Formerly the Bangladesh field programme of the Geneva-based Lutheran World Service, RDRS became an autonomous national NGO in 1997. RDRS however maintains strong international connections. With LWF (as an Associate Programme); with ACT International; with its core partner agencies mainly in Europe, North America and Japan; and with regional networks such as AZEECON, SAGA and others.\r\n\r\nRDRS came into being at the time of Bangladesh’s War of Independence, in 1971. Set up by the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) to help refugees fleeing conflict across the border, it returned with them after liberation to carry out much-needed rehabilitation in the devastated and long-neglected northwest – greater Rangpur - Dinajpur Districts. In 1976, a sectoral development programme was launched to assist the poorest in agriculture, community development, health and women’s economic activities. Construction of roads, bridges, markets and schools continued.\r\nDuring these years, RDRS was the leading non-governmental agency in the northwest. It is also credited with introducing many major innovations: the treadle pump (its most famous invention, allowing crops to be grown in winter); wheat production and other crop diversification; vegetable gardens; and, women’s advancement, not least the picture of women on bicycles.\r\nBy the late 1980s, an integrated Comprehensive programme superseded its sectoral work, focused on conscientisation and group organization of the poor, emphasizing social, educational and economic elements. Physical infrastructure development continued under the Rural Works Project. \r\nSince then, RDRS successes have included the ‘greening the north’ through its roadside and homestead tree plantation programme; improving life on the chars (river islands on the Brahmaputra); raising awareness of women’s rights; promoting savings, credit and skills training to improve the livelihoods of the poor and, the emergence of Union Federations - self-managed people’s organisations of the rural poor. \r\nThe RDRS programme continues to evolve and innovate. Current realities mean the programme now comprises a range of various projects and financing, large and small, which all contribute to following vision and mission.\r\n\r\nVision \r\n\r\nThe achievement by the rural poor of meaningful political, social, and economic empowerment, peace and justice and a sustainable environment through their individual and collective effort.\r\n\r\nMission \r\n\r\nRDRS works with the rural poor & their organization \r\n• Build their capacity and confidence\r\n• Claim and establish their rights\r\n• Promote good governance\r\n• Improve access to resources and services \r\n\r\n", "notes": "Removed duplicate organisation 1854", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 498, "content_owner": 693, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 1030, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 929, "latitude": 23.762759, "longitude": 90.431674, "city": "Dhaka", "state": "", "address_1": "2 Naya Paltan", "address_2": "", "postcode": "1000", "iati_country": "BD", "country": 4, "location_target": 1030 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/fc/9a/fc9afad61210ba095ba1787f6706a417.jpg", "latitude": "23.762759", "longitude": "90.431674", "city": "Dhaka", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2013-01-16T10:43:31+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:54.342592+01:00", "name": "FPAB", "long_name": "Family Planning Association of Bangladesh", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.fpab.org/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "(+88 02) 9354238", "mobile": "01717302332", "fax": "888 02 8317385", "contact_person": "A F M Matiur Rahman", "contact_email": "matiur@fpab.org", "description": "Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) was established in 1953 under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Humaira Sayeed the founding president of the Association. The Association is governed by a National Executive committee consisting of 21 Members. National luminaries like late Alamgir M. A. Kabir, late Professor Dr. Md. Ibrahim, late Dr. (Captain) Abul Kashem, late Dr. Syed A K M Hafizur Rahman, Mr. M Shamsul Islam, Shaheed Md. Maizuddin, Kazi Anisur Rahman and other eminent personalities led FPAB since its inception.\r\n\r\nThe prime objective which inspired the establishment of the Association was to improve quality of life of the under privileged section of the people by advocating family planning as a basic human right and motivating people towards the concept of small family.\r\n\r\nMission:\r\nFPAB aims to improve the quality of lives of individuals, by campaigning for sexual health and reproductive right through advocacy and services, especially for poor and vulnerable people.\r\nFPAB defends the right of all young people to enjoy their sexual lives free from ill-health, unwanted pregnancy, violence and discrimination.\r\nFPAB supports a woman's right to choose to termite her pregnancy legally and safely.\r\nFPAB strives to eliminate Sexually Transmitted Infections and to eradicate HIV-AIDS, and FPAB carries its work in partnership with other organizations and donors to achieve our goals more efficiently and effectively.\r\n\r\nAs an affiliate of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), FPAB is the oldest and largest family planning non-government organization in Bangladesh, which pioneered family planning movement in the country. FPAB played an important role in formulating national family planning programme introduced by the then government of Pakistan in 1965. With the span of more than 50 years of its emergence, FPAB has made a significant achievement in creating awareness among the eligible couples about family planning and annually contributes 7% of the total national family planning performance. In conformity with the global and national needs, FPAB shifted its thrust from lone family planning interventions to the holistic approach of reproductive health in mid 90s of the last century. Instead of targeting fertile couples, interventions of FPAB now involve men and women of all ages with special focus on the disadvantaged segment of the population. Beneficiaries of FPAB have now exceeded ten million people. In 1981 it was indigenized as a Private Voluntary Development Organization (PVDO). VERC was designed to fill the void of in-country capacity building support to government and related community and rural development agencies. Its initial activities included communication, education, training material development, imparting training, conduct participatory action research and technology promotion.\r\nVERC’s field program evolved out of its need for an environment to apply its innovations in participatory development. VERC also worked to undertake capacity building activities of the rural poor, beginning with women’s literacy, health and sanitation and human resource development.\r\nRight from the beginning, it was however obvious that VERC’s main forte was its training services. Its commitment to quality materials, content and trainers quickly led to its recognition as a leading organization in this field. Its variety of development education, management, sectoral and skill training courses have reached almost around 417680 people to March 2012.\r\nVision : A self-reliant society based on justice, equity and sustainability, where every human being has the equal opportunity to maximize their potentials.\r\nIn all its work, VERC is committed to the principle of “self-actualization” a process of raising people’s consciousness to a level at which they can realize their potentials and are motivated to reorder their lives. \r\nPROGRAMS\r\nEntering its 36th year of operation, VERC’s activities have both grown and diversified as to include:\r\nField level\r\n\r\n Institution Building & Income Generation\r\n Water, Sanitation Hygiene Promotion, Arsenic Mitigation & Technology \r\n Development\r\n Education\r\n Health – Preventive and Clinical support on maternal and child health \r\n care\r\n Environmental Protection\r\n Assisting the GOB in promoting good governance in the country \r\n Disaster Preparedness and Management\r\n Integrating Disability Issues in Community Development\r\n\r\nSupport Services \r\n Training & Communication\r\n Research, Monitoring, Evaluation & Documentation\r\n Capacity Building ofs Local Organisations and Strengthening of Local \r\n Government \r\nAbout eighty percent of VERC's services are aimed at the interest of the poor women and children. In many of its human development efforts, VERC’s success has been encouraging, though along with its share of ups VERC has had to endure its share of downs as well. It is in the face of adversity that VERC has learnt many of its most valuable lessons. A long-term strategic framework has been developed by which VERC hopes to maximize sustainability of its development efforts.\r\n", "notes": "Organisation duplicate 1860 deleted. graduates in archeology, hotel management and tourism. \r\nThe College is the first of its kind in Jordan to link the various aspects of cultural heritage management from theoretical understanding to practice. The main goal of the Department of archaeology is the study, interpretation and protection of Jordan’s cultural heritage. Students who study archaeology develop strong leadership skills as a result of the extensive fieldwork experience and training opportunities offered in this programme. The archaeology programme is truly multidisciplinary covering in addition to archaeology theories and methods areas like cultural resources management, modern scientific techniques in archaeology, conservation and museum studies.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 793, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 726, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 284, "latitude": 7.296355, "longitude": 80.730103, "city": "Digana", "state": "Kandy", "address_1": "Childrens Home Aluthwatta", "address_2": "Digana Rajawella ", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "LK", "country": 59, "location_target": 726 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/ab/27/ab27ed80a2c8160fef6083ffa917351d.jpg", "latitude": "7.296355", "longitude": "80.730103", "city": "Digana", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-07-10T17:25:48+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:55.735092+01:00", "name": "Home of Hope ", "long_name": "Home of Hope Trust", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.homeofhope.nl/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "0094 773407204", "mobile": "0094 777282883", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Rebecca Bijker", "contact_email": "rebecca@homeofhope.nl", "description": "Home of Hope is situated in the middle of Sri Lanka on 12.5 hectares of land. It has a clearly defined mandate: to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity.\r\n\r\nBelgium's humanitarian aid strategy results from an inspired approach to humanitarian law, principles and good practice for humanitarian aid (\"Good Humanitarian Donorship\") and the European Union (EU) Consensus on humanitarian aid. Belgian humanitarian aid is therefore in line with the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. The principle of humanity involves taking initiatives to combat human suffering, regardless of the region involved, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable individuals. The dignity of all victims must be respected and protected. The principle of impartiality means that humanitarian aid can only be provided in accordance with requirements, with no discrimination between or within the ethnic groups affected. Neutrality means that no party involved in armed or unarmed conflict may receive preferential treatment in the context of humanitarian aid. Independence means that the bodies involved in humanitarian aid are not bound by any other political decisions and actions taken by the donors in the field.\r\n\r\nBelgium's humanitarian efforts primarily involve support for international and civil partner organisations with proven expertise and ability to achieve; they must also be prepared to demonstrate transparency in their reports. It is specifically engaged in developmental issues within the rural communities of the Karaga District, the Tamale metropolis, and its peri-urban communities.\r\n\r\nGYAM was founded in 1993 by young graduates from the country’s Polytechnic and Vocational Training institutions in the Northern Region. The formation of the organization resulted from the growing rate of unemployment in the Northern Region among the youth with or without any formal education. GYAM works to alleviate this problem on two fronts, first with our Vocational Skills Training Program which intends to provide self employable skills to socially deprived youth, and secondly through our Community Program which intends to enhance the social well being of deprived communities with social infrastructure development, KVIPS, hand wells, as well as targeting the enhanced social well being of women specifically. Indeed there is a direct correlation between conditions in rural communities- specifically the availability of water and the seeming\r\n subordinate position of women, and those who migrate from these rural areas to the cities only to be forced onto the streets with no means to support themselves.\r\n\r\nGoals of Core Programs\r\nTo encourage a greater quality of live among rural communities in the northern region of Ghana through the provision of vocational skills for unemployed youth.
