In the next 25 years, one third of the planet’s population (2,7 billion people) will have to deal with serious water shortage. Our behaviour in The Netherlands has a big impact on water shortage elsewhere on the planet, something a lot of young people will not be aware of.\r\n\r\nThe Watercarriers for Africa are Erik Alblas (32), secondary school teacher of sociology, and Annemieke Plat (28), postwoman. Our goal is to point out the consequences of our consumptive behaviour on the scarcity of water on a global scale, especially to youngsters. On average we use 4000 litres of water a day per person, of which 95% is used in other parts of the world, producing the goods that we buy in our supermarkets. Often these places of production are the same parts of the world in which people are plagued by water scarcity.\r\n\r\nOur activities:\r\n-Starting September of 2012, we will get on our bicycles and cycle from Cape Town to Leiden; a voyage of 20.000 kilometres through some 20 countries. During our trip we will generate media-attention by writing about our experiences of (the effects of) water shortage in the places we come through, and about the shortage that we will undoubtedly experience ourselves, while cycling. We will also visit projects that are aimed at ameliorating access of clean water.\r\n-Various primary schools and colleges follow our progress as we go: we will interact with pupils via e-mail, Skype and films. Alongside, those pupils are provided with an educational programme about the use of water in The Netherlands and in Africa, and the relationship with their own patterns of consumption: what, in practical terms, can they do to reduce their use of water? Also we will generate contact between the Dutch pupils and their contemporaries in the countries we pass through.\r\n-With our trip we will collect for the financial support of local water projects.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 732, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 3548, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [], "logo": null, "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2016-07-25T14:05:50.354694+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2016-07-25T14:05:50.354736+02:00", "name": "WATER CORPORATION OF OYO ", "long_name": "WATER CORPORATION OF OYO STATE", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "", "description": "", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": null, "content_owner": 1004, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 6372, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [], "logo": null, "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2023-03-11T02:11:27.318330+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2023-03-11T02:11:27.318350+01:00", "name": "Water Compass", "long_name": "Water Compass", "language": "en", "organisation_type": null, "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "", "description": "", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": null, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 697, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 663, "latitude": 53.215106, "longitude": 6.580535, "city": "Groningen", "state": "", "address_1": "Griffeweg 99", "address_2": "9723 DV", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "NL", "country": 3, "location_target": 697 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/61/97/61970575923f04b37c0d33ab9f91be46.jpg", "latitude": "53.215106", "longitude": "6.580535", "city": "Groningen", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-06-27T13:28:09+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-03-06T11:50:00.293454+01:00", "name": "Waterbedrijf Groningen", "long_name": "Waterbedrijf Groningen", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "C", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 70, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.waterbedrijfgroningen.nl/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "050 368 86 88", "mobile": "", "fax": "050 312 25 34", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "", "description": "Als maatschappelijke onderneming houdt Waterbedrijf Groningen zich bezig met het duurzaam veiligstellen van waterbelangen in brede zin. At that time it seemed the development indicators were very strong so it was decided WaterAid's efforts could be focused elsewhere. In 2008 WaterAid conducted a scoping study in Kenya and decided that, after ten years away from the country, there were compelling reasons to return. The study found that by establishing a presence in Kenya WaterAid could help to understand and tackle the water and sanitation situation.\r\n\r\nWaterAid's plans:\r\nIn the first instance, we will re-establish WaterAid’s presence in Kenya by registering, recruiting staff and setting up an office. This will then lead to a two year pilot phase, with the development of a programme of work based on a deeper sector analysis and thorough exploration of potential partnerships in Kenya. After the initial two year phase, a review will be conducted and a country strategy developed.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 662, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 529, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 661, "latitude": 9.022736, "longitude": 38.746799, "city": "Addis Ababa", "state": "", "address_1": "P.O.Box 48", "address_2": "", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "ET", "country": 12, "location_target": 529 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/3a/a8/3aa8d5632422e5943d115d9a2ef6c58e.jpg", "latitude": "9.022736", "longitude": "38.746799", "city": "Addis Ababa", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-01-17T16:44:46+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:57:03.256000+01:00", "name": "WaterAid Ethiopia", "long_name": "WaterAid Ethiopia", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.wateraid.org/ethiopia/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+251-114-661680", "mobile": "", "fax": "+251-114-661679", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "", "description": "WaterAid is a leading independent organisation which enables the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.\r\n\r\nWaterAid in Ethiopia works to fund projects that deliver effective, sustainable solutions while providing evidence and experience to influence at national level.\r\nTo date, WaterAid in Ethiopia has funded more than 50 water and sanitation projects and a number of institutional development and capacity building projects. They needed access to the most appropriate technologies, to outside funding and to expertise, none of which were available within the traditional Rotary structure.\r\n\r\nMost important, it became apparent to Rotarians and to potential funding partners that the original Rotary model - many small projects with limited community involvement or empowerment - would not have the impact many Rotarians were seeking. Nor could the supply-driven focus of many clubs achieve any significant degree of sustainability.\r\n\r\nTo fulfill this mandate Wasrag’s goals are to:\r\n\r\n- Create awareness among Rotarians of the importance of conservation and sustainability and of local and global water issues;\r\n- Raise awareness of the need for, and benefits of, safe water and sanitation;\r\n- Develop a compendium of best practices to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness;\r\n- Distribute information on appropriate technologies for supplying, conserving and purifying water and for sanitation;\r\n- Build and encourage mutually beneficial relationships with other organizations, corporations, agencies and NGOs sharing common water and sanitation related goals;\r\n- Identify alternative sources of financing to complement The Rotary Foundation e.g. private foundations, corporations, government agencies;\r\n- Assist in identifying and formulating programs and projects that will promote sustainability; Implement mechanisms to determine the effectiveness of projects;\r\n- Create a network of experts accessible to Rotarians and Rotary clubs;\r\n- Provide training and education on water/sanitation technologies and issues;\r\n- Facilitate the exchange of information via a web-based forum a forum;\r\n- Establish a bibliography of relevant materials, references etc.;\r\n- Give information on relevant conferences;\r\n- Act as advocates on water issues;\r\n- Support Rotary clubs seeking financial and/or technical assistance;\r\n- Foster “Centers of Excellence” on water/sanitation;\r\n- Operate a web-site and produce regular newsletters or bulletins;\r\n- Implement procedures to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness;\r\n\r\nWasrag was authorized by Rotary International to carry out this mission in February 2004 and was officially launched on World Water Day, March 22nd, 2007 at the National Press Club in New York. Since then it has facilitated well over 200 projects—helping clubs find partners, helping to ensure sustainability, stressing the importance of a needs-driven approach, developing best practices, encouraging a holistic, integrated approach in which water is not the end in itself but is rather the means to a better life and livelihood in the community.\r\n\r\nMost importantly it links water and sanitation to personal hygiene, better health, empowering the community (especially women), irrigation and agriculture, education and literacy and, ultimately, child mortality. This has been successful and the association has experienced tremendous growth, with current membership being 58 paid up members. \r\nWASPA has gained relevance in the water sector due to its elaborate network and coordinating role of WSP's, advocacy with the Ministry and other actors in the water sector.\r\n\r\nVision\r\nTo be a world class association promoting provision of quality water and\r\nsewerage services\r\n\r\nMission\r\nTo improve the enabling environment for the members for provision of\r\nsustainable, efficient and effective water and sewerage services by way of\r\nadvocacy, networking, partnerships, capacity building and promotion of best\r\npractices.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 1487, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 87, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 654, "latitude": 23.229391, "longitude": 72.651974, "city": "Gandhinagar", "state": "Gujarat State", "address_1": "3rd Floor, Jalsewa Bhavan", "address_2": "Sector 10-A", "postcode": "382 010", "iati_country": "IN", "country": 2, "location_target": 87 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/a1/61/a16141632efda157745b47f5ea57d78a.jpg", "latitude": "23.229391", "longitude": "72.651974", "city": "Gandhinagar", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2009-02-20T16:49:35+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:57:02.934763+01:00", "name": "WASMO", "long_name": "Water and Sanitation Management Organisation", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "G", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 10, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.wasmo.org/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+91 079 23247170", "mobile": "", "fax": "+91 079 23247485", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "", "description": "WASMO is a facilitating organisation working towards drinking water security and habitat improvement by empowering communities to manage their local water sources, drinking water supply and environmental sanitation.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 654, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 694, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 496, "latitude": 27.722221, "longitude": 85.307608, "city": "Kathmandu", "state": "", "address_1": "GPO Box 23147", "address_2": "", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "NP", "country": 9, "location_target": 694 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/12/99/1299ea0f9db2b09831efa8a3d24a77e2.jpg", "latitude": "27.722221", "longitude": "85.307608", "city": "Kathmandu", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-06-13T15:30:39+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:57:02.927128+01:00", "name": "WASH RCNN", "long_name": "Water, Sanitation and Hygiene -
