Through service learning projects, U.S. schools raise funds necessary to complete water projects, thereby bringing water to their partner schools. These funds are matched dollar for dollar, magnifying the good done with every contribution.\r\n\r\nAnother outcome, as important as water funding to our mission, is for youth in U.S. schools to learn about and become invested in the global community, and to become activists for positive change.\r\n\r\nThe sustainability of these and other service projects depends on the next generation’s involvement. We need to provide opportunities for students to make a difference, and H2O for Life exists to do just that.\r\n\r\nGlobal projects are identified and facilitated through cooperating Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s). To date, Save the Children, Water Centric, Student Movement for Real Change, El Porvenir, and Catholic Relief Service have partnered with H20 for Life and match funds raised by individual schools.\r\n\r\nUnited States schools select a project and then work during the school year to reach their fundraising goals. During the year, teachers and students may choose to communicate with students in the project community via letters or pictures.\r\n\r\nIf you’re a U.S. teacher, school administrator, or engaged parent and think students in your community might be able to help, learn how to Partner With a School.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 268, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 171, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 655, "latitude": 43.6525, "longitude": -79.381667, "city": "Toronto", "state": "Ontario", "address_1": "c/o A.T. They needed access to the most appropriate technologies, to outside funding and to expertise, none of which were available within the traditional Rotary structure.\r\n\r\nMost important, it became apparent to Rotarians and to potential funding partners that the original Rotary model - many small projects with limited community involvement or empowerment - would not have the impact many Rotarians were seeking. Nor could the supply-driven focus of many clubs achieve any significant degree of sustainability.\r\n\r\nTo fulfill this mandate Wasrag’s goals are to:\r\n\r\n- Create awareness among Rotarians of the importance of conservation and sustainability and of local and global water issues;\r\n- Raise awareness of the need for, and benefits of, safe water and sanitation;\r\n- Develop a compendium of best practices to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness;\r\n- Distribute information on appropriate technologies for supplying, conserving and purifying water and for sanitation;\r\n- Build and encourage mutually beneficial relationships with other organizations, corporations, agencies and NGOs sharing common water and sanitation related goals;\r\n- Identify alternative sources of financing to complement The Rotary Foundation e.g. private foundations, corporations, government agencies;\r\n- Assist in identifying and formulating programs and projects that will promote sustainability; Implement mechanisms to determine the effectiveness of projects;\r\n- Create a network of experts accessible to Rotarians and Rotary clubs;\r\n- Provide training and education on water/sanitation technologies and issues;\r\n- Facilitate the exchange of information via a web-based forum a forum;\r\n- Establish a bibliography of relevant materials, references etc.;\r\n- Give information on relevant conferences;\r\n- Act as advocates on water issues;\r\n- Support Rotary clubs seeking financial and/or technical assistance;\r\n- Foster “Centers of Excellence” on water/sanitation;\r\n- Operate a web-site and produce regular newsletters or bulletins;\r\n- Implement procedures to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness;\r\n\r\nWasrag was authorized by Rotary International to carry out this mission in February 2004 and was officially launched on World Water Day, March 22nd, 2007 at the National Press Club in New York. Since then it has facilitated well over 200 projects—helping clubs find partners, helping to ensure sustainability, stressing the importance of a needs-driven approach, developing best practices, encouraging a holistic, integrated approach in which water is not the end in itself but is rather the means to a better life and livelihood in the community.\r\n\r\nMost importantly it links water and sanitation to personal hygiene, better health, empowering the community (especially women), irrigation and agriculture, education and literacy and, ultimately, child mortality. One concrete example is through building bridges between communities in the US and villages in Burkina by connecting schools, youth groups, women's associations, faith-based organizations, businesses, artists and civic leaders in order for our gifts to be shared with each other.\r\n", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 77, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 282, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 467, "latitude": 40.439918, "longitude": -80.003562, "city": "Pittsburgh", "state": "Pennsylvania", "address_1": "One PPG Place", "address_2": "", "postcode": "15272", "iati_country": "US", "country": 5, "location_target": 282 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/b4/12/b4125f447c7efaee0ee75cea958b631c.jpg", "latitude": "40.439918", "longitude": "-80.003562", "city": "Pittsburgh", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2010-11-22T10:56:55+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:59.299700+01:00", "name": "PPG Industries", "long_name": "PPG Industries, Inc.", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "C", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 70, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.ppg.com/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+1-412-434-3131", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "", "description": "PPG Industries is a leader in its markets; is a streamlined, efficient manufacturer; and operates on the leading edge of new technologies and solutions. Water access is about more than just installing water systems. It’s about installing the right systems, which might mean water wells, rainwater harvesting, protected springs, or something else entirely. And it’s about helping whole communities and regions have enough safe, accessible, reliable water to significantly improve the lives of the people who live there.\r\n\r\nSanitation\r\nIn places where there is no safe, clean place to go to the toilet, people struggle with disease, lack of privacy, and indignity. Once communities have access to safe, sustainable water, they can improve their sanitation, dramatically raising their quality of life—improving health, increasing school achievement, and multiplying productivity. In many areas, Living Water helps community members develop plans for sanitation that result in clean, functional latrines in homes, schools, clinics, and churches.\r\n\r\nHygiene Promotion\r\nSafe water and sanitation systems are important, but to have an impact, people need to use them effectively to improve their health. Education is important—helping people understand how to prevent diseases by washing their hands, storing their water properly, and using a latrine. But head knowledge is just the beginning; helping communities identify important behaviors and make their own plan to use them is the end goal.\r\n\r\nChristian Witness\r\nOur concern is for whole people—physical and spiritual. As followers of Jesus, we know that he has the power to transform people, restore relationships, and heal factors that lead to poverty, hunger, and thirst. UNDP's network links and coordinates global and national efforts to reach these Goals. The global Report's analytical framework and inclusive approach carry over into regional, national and local Human Development Reports, also supported by UNDP.\r\n\r\nIn each country office, the UNDP Resident Representative normally also serves as the Resident Coordinator of development activities for the United Nations system as a whole. The International Center currently has programs in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The International Center has five programs: the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council Education Forum, the New Forests Project, Veterans International/Cambodia, Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation and IC Sports Corps.\r\n\r\nThe U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council Education Forum (USVTC-EF) has played a major leadership role in building the relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam. USVTC-EF seeks the full normalization of U.S.-Vietnam relations; helps create essential policy frameworks for building a new economic partnership between the two nations; and provides assistance for the establishment of links that increase bilateral trade and investment. USVTC-EF has played a key role in the negotiation and implementation of the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and continues to work closely with Vietnam on next steps in Vietnam's economic integration and development.\r\n\r\nThe New Forests Project (NFP) supports reforestation and agroforestry projects in the developing world that protect and restore natural forests, reverse land degradation and promote land-use practices that increase productivity and sustainability. NFP consists of two protects: the World Seed Program and the Clean Water initiative. The World Seed Program supplies free seeds and other supplies to in-country partners who redistribute the seeds locally. NFP also provides agroforestry trainings, small grants for the purchase of equipment for reforestation efforts among other things. Since 1982, NFP has helped plant over 8 million trees around the globe. The Clean Water Initiative supports local water associations, committees and organizations in their efforts to provide clean, reliable water and sanitation services to rural communities in Central America and the Caribbean.\r\n\r\nVeterans International Cambodia (VIC) assists in the rehabilitation of Cambodians living with disabilities and helps them to lead active, fulfilling lives. VIC' s goal is to support victims of war and poverty who are often living on the margins of society. VIC supports three rehabilitation centers across Cambodia where people with disabilities receive rehabilitation services, prosthetics, orthotics, and other equipment. Patients also have the opportunity to meet with self- help groups and community organizations. These groups allow people with disabilities and their family members to socialize, share their experiences, and build self-confidence. Groups are given microloans to manage and start small, self-sustaining co-op projects such as fish farms or rice banks. Members are encouraged to have a voice and become involved in their community' s development.\r\n\r\nFounded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) is a humanitarian organization that addresses the consequences of war through programs of advocacy and service in Vietnam. VVAF receives grants from the Department of State and other organizations to conduct landmine clearance projects in Vietnam with the Technology Centre for Bomb and Mine Disposal Engineering Command (BOMICEN). VVAF and its project partners carryout surveys to collect information about the prevalence and burden of the most common mental disorders and the effects this has on the individuals and their families. VVAF is also engaged in upgrading and constructing schools in various provinces around Vietnam.\r\n\r\nThe International Center' s Sports Corps Division aims to improve understanding between the people of developing countries and the United States through the medium of youth sports. Our sport exchange programs create a dynamic environment for youth of various SE Asian countries to better understand each other and demonstrate how sports can overcome economic, religious, and geographic differences. These exchange programs, mainly focusing on young women and their coaches, seek to empower, teach, and inspire these women to improve themselves and their communities through sport.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 596, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 1032, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 931, "latitude": 38.898957, "longitude": -77.04256, "city": "Washington D.C", "state": "", "address_1": "1818 H Street, N.W.", "address_2": "", "postcode": "20433", "iati_country": "US", "country": 5, "location_target": 1032 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/2e/44/2e441061a71667563ca5573d19fbdac2.jpg", "latitude": "38.898957", "longitude": "-77.04256", "city": "Washington D.C", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2013-01-16T14:53:43+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:57:03.069476+01:00", "name": "WSP", "long_name": "Water and Sanitation Program", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.wsp.org/about", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+1 (202) 473-5977", "mobile": "", "fax": "+1 (202) 522-3313", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "wsp@worldbank.org", "description": "The Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) is a multi-donor partnership administered by the World Bank to support poor people in obtaining affordable, safe and sustainable access to water and sanitation services.\r\n \r\nWe work directly with client governments at the local and national level in 25 countries through regional offices in Africa, East and South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and in, Washington D.C. \r\n \r\nWSP has led or supported many of the advances made within the water and sanitation sector over the last three decades.
