"description": "Twaweza means 'we can make it happen' in Swahili. It is a ten year citizen-centered initiative, focusing on large-scale change in East Africa. Twaweza believes that lasting change requires bottom-up action. We seek to foster conditions and expand opportunities through which millions of people can get information and make change happen in their own communities directly and by holding government to account.\r\n\r\nTwaweza works to provide practical information to everyone, to foster quality independent media and citizen monitoring services. By addressing these issues through its partner organizations, Twaweza works to foster what it calls an 'ecosystem of change,' through building on, as well as triggering, the actions of citizens to make a difference. Twaweza has three core areas: brokering partnerships, Uwazi, and learning and communication.",

"description": "Tweed Shire covers 1303 square kilometres and adjoins the NSW shires of Byron, Lismore and Kyogle, with the NSW/Queensland border to its north where it divides the twin towns of Tweed Heads and Coolangatta.\r\n\r\nWith 37 kms of natural coastline, wetlands and estuarine forests, lush pastoral and farm land, the entire basin of the Tweed River, and mountainous regions containing three world-heritage listed national parks, Tweed boasts a unique and diverse environment.\r\n\r\nCentrepiece of the Shire is Mount Warning, where the sun first hits the Australian continent. The surrounding McPherson, Tweed, Burringbar and Nightcap ranges form the caldera of the fertile Tweed Valley.\r\n\r\nPrior to European settlement, the area was blanketed in sub-tropical forest and was home to the Nganduwal/Minjungbal people. Many of the Shire’s towns and villages derive their names from the language of the local Aboriginal people.\r\n\r\nThe retail, hospitality, agricultural and tourism industries are major employers, while construction, fishing, and light industry are other significant contributors to the local economy.",

Twestival Local takes place in cities around the world : 10-13 September 2009.\r\n\r\nNorrköping Twestival, held September 13, at Kulturhuset, Trädgårdsgatan 37, 16 to 23, consists of two parts, held in a laid-back café setting. First, a Conversation Café, with three presenters and conversation starters: Thomas Bjelkeman (co-founder of Akvo), Anna Lindberg (journalist at Östgöta Correspondenten - \"Corren\" - and former regional TV talkshow host at SVT Eftersnack) and Thomas Selig (running Penseo, an ICT company supporting NGOs and Charities with web solutions and social media strategies), supporting a conversation touching charities, media, journalism, world improvement and how the web can stimulate social and societal change as some themes, intertwined. Last, a DJ Café with Alex \"A2R\" Wigforss and Jimmy \"Dunn\" Landby, residents and driving forces of club concept FLO organized by NEMCOM, Norrköping Electronic Music Community.\r\n\r\nWater and sanitation project of choice for this specific fundraising event is to protect the water supply of Tbilisi, Georgia, organized by Rural Communities Development Agency, RCDA, in the field, with support partner Women in Europe for a Common Future in the Netherlands.",

"description": "UDPK, a GDRL deployment site, is an umbrella organization for DPOs in Kenya.\r\nFrom January 2012 through March 2013, UDPK ran a project to support the implementation of Article 29 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which promotes the rights of people with disabilities to participate in public life, including the right to vote and to run for office.\r\n UDPK identified aspirants with disabilities who intended to run for various national, county, or nominative seats. They provided training on campaign and communication in readiness for general elections. This included a particular emphasis on assisting women with disabilities aspiring to run or be nominated for political office with special training and with linking them to other institutions..\r\nUDPK examined election-related policies, and met with political parties, to ensure they helped enhance the participation of people with disabilities. They took part in the elections observation process.\r\nKenya has at least 12 members of parliament and about 71 members of the various county assemblies in the country who are people with disabilities.",

We are on the ground in 177 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.\r\n\r\nWorld leaders have pledged to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, including the overarching goal of cutting poverty in half by 2015. UNDP's network links and coordinates global and national efforts to reach these Goals. Our focus is helping countries build and share solutions to the challenges of:\r\n\r\nDemocratic Governance\r\nPoverty Reduction\r\nCrisis Prevention & Recovery\r\nEnvironment & Energy\r\nHIV/AIDS\r\n\r\nUNDP helps developing countries attract and use aid effectively. In all our activities, we encourage the protection of human rights, capacity development and the empowerment of women.\r\n\r\nThe annual Human Development Report, commissioned by UNDP, focuses the global debate on key development issues, providing new measurement tools, innovative analysis and often controversial policy proposals. The global Report's analytical framework and inclusive approach carry over into regional, national and local Human Development Reports, also supported by UNDP.\r\n\r\nIn each country office, the UNDP Resident Representative normally also serves as the Resident Coordinator of development activities for the United Nations system as a whole. Through such coordination, UNDP seeks to ensure the most effective use of UN and international aid resources.",

"description": "UNHCO was conceived by a group of Ugandans drawn from various professional disciplines who share common concerns and a vision of a health sector that provides quality health care for the mutual benefit of both providers and consumers.\r\n\r\nSince its inception in 1999, UNHCO has been implementing programmes that advocate for a strong institutionalized platform that is able to articulate voices of consumers of health goods and services. UNHCO has championed the Rights Based Approach (RBA) to healthcare delivery and contributed to efforts to improve community participation and accountability.\r\n\r\nThe focus is on the most vulnerable persons including women, PwDs, children, and PLWHA.\r\n\r\nThe strategy is through;\r\n\r\n- Raising awareness among health service users, providers and policy makers about health rights and responsibilities.\r\n- Policy research, Advocacy and review processes to address access, equity, quality and accountability.\r\n- Creating synergies with other CSOs, relevant Government departments, development partners and strategic allies and establishing a credible working partnership with the media among others.\r\n- Feedback to promote and improve communication between users and providers by strengthening referral and redress mechanisms and building a partnership for conflict resolution.\r\n",

"description": "UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized. We have the global authority to influence decision-makers, and the variety of partners at grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. That makes us unique among world organizations, and unique among those working with the young.\r\n\r\nWe believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. We believe that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity.\r\n\r\nWe advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.\r\n\r\nWe promote girls’ education – ensuring that they complete primary education as a minimum – because it benefits all children, both girls and boys. Girls who are educated grow up to become better thinkers, better citizens, and better parents to their own children.\r\n\r\nWe act so that all children are immunized against common childhood diseases, and are well nourished, because it is wrong for a child to suffer or die from a preventable illness.\r\n\r\n\r\n\"For Every Child\" is a UNICEF video which highlights the importance of realizing children's rights as foreseen in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.\r\nWe work to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among young people because it is right to keep them from harm and enable them to protect others. We help children and families affected by HIV/AIDS to live their lives with dignity.\r\n\r\nWe involve everyone in creating protective environments for children. We are present to relieve suffering during emergencies, and wherever children are threatened, because no child should be exposed to violence, abuse or exploitation.\r\n\r\nUNICEF upholds the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We work to assure equality for those who are discriminated against, girls and women in particular. We work for the Millennium Development Goals and for the progress promised in the United Nations Charter. We strive for peace and security. We work to hold everyone accountable to the promises made for children.\r\n\r\nWe are part of the Global Movement for Children – a broad coalition dedicated to improving the life of every child. Through this movement, and events such as the United Nations Special Session on Children, we encourage young people to speak out and participate in the decisions that affect their lives. \r\n\r\nWe are active in more than 190 countries and territories through country programmes and National Committees. We are UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund.",
