"description": "Established in 1987, Tree Aid is a UK‐based international development organization working in the African drylands to tackle poverty and enhance the environment. In West Africa, Tree Aid supports projects in Burkina Faso, Mali, Ghana, and Niger. \r\nIts West Africa office is located in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and its programme of work focuses on four areas: \r\n(i) agroforestry and natural resources management (NRM); \r\n(ii) forest governance; \r\n(iii) enterprise development and trade; and \r\n(iv) food security and nutrition. \r\nTree Aid’s work on NRM includes subcatchment NRM management. In Ghana, for instance, it has supported water buffering and restoration of riverbank under the framework of the Bongo River Trees Project. \r\nAs part of Tree Aid’s approach to delivering long term, sustainable impact, it works closely with policy makers, governments, and local authorities. \r\nTree Aid will be leading WP 1 (subcatchment‐level NRM) with the support of the Burkina Faso National Agency for Integrated Water and Resources Management and WP 8 (policy analysis & influencing) in collaboration with the other DRYDEV Burkina Faso partners and ICRAF.",

"description": "Twestival is a global charity event that takes place in 200+ cities during 10-13 september 2009. All cities choose their own charity organisation for donations.\r\n\r\nA Twestival or Twitter-Festival is a global series of events organized by volunteers around the world under short timescales, which bring people offline for a great cause. Twestival is run 100% by volunteers and independently from any not-for-profit; although the organizing teams do work closely to outline an achievable and measurable fundraising target. Twestival also sets out to identify key skills of volunteers and match these with the needs of the cause; particularly communications strategy, tech integration and social media training. Twestival Local takes place in cities around the world : 10-13 September 2009.\r\n\r\nNorrköping Twestival, held September 13, at Kulturhuset, Trädgårdsgatan 37, 16 to 23, consists of two parts, held in a laid-back café setting. First, a Conversation Café, with three presenters and conversation starters: Thomas Bjelkeman (co-founder of Akvo), Anna Lindberg (journalist at Östgöta Correspondenten - \"Corren\" - and former regional TV talkshow host at SVT Eftersnack) and Thomas Selig (running Penseo, an ICT company supporting NGOs and Charities with web solutions and social media strategies), supporting a conversation touching charities, media, journalism, world improvement and how the web can stimulate social and societal change as some themes, intertwined. Last, a DJ Café with Alex \"A2R\" Wigforss and Jimmy \"Dunn\" Landby, residents and driving forces of club concept FLO organized by NEMCOM, Norrköping Electronic Music Community.\r\n\r\nWater and sanitation project of choice for this specific fundraising event is to protect the water supply of Tbilisi, Georgia, organized by Rural Communities Development Agency, RCDA, in the field, with support partner Women in Europe for a Common Future in the Netherlands.",

"description": "The NSWP was established as an informal alliance in 1990 by a group of sex worker rights activists working within sex work projects around the world. Over the years, NSWP has conducted activities in partnership with other organisations, and the principle of the participation of sex workers in policy and programme development has been accepted at many levels. Despite lacking resources and recognition, the NSWP has influenced policy and built leadership among sex workers and facilitated the development of regional and national networks of sex workers and sex work projects. Significantly, NSWP participation in the global response to HIV/AIDS was largely responsible for the term 'sex worker' replacing 'prostitute'. More than mere political correctness, this shift in language had the important effect of moving global understandings of sex work toward a labour framework which signposts solutions to many of the problems faced by sex workers. It also questions the stigma of sex work and represents greater recognition of sex workers as rights bearers, with the capacity to make a difference. As a result of NSWP advocacy, female, male and transgender sex workers have presented the case for protection of their human rights at international forums such as international and regional conferences on AIDS, the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing 1995, UNGASS, the UNAIDS Programme Co-ordinating Board and the Global Fund consultations. The NSWP successfully lobbied for wording of the UN convention against trafficking in persons (the Palermo Protocol) to ensure that trafficking is defined as including force or coercion. NSWP, along with its regional networks, was also successful in urging UNAIDS to reconsider its 2007 policy guidelines on HIV and sex work.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the NSWP, through its member organisations, published Making Sex Work Safe and a regular journal (Research for Sex Work); maintains global and regional listservs; and manages a website containing some of the most influential and important work on HIV and sex work. The NSWP’s work has been widely acknowledged and NSWP regional networks and members have received various awards.\r\n\r\nFollowing an organisational review completed in 2007, which recommended the NSWP formalise its membership structure, becoming a network of organisations (rather than individuals) and establishing a secretariat in the global north, the Global Network of Sex Work Projects (NSWP) registered as a not-for-profit private company limited by guarantee, with its registered office in Scotland, in October 2008.\r\n\r\nThe Global Network of Sex Work Projects exists to uphold the voice of sex workers globally and connect regional networks advocating for the rights of female, male and transgender sex workers. It advocates for rights based health and social services, freedom from abuse and discrimination, and self determination for sex workers. \r\n\r\nNSWP members are united by common core beliefs and values and are committed to: \r\n- Acceptance of sex work as work\r\n- Opposition to all forms of criminalisation of sex work (including sex workers, clients, management and others related to sex workers)\r\n- Support for self-organisation and self-determination of sex workers\r\n\r\nNSWP is led by sex workers; member organisations are therefore expected to be sex worker-led and to ensure the meaningful participation of sex workers in every level of their organisation. Regions are expected to ensure the voices of female, male and transgender sex workers are heard within their region as well as giving voice to sex workers living with HIV and those using drugs. \r\n\r\nAdditionally all members must be committed to challenging stigma and discrimination, to defending human rights, to challenging policies and practices that negatively affect the lives and health of sex workers, and to promoting rights based services and policies. \r\n \r\nThe NSWP aims are to:\r\n- provide practical information and opportunities for information sharing among organisations and projects which provide services to men, women, and transsexuals who work in the sex industry.\r\n- raise awareness of the health and welfare needs of sex workers. \r\n- advocate at regional and global level for policies and action, which further the human rights of sex workers. These rights include the right to health and a safe working environment free from abuse, violence, and discrimination. \r\n- develop and maintain links between service providers, sex worker organisations and relevant international institutions and agencies. \r\n- facilitate opportunities for the voices of sex workers to be heard in relevant international forums. \r\n\r\nThe NSWP conducts a mix of pro-active and re-active policy advocacy to support human rights and evidence based approaches to female, male and transgendered sex workers and strengthening sex worker communities. The work is arranged around: \r\na) Communications and advocacy. Information relevant to sex workers human rights and health is not sufficiently accessible, particularly for those who do not read English. The NSWP summarises, translates and distributes relevant information to it members and beyond. This is particularly important for places where there are no organised sex workers groups or rights based sex work programmes. Five languages have currently been prioritised - Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. NSWP advocacy is supported by policy analysis, research and consultation with members. \r\nb) Building Capacity and Solidarity - Training and skills building for and among sex worker organisations and leaders is achieved by developing and providing tools, training, space and support on issues such as human rights, health interventions, law and policy, ethics and technologies.",

We do this by establishing sustainable supplies of clean water and safer sanitation provisions. Pump Aid has developed a low-cost, sustainable and appropriate technology, the Elephant Pump and Elephant Toilet, to provide these solutions to water and sanitation. Both of these have won the prestigious St Andrews Prize for the Environment and Pump Aid won the World Bank Market Place award for innovation in 2006.\r\n\r\nThe long-term effects of our work will ensure greater health, gender and economic impact and increased agricultural production. Pump Aid works in Malawi and Zimbabwe; we also have a pilot programme in Liberia.\r\n\r\nWe are currently working on increasing our capacity to do monitoring and evaluation as well as improving our learning from the work we do. We also focus on improving our simple technology to make it more sustainable still through the development of a new model pump.\r\n\r\nDo contact us if you want to know more!",

The Nautical Archaeology Society is a non-government organisation formed to further interest in our under-water cultural heritage. NAS is a registered charity based in the United Kingdom, but with strong links to partner organisations around the world. NAS aims to preserve our archaeological heritage in the marine environment, by acting as a focus for coastal and marine archaeology. To do this NAS needs to involve everyone- divers and non-divers, scientists, historians and anyone with an interest. Our underwater heritage is not renewable, and is at constant threat from natural and human agencies.",

"description": "The Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust (CPAT) is an independent charitable trust which was established in 1975. Its objective is ‘to advance the education of the public in archaeology’, and this is achieved through three interconnected strands of activity.\r\n\r\nThe Historic Environment Management team maintain the regional Historic Environment Record (HER); provide Planning Services for local authorities, developers and other bodies; and undertake Heritage Management work for Welsh Government, local authorities, landowners, developers and others. \r\n\r\nThe Education and Outreach service provides a wide variety of public engagement, participation and social inclusion opportunities for a range of groups and individuals across the Clwyd-Powys region. This includes events and activities for the general public, as well as work targeted specifically at improving social outcomes and economic aspirations.\r\n\r\nThe Investigation and Research team are responsible for the delivery of archaeological projects funded by private- and public-sector bodies, including Welsh Government. This work enhances the knowledge base which supports Cadw decision-making, enables sustainable development across our region, and delivers training and educational outcomes for professionals, non-professionals and the public.\r\n\r\nThe Administration department maintains a strict control on expenditure, and ensures that the operations of the Trust are conducted in an efficient manner. Governance of the Trust is through a Board of Trustees, which normally meets four times per year. Other activities of the Trust are advised by an Ethics Committee, an Investment Committee, and the Board of Directors of the CPAT HER Charitable Trust. CPAT submits publicly-accessible annual accounts to the Charities Commission, and files returns to Companies House. CPAT is a Registered Organisation with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.\r\n",

"description": "Rainbows4children is an independent foundation set up in memory of Nicolas Robinson (son of the founder) and provides education for disadvantaged children in Ethiopia – primarily the children of adults suffering from disabilities such as loss of limbs and blindness. 100% of donations go directly to the educational projects. This is made possible because all the administration work is carried out entirely by unpaid volunteers. The patron of Rainbows4children is the renowned BBC journalist, Michael Buerk.\nOur charter is to:\n1. Help young people in Ethiopia to have better lives, with a primary focus on education.\n2. Be organised in a fully transparent way, with full accountability to our donors. 100% of all money raised will be spent on children.\n3. Provide feedback to donors on all projects.\n4. Look for sustainable projects, which eventually can be maintained and funded by the local community.\n5. Select projects, which are catalytic in nature. Relatively small amounts of money can provide training, which enables local people to help each other.\n6. Provide assistance regardless of gender, politics or religion.",

It became the center of Montenegrin life and a religious center. It is because of its heritage as a long-term Montenegrin capital that it is today the honorary capital of Montenegro. \r\nLocated at the foot of Lovcen mountain, far enough and hidden from enemy sight, yet close enough and open for all friendly hands is the city museum, old capital of Montenegro for centuries, and origin point of Montenegrin spirituality and statehood. Patina of past ages on faces of buildings contains messages form past times since its first days up to forming modern European capital.\r\n",

The schools had ceased to exist as independent schools in 2002. The foundation safeguards the heritage of these schools, and continues to promote it's methodology and concepts for vocational training of women. The Dutch VAM foundation supports and promotes emancipation, gender equity and economic independence for women in particular. (see Mission & Goals). The expertise and methods used are widely recognized as one of the most successful in terms of women acquiring job qualifications and entering the labor market.\r\n\r\nIt specializes in made-to-measure vocational training for (especially) women - also in developing countries- in the fields of inter alia computer maintenance and services, entrepreneurship, management of water committees and maintenance of water pumps, plumbing, carpentry, building, etc. \r\nCurrently VAM is assisting in projects or monitoring projects in e.g. Suriname (South America), Turkey, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Mali and Moldova.\r\n\r\nThe Foundation is a not-for-profit, registered NGO, based in the Netherlands.",
