"description": "Uraia is the premier National Civic Education Organisation in Kenya. It has been in existence since year 2000 and has been working to contribute towards the progress of Kenya through the development of it's most important resource – Kenyan Citizens. Uraia began as the National Civic Education Programme (NCEP) when a formal partnership was struck between 70 Kenyan indigenous civil society organisations (CSOs) – who became implementing partners (IPs) – and a group of development partners who undertook a joint funding mechanisms of the Programme.\n\nNCEP was implemented between August 2000 and october 2010 in two phases after which Uraia converted into a Trust. The Trust successfully implemented its first strategic plan that ran from 2011 to 2015. Under this strategic plan Uraia implemented two programmes namely Uchaguzi Bora and Rooting Democrancy in Kenya through an informed citizenry. The Uchaguzi Bora programme goal was to contribute to democratic transformation processes in Kenya, leading to improved governance and nationhood in line with the promises and values of the 2010 Constitution while the Rooting Democracy programme was aimed at contributing towards promoting, securing and defending constitutionalism in Kenya for improved democracy and realization of a just and equitable society. \n\nUraia Trust is currently implementing activities under its second strategic plan running from 2016 to 2020. Uraia's vision is to is attain an informed, empowered and democratic nation. Its is mission is to provide quality civic education and empower kenyans to exercise their civic duty inorder to realize their constitutional aspirations. This will be achieved by programmes focusing on four key focus areas as follows;\n1. Entrenching constitutionalism\n2. Promoting free and fair elections\n3. Addressing the historical, political marginalization of women, youth, persons with disabilities, marginalized and minority groups\n4. Internal execellence.\n \nThe overriding theme of Uraia's work 2016 to 2020 is moving from rights and responsibilities to values and nationhood. Uraia Trust has a board of Trustees whose overall responsibility is to provide strategic direction and oversight. The secretariat which is overseen by an Executive Director comprises of twenty staff who implement Uraia programmes on a day to today basis.",

The schools had ceased to exist as independent schools in 2002. The foundation safeguards the heritage of these schools, and continues to promote it's methodology and concepts for vocational training of women. The Dutch VAM foundation supports and promotes emancipation, gender equity and economic independence for women in particular. (see Mission & Goals). The expertise and methods used are widely recognized as one of the most successful in terms of women acquiring job qualifications and entering the labor market.\r\n\r\nIt specializes in made-to-measure vocational training for (especially) women - also in developing countries- in the fields of inter alia computer maintenance and services, entrepreneurship, management of water committees and maintenance of water pumps, plumbing, carpentry, building, etc. \r\nCurrently VAM is assisting in projects or monitoring projects in e.g. Suriname (South America), Turkey, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Mali and Moldova.\r\n\r\nThe Foundation is a not-for-profit, registered NGO, based in the Netherlands.",

"description": "Vijana Amani Pamoja – meaning ‘Peace Together Youth’ – was originally founded in 2000 as a soccer club by Enouce Ndeche who today is the organisation’s Executive Director.\r\n\r\nHaving witnessed the multitude of social and economic challenges faced by young people in Nairobi’s slums coupled with the huge popularity of soccer in Kenya, an idea was born: to use the sport as a tool for social development.\r\n\r\nSince those early days, Vijana Amani Pamoja – or VAP – has grown into a strong, community-based-organisation, located in the heart of the Eastlands area of Nairobi which is home to numerous slums and high poverty areas. VAP’s original beneficiaries are now leaders within the organisation which reaches thousands of vulnerable young people each year.\r\n\r\nThe organisation's mission is to integrate social and economic values through soccer by creating a pro-active health environment, and its' vision is a society that is healthy and socially and economically empowered. \r\n\r\nToday, the organisation delivers three soccer-inspired programs addressing HIV/AIDS, female empowerment and corruption in Kenya in Nairobi schools and community centres.\r\n\r\nEach program, lasting between three and six months, takes a two-pronged approach; firstly, participants are educated and informed on relevant health and social issues. Secondly, the self-esteem and confidence of participants are actively built to enable them to put their new found knowledge into action, making positive choices and resisting peer pressure.\r\n\r\nPrograms are delivered by peer educators, many of whom are local soccer stars, who act as role models.",

They wanted to give Surinamese children the opportunity to experience something new, to be inspired, and to broaden their horizon. The first exhibition was about the Ashanti in Ghana. In 2011, the second exhibition about India started, which saw over 22.000 visitors. The China exhibition that opened in 2013 has been very well-received, and its tours for school children during weekdays have been fully booked up to a year ahead. The museum's interactive exhibitions invite children to learn about other cultures, follow their curiosity and develop their creativity.",

Sri A.L. Narasimha Murthy, the pioneer conceived the idea of establishing a service society after being inspired by the Gandhian concept of “Grama Swaraj”. The multi sectoral activities, which the organization aims at include economic development, social upliftment, improving health, sanitary conditions and literacy status besides protecting the environment with all its Bio-diversity. \r\n\r\nTo begin with, the VJNNS undertook activities relating to Khadi and Village Industries. Later on the organization extended its activity towards ensuring water supply besides land development. The organization is privileged to enrich itself with its partnership with 22 International and 20 local agencies, which include the Govt. of India for grounding various development and welfare activities, which are in tune with the basic objectives of the organization.
