London Child and Youth Care Centre have been in existence since 1924. In the early years, emphasis was placed on custodial care, i.e. feeding, clothing, education and housing the orphans of war. The Home was in the Malcomess House, which was run as a large institution.\r\n\r\nTwenty-Two years ago, the Children’s Home acquired 5 houses in areas around the city. The children are now housed in group-homes, to create a hild-friendly environment. They range in ages from birth to 18 years. Each home can care for approximately 11 to 13 children. Most of the children in care are from disadvantaged communities, or dysfunctional families, and have been severely neglected; these include our HIV positive children. On average, there are around 121 children in full-time care.\r\n\r\nThe services of the East London Child and Youth Care Centre have developed over the last 84 years from purely residential care programmes to include community-based programmes focused on prevention and early intervention. A child should only be institutionalised as a last resort, and the emphasis is on keeping the child in his/her own environment.\r\n\r\nIn the nearby Fort Grey informal settlement, the Ubuntu Care, Development and Empowerment Centre was established in 1999. The centre provides a one-stop facility, where the community can come for support, guidance and assistance when in crisis (rape, drug abuse, violence, family problems, etc.). The centre provides aftercare facilities for children from the Sinomonde, Fort Grey and Santa Primary schools. A childcare in schools programme is operating in Willow Park School and Fort Grey Primary. An HTA Project (High Transmission Area) is also provided in this area. The Isibindi programme was launched in Fort Grey and Ncera Village three in March 2008.\r\n\r\nIn March 2008 the directors of the House on the Rock Section 21 Company approached the East London Child and Youth Care center to assist in managing the Centre. After consultation with the Department of Social Development it was agreed that we would manage the center until a long-term solution was found.\r\n\r\nThe services and programmes offered are diverse and adapted to the needs of the community served by the East London Child and Youth Care Centre. The Centre aims to not duplicate services, but network with existing organisations where possible in order to provide comprehensive services throughout the community.", "notes": "", The organisation is also registered as a Community Based Development Organisation with the Community Development Department of Kibaale District. Emesco Development Foundation is governed by a Board comprised of five (5) members who are professionals from various development fields. The Board is the supreme decision making body of the organisation.\r\n\r\nThe day-to-day management of Emesco Development Foundation is headed by the Executive Director who together with the Heads of Departments (Agriculture, Health, Finance and Water ) form the management team.\r\nEmesco Development Foundation has continued to grow with its portfolio of activities spreading to many communities. Well over 165,000 rural poor people now benefit from her work. New donors have come on board to support her work and it has been admitted to a number of National Membership Organisations like the Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET). \r\n\r\nEmesco Development Foundation exists to efficiently and effectively provide, support, promote and implement integrated community development services that aim at improving the livelihood security situation of the rural poor, the disadvantaged and the marginalised in Kibaale District so that they can live a dignified and better quality of life. The public health school's location in Atlanta, referred to as the \"Public Health Capital of the World,\" is also home to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; CARE; the national home office of the American Cancer Society; The Carter Center; the Arthritis Foundation; numerous state and regional health agencies; and the patient care, teaching, and health-related research programs of Emory University's Woodruff Health Sciences Center. This setting is ideal for hands-on research, collaborations with the world's leading public health agencies, and interdisciplinary work with national and international organizations.\n\nOur public health graduate program is community oriented, and many students bring actual problem-solving experiences with them. Students join the Rollins community from all 50 states and from more than 40 foreign countries to contribute to the school and apply knowledge to promote health and prevent disease in human populations.\n\nOur top-ranked public health program comprises six academic departments: behavioral sciences and health education, biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, health policy and management, and global health, and hosts over two dozen interdisciplinary centers. More than 200 full-time, doctoral-level faculty members teach and conduct research in areas such as mathematical modeling of infectious disease transmission, exploring relationships between nutrition and chronic disease, and investigating cancer causation and control. Other research interests include identifying the social determinants of health-risk behaviors, AIDS, developing church-based health promotion programs to foster changes in nutrition and other health-related behaviors, detecting and preventing adverse outcomes in occupational settings, and evaluating the cost of health care and the allocation of health resources.\n\nThe Rollins School of Public Health offers dual-degree programs with Emory's business, medical, nursing, and law schools. In addition to these programs, the schools of public health and medicine collaborate on many levels. Research areas of mutual interest include nutrition, Alzheimer's disease, and the prevention and control of AIDS, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and adverse reproductive outcomes. In conjunction with The Emory Clinic, physicians from the environmental and occupational health department have created a diagnostic and evaluation facility for people exposed to environmental health hazards. The school also houses a residency program in occupational medicine.\n\nRollins draws strength from several unique local resources. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the federal agency dedicated to developing and applying disease prevention and control programs, provides more than one-half of the school's more than 300 adjunct faculty.
