"description": "Started as a humble initiative in 1989 by graduates of the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS) in Chitwan, Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) has now significantly expanded to become one of the largest, fastest growing and respected Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Nepal. Working among underprivileged communities of rural Nepal, RRN has been implementing integrated community development programmes and projects at the grassroots level and policy advocacy, lobbying and networking at local, national, and international levels.\r\n\r\nRRN embraces a two-pronged approach for its development intervention: (i) Working with peasant people by implementing integrated community development projects and action-oriented research focusing on the poorest and most vulnerable people/groups in rural areas and (ii) Policy research, advocacy, campaign and lobbying at the local, national, and international levels on the root causes of poverty; the problems of the resource poor; and social, economic, and cultural rights; and the right to development and environmental degradation.\r\n\r\nRRN is the only national NGO with extended capacity and development outreach that has successfully implemented various result-oriented, rights-based, integrated community development initiatives addressing the frustrated expectations of the poor, marginalised, vulnerable and conflict affected people. RRN has a proven track record of its engagement for economic, social and cultural rights and right to development by implementing pro-people development programmes, facilitating to exercise the community owned and managed integrated approaches, especially in the conflict sensitive societies.\r\n\r\nAll development programmes of RRN focus on the fourfold approach of Rural Reconstruction as the foundation upon which its programme and project activities are based on:\r\n• Education: to combat illiteracy and ignorance and provide exposure to the outside world\r\n• Sustainable livelihoods: to fight poverty and hunger\r\n• Health: to prevent disease and promote rights to health\r\n• Self-Government: to overcome civic inertia through institutional development leading to self-reliance\r\n\r\nSince 1997, RRN has enjoyed the Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations and is also accredited to the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Currently, it is hosting the Secretariat of Right to Food Network, Secretariat of the South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE) – a South Asia regional alliance of mass based civil society organisations and individuals and the International Secretariat of LDC Watch. They represent several of RRN’s civil society alliances with which RRN is associated to fight against poverty and hunger and for the realization of human rights, social justice, democracy and peace. At National level, RRN is being actively engaged in policy lobby and advocacy campaigns through Right to Food Network (RtF) , Children as Zone of Peace and Child protection (CZOPP), Anti-trafficking Alliance for Women and Children in Nepal (AATWIN), Civil Society Alliance for Nutrtion in Nepal (CSANN) and Disaster Preparedness Network(DPNet) for promoting disaster resilient communities through building and reconstructing the earthquake and disaster resilient infrastructures in its programme and projects. \r\n\r\nOver the past 24 years, RRN has been promoting democratic participation and inclusive self-government, enhancing empowerment of and ownership by the local communities. As one of the vital components of its programmes, RRN encourages and facilitates people to build their own organizations and institutions for their own development. Such people’s groups form the building blocks for bottom up organizational development and promote genuine participation in the development process. Adhering to stated purpose, RRN has established and strengthened thousands of Community Based Organiztions (CBOs) such as Citizen Awareness Centers (CACs), Peace Promotion Centers (PPCs), Users Group, People’s Forum and Community Learning Centers (CLCs).",

AVINA is a Latin American organization that contributes to sustainable development in Latin America by encouraging productive alliances based on trust among social and business leaders, and by brokering consensus around shared agendas for action, with the support of people and institutions from around the world. It has several programs called Opportunities of Continental Relevance, one of which is the \"Water Access Program\" that seeks to help that 5 million people more in Latin America have access to water in the next three years. To do that, AVINA is working with hundreds of local organizations in 14 countries, called Community Water Boards, which are providing water to millions of people, utilizing democratic means of governance and decision-making. By supporting them in several ways, AVINA believes that they will be able to increase the number of people served with access to water. AVINA is also working in alliance with other international organizations such as CARE International, Water for People, Water Advocates, Global Water Partnerships, Water and Youth Movement, and AKVO, among others. \r\n ",

"description": "World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.\r\n\r\nWe serve close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world. World Vision serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.\r\n\r\nWorld Vision works in impoverished, mostly rural areas to provide potable water, improved sanitation, and hygiene education (WASH) so that waterborne illness decreases, health improves, and the burden on women and children is lessened by reducing the distance to water sources. World Vision’s programs include the voices of the poorest members of the community. We work with community leaders to solicit the participation of members of both genders, people of varying ages (from children through the elderly), and those with disabilities and illnesses.\r\n\r\nOver the past 27 years, World Vision has provided 12 million people with the many benefits of clean water. We are now dramatically scaling up our WASH programs, with the goal of reaching 1 million beneficiaries per year. As one of the leading WASH nongovernmental organizations globally in both funding and footprint, World Vision invests about $90 million per year to operate WASH programs in 57 countries.",

Home of Hope is made up of different houses, where small groups of children live under the supervision of their ‘house parents’. There are currently 90 children living at Home of Hope. \r\n\r\nThe progress that the children make at Home of Hope is enormous and so rewarding. When they arrive they are very often scared and traumatised by their past – you only have to look into their eyes to see their pain. After a while you will see huge changes – their confidence grows and big smiles soon replace tears. Most of all they learn how to become children again. ",

The Historic Shipwrecks Act applies to Australian waters that extend from the low tide mark to the end of the continental shelf and is administered in collaboration between the Commonwealth and the States, Northern Territory and Norfolk Island. Some Australian shipwreck sites lie within protected or no-entry zones.\r\n\r\nThe Historic Shipwrecks Act is delivered through the Historic Shipwrecks Program. Its objectives are to research, explore, document and protect Australia's historic shipwreck heritage. "description": "The Bernard van Leer Foundation funds and shares knowledge about work in early childhood development. The foundation was established in 1949 and is based in the Netherlands. Our income is derived from the sale of Royal Packaging Industries Van Leer N.V., bequeathed to the foundation by Dutch industrialist and philanthropist Bernard van Leer (1883 to 1958, pictured). (More about our history and income).\r\n\r\nOur mission is to improve opportunities for children up to age 8 who are growing up in socially and economically difficult circumstances. We see this both as a valuable end in itself and as a long-term means to promoting more cohesive, considerate and creative societies with equal opportunities and rights for all. \r\n\r\nOur grantmaking works primarily through supporting programmes implemented by local partners in selected countries. Our partners include public, private and community-based organisations. Working through partnerships is intended to build local capacity, promote innovation and flexibility, and help to ensure that the work we fund is culturally and contextually appropriate.\r\n\r\nWe also aim to leverage our impact by working with influential allies to advocate for young children. Our free publications share lessons we have learned from our own grantmaking activities and feature agenda-setting contributions from outside experts. Through our publications and advocacy, we aim to inform and influence policy and practice not only in the countries where we operate but globally.",

"description": "Georgia became the 179th member of the United Nations in July 1992, thereby accepting the values and principles of the organization. The Office of the United Nations in Georgia was established in 1993. Since then, the country has been home to UN agencies, funds, and programmes that work as a team to respond to national development needs and improve the economic and social conditions of people in Georgia.\r\n\r\nThe resident UN agencies form the UN Country Team (UNCT), which is led by the UN Resident Coordinator who also serves as the Resident Representative for UN Development Programme (UNDP).\r\n\r\nUnited Nations Development Programme is the UN’s global development network to help people meet their development needs and build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working as a trusted partner with governments, civil society and the private sector to help them build their own solutions to global and national development challenges.\r\n\r\nOur UN identity ensures our neutrality and our respect for each country’s control over the future. Our commitment to development makes us advocates of change, and our wide, decentralized presence keeps UNDP close to development issues, resources and thinking. Countries draw on the knowledge not just of the people of UNDP but also of our broad circle of partners, together encompassing a world of development experience.\r\n\r\nUNDP established its presence in Georgia in 1993. We work to promote national development and set our priorities in agreement with the Georgian Government.\r\n\r\nClosely cooperating with national institutions, civil society and the private sector, UNDP assists Georgia in four major areas:\r\n- Democratic Governance,\r\n- Economic Development,\r\n- Environment and Energy, and\r\n- Crisis Prevention and Recovery.\r\n\r\nIn all its activities, UNDP seeks to promote the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.",

In particular, the work of the group is focused on mobility (including tourism, leisure and migration studies) and the cultural politics of landscape (including questions of place, community, and heritage) in relation to spatial theory. A third area of interest is the intersection between people, nature, culture and landscape\r\nOne of the main research projects of the chair group, coordinated by Prof. René van der Duim, focuses on the relation between tourism, development and conservation in sub-Saharan Africa. \r\n",
