IWRM Diploma/MSc. programme\r\nThe concept of IWRM has come to the forefront and is embraced by the government of Yemen. This approach considers the water crisis as a multidimensional socio-economic challenge and advocates multidisciplinary solutions in water management in addition to purely technical approaches.\r\n\r\n The programme is financed by the Dutch government (Nuffic/NPT programme 2004-2008) and given by a group of Yemeni specialists supported by lecturers from Wageningen University/Netherlands, the Technical University Delft/Netherlands and Cairo University/Egypt and the support of the private companies MetaMeta (Wageningen/Netherlands) and Arcadis/Euroconsult (Arnhem/Netherlands). It has a total length of two years divided into four semesters and directed to students in the water sector in Yemen and the Arab region.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n2. Training (short courses):\r\n\r\n WEC offers tailor-made training courses targeting directly the need of specific organizations/groups of individuals actively involved in the water and environment sectors. Friendship identifies and reaches the poorest of the poor and the most marginalised communities.\r\n\r\nOur flagship project is the Lifebuoy Friendship Hospital (LFH) an oil barge converted to a floating hospital to provide healthcare to 4 million of Bangladesh's most marginalised people. With an aim to provide essential basic services in the most inaccessible and hard to reach areas, Friendship initially focused on the chars (nomadic islands) and riverbank areas of northern Bangladesh; places where there was no basic healthcare or education offered by either government or non-governmental organisations. Over time we expanded from providing primary and secondary healthcare to education, income generation, relief and rehabilitation programmes, and, most recently, interest-free loans and savings schemes.\r\nFrom our emergency relief work, especially after cyclone Sidr in November 2007, stemmed our focus and subsequent activities in the southern part of Bangladesh. In recent years, the communities that we work with are seeing the worst effects of climate change such as seasons drastically changing and crippling agriculture, increasing floods and land erosion in the north, and increasing sea level and salinity in the south. To successfully support people who are having to shift their homes two to three times a year, losing their traditional source of livelihood, and their land, our programmes have had to integrate the effects of climate change in order for them to be effective. Like a fair or a circus, de Parade has been touring the Netherlands and abroad for 21 years, descending on the nicest parks and squares in town. Depending on the prospective public, de Parade will stay in town for 10 or 17 days. De Parade is the only travelling theatre festival in the world and has been set up like a circus turned inside-out, with the audience in the centre and the artists around them. The result is an irresistible live panorama of theatre, dance, music, art, entertainment, magic, curiosities, attractions and shows. This colourful collection of theatre tents, fountain tents, the chairoplane and the global restaurants make the de Parade festival site resemble an old-fashioned fair ground.\r\n\r\nEvery year the de Parade programme is like a refreshingly theatrical maze. The public can choose from a selection of performances usually produced especially for de Parade and shown simultaneously on the festival site. The length of the shows varies from three to sixty minutes. Every performance is repeated several times each night. There is also an extensive children's parade. In this way, everybody can plan their own day full of culture, art, theatre and music. The programme is made up of dozens of programmes and attractions. The artists try to influence the public by presenting free and attractive de Parade acts on the stage in front of their tents, like the bonisseurs (showmen) who used to draw the public's attention to their shows at the annual fairs in the Middle Ages. Their act was called 'holding a parade'.
