In that view, water is a key element. Given its expertise in this field, PROTOS particularly stands up for equitable, sustainable and participatory water management in the North and the South.\r\nEquitable water management assumes solidarity amongst all users, whereby each individual has the right to sufficient water quantities for a well-balanced human development.\r\nSustainable water management seeks to optimally use the available water sources without threatening the other users, the environment or the future.\r\nParticipatory water management requires the involvement of each individual and community, including disadvantaged groups, providing the opportunity for them to take control of their own future. In this, a fair gender balance has to be respected.\r\nPROTOS wants to achieve these objectives by:\r\n- Supporting participatory development programmes in the South: via an improvement of access to water, and of distribution and/or valorisation of water, PROTOS aims to improve the socio-economic situation of the local population.\r\n- Being a lever: by strengthening the capacities, the vision and the position of organisations that are able to capitalize on the knowledge fostered by these programmes and capable of making profit of this knowledge in the future.\r\n- Stimulating the cooperation between all parties involved in the planning and implementation of local development, including the civil society organisations and the local authorities.\r\n- Stimulating the debate on the equitable, sustainable and participatory water resources management in both the North and the South. Its current programs focus on three thematic areas: Governance & Human Rights, Sustainable Livelihoods & Health, and Humanitarian Support Services. We also have a business arm through the Private Sector Engagement in Development, where we work with various transnational companies for community relations services, training on human rights framework and various other needs. LITE-Africa advances these thematic areas through:\nProgrammes: LITE-Africa develops and implements high impact, community centered programmes. Each of its programmes builds off past programmes to strengthen, expand, deepen and implement lessons learned. This approach allows beneficiaries to gain maximum returns from its programmes. Its existing programmes add value to its donors because of its wide reach and measurable outcomes; this also allows it to inform the work of policy makers, government officials and oil companies (with respect to corporate social responsibility). In addition to this, it will continue to develop and implement new and innovative programmes in the various areas.\nResearch and Development: The high impact programmes which LITE-Africa implements at the community level are use as a tool to inform policy nationally and internationally. Its expertise has allowed it to produce assessments of existing development policies and practices; these assessments have been key in stimulating national dialogue and strengthening government transparency and accountability. Moreover, its expertise allows it to produce policy briefs, opinion editorials and media content using the Niger Delta as a case study in developing effective community level programmes within and beyond the Niger Delta. The founding aim of DAM is the social and spiritual development of the human community at large. DAM made paradigm shift in the mid-seventies from welfare to development approach with programme operation primarily in education and human development sectors. Since that time DAM has been diversifying its development interventions with expansion of programme coverage both geographically and in population. With its multifaceted and diversified programmes and activities DAM is now in a very unique position to work with the people, particularly the disadvantaged, with need-based services toward improvement of their living conditions.\r\n\r\nDhaka Ahsania Mission launched first community learning centre, locally known as Gonokendra, in 1987. The centre is meant for lifelong learning and community development. There are more than 100 Gonokendras across the country, of which five are ICT-based. As the objectives of the centres were sharing knowledge and information, they started with traditional tools. Each of the centres is functioning as a community-based information centre of local GO-NGO extension departments. People can come to the centres to read newspapers and exchange experience, learn from success stories, get information about innovations, which can improve their livelihoods. A few centres started using computer for interactive information communication. However, these centres do not have any Internet connection.\r\n\r\nVision: The vision of DAM is a society of people, the disadvantaged population groups/communities in particular, free from poverty, experiencing a social transformation for fulfillment of basic rights and having an improved social, economic and spiritual living.\r\n\r\nMain area of focus:\r\nICT for Development (ICT4D)\r\nTraining , Capacity building, Material development & resources mobilisation\r\nEducation\r\nLivelihood Development\r\nHealth\r\nHuman Rights\r\n\r\nKey Activities:\r\nNon-formal Education, Literacy and Continuing Education\r\nEstablishment of a Science & Technology University\r\nEstablishment of a modern Cancer & General Hospital\r\nVocational/Skills Training\r\nFood security and Agriculture\r\nMicrocredit\r\nWater, Sanitation and Public Health\r\nAnti drug and tobacco movement\r\nAccess Health and empowerment\r\nResearch\r\nTraining and material development\r\nAnti human trafficking movement\r\nDisaster risk reduction\r\nClimetchange issues\r\nChild and adolescent protection\r\n\r\nGeographic coverage (District wise): More tha two third of the country including Dhaka, Manikganj, Gazipur, Narsindi, Mymensing, Jamalpur, Kishoreganj, Panchagar, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Sherpur, Netrokona, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Moulivibazar, Kushtia, Meherpur, Jhenidah, Chuadanga, Jessore, Satkhira, Barisal, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Barguna, Bhola, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chittagong, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Banderban\r\n\r\nTarget groups: \r\nOut of School Children and Adults\r\nUnskilled Manpower\r\nDisaster Prone Population\r\nHIV/AIDS Victims\r\nWoman and children vulnerable to trafficking and violence\r\nPeople in hard to reach areas\r\n\r\nAffiliation and membership:\r\nBangladesh Telecentre Network (BTN)\r\nMember, Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC\r\nMember, Operational Relationship with UNESCO\r\nMember, Associate Status with UNDPI\r\nMember, Asia-South Pacific Bureau of Adult Education\r\nMember, International Council of Adult Education\r\nMember, APPEAL Resource & Training Consortium.\r\n", "notes": "Org duplicates 1705 and 1805 deleted. The Network brings together 15 Associations which represent roughly 9000 local authorities, directly elected by more than 80 million citizens of this region. The NALAS Secretariat, based in Skopje, is responsible for the overall coordination and the implementation of the activities.\r\n\r\nNALAS was created in 2001 following the first Forum of Cities and Regions of South-East Europe (Skopje, November 2000), organised by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The Network was established under the auspices of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe (Working Table 1) and the Council of Europe. During the first years, NALAS functioned as an informal organisation with regular meetings, seminars and training programmes. In July 2005 NALAS became an officially registered association with its seat in Strasbourg. The NALAS Secretariat was established in March 2007.\r\n\r\nNALAS promotes the process of decentralisation in cooperation with central governments and international organisations, considering local self-government as a key issue in the current process of transition affecting the various countries in South-East Europe. NALAS builds partnerships in order to contribute to the reconciliation and stabilisation process in the region and henceforth contributes to the process of the European integration of the whole region.\r\n\r\nNALAS initiates and carries out regional initiatives for its members and helps the associations to become viable representatives of local authorities vis-а-vis central government.
