Nairobits program activities are carried out by a team of nine professional members of staff and ten interns.\r\n\r\nVision\r\nKenyan Youth making positive contribution towards a prosperous and balanced society.\r\n\r\nMission\r\nNairobits exists to positively change the lives of vulnerable youth in Kenya by improving their access to productive employment as well as their ability to cope with their social environment through creativity and innovation.\r\n\r\nNairobits model of working involves working with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) with roots in the non formal settlements. Currently Nairobits works with 30 CBOs. The rationale is that the CBOs have a better understanding of the environment they work in. The CBOs provide the youth that Nairobits trains.\r\nOwing to the versatility of ICT, Nairobits also works closely with the private sector as partners in the training. These companies consist mainly those in the in the web design sector. They provide Nairobits with up to date information on what is obtaining in the ICT sector. They take part in the curriculum review and act as guest teachers during training. After training, they take the youth on as interns in their companies with more then 90% of then retaining the interns as employees. The Network brings together 15 Associations which represent roughly 9000 local authorities, directly elected by more than 80 million citizens of this region. The NALAS Secretariat, based in Skopje, is responsible for the overall coordination and the implementation of the activities.\r\n\r\nNALAS was created in 2001 following the first Forum of Cities and Regions of South-East Europe (Skopje, November 2000), organised by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The Network was established under the auspices of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe (Working Table 1) and the Council of Europe. During the first years, NALAS functioned as an informal organisation with regular meetings, seminars and training programmes. In July 2005 NALAS became an officially registered association with its seat in Strasbourg. The NALAS Secretariat was established in March 2007.\r\n\r\nNALAS promotes the process of decentralisation in cooperation with central governments and international organisations, considering local self-government as a key issue in the current process of transition affecting the various countries in South-East Europe. NALAS builds partnerships in order to contribute to the reconciliation and stabilisation process in the region and henceforth contributes to the process of the European integration of the whole region.\r\n\r\nNALAS initiates and carries out regional initiatives for its members and helps the associations to become viable representatives of local authorities vis-а-vis central government. We establish that by constructing foundations and boreholes, and station hand pumps on the foundation.\r\nThe cost of 1 foundation: € 500\r\nThe cost of 1 hand pump: € 500\r\nWith 1 borehole and pump we can either provide a school of about 800 pupils or a community of about 200 people. From January 2006 until December 2006 we established 21 pumps in Namelok and \r\nsurrounding area. Our target is to establish 20 boreholes and pumps each year.\r\nApart from the water project we are also improving and upgrading schools and give them educational materials.
