival that toured from 1984 to 1987.",
