We are deeply concerned about the impact of this loss on nature, on people who rely on wetlands for their water, fish and other sustenance, on resilience to extreme weather events, and addressing the challenge of climate change. We believe we can halt and reverse this negative trend. \r\n\r\nOur Vision for the future is:\r\nA world where wetlands are treasured and nurtured for their beauty, the life they support and the resources they provide.\r\n\r\nOur Mission as an organisation is:\r\nTo sustain and restore wetlands, their resources and biodiversity.\r\n \r\nOur goal for 2020 is:\r\nWetlands are wisely used and restored for the role they play in:\r\n- improving human well-being and local livelihoods\r\n- conserving biodiversity\r\n- sustaining the water cycle\r\n- reducing climate change and its impacts\r\n",

"description": "Kitale Community Advancement Programme (KAP) is a community education and counselling programme working in Trans Nzoia County/Kenya, which aims to mitigate the impact of societal breakdown especially violence, trauma, addictions, HIV/AIDS risky behaviours and environmental degradation. Its activities focus on capacity-building voluntary community resource persons, providing a variety of (group) counselling- and psycho-education services whilst also planning to provide trainings for a fee.\r\n\r\nOriginally started and run by the Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMM) in 1993 as ‘Kitale AIDS Programme’, in December 2009 the programme was registered as a national Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) separate from the Catholic Church. Whilst implementing its HIV preventive activities the urgent need to address major underlying and related societal problems became apparent. \r\nThis lead to efforts towards re-branding. In April 2017 KAP is finalizing its process for name change with relevant Kenyan Authorities: from ‘Kitale AIDS Programme (KAP)’ to ‘Kitale Community Advancement Programme (KAP)’.\r\n\r\nKAP’s main objective is “To facilitate, promote and create innovative and sustainable educational and counselling approaches to mitigate the impact of societal breakdown, especially violence, abuse, trauma, addictions, HIV/AIDS and related problems and environmental degradation”.\r\nIts main areas of interest are (A) Trauma Management, Prevention and Peace, (B ) Addiction Prevention, Community-Based Treatment & Referral, (C) HIV/AIDS Behaviour Interventions and (D) Comprehensive Recovery for Extra Vulnerable Youths. Care for the environment is integrated in all components.\r\nKAP sees societal cohesion, community ownership, personal responsibility, true commitment and therefore true voluntarism as vital prerequisites for healing and defeating violence, trauma, addiction, HIV and restoring environmental damage. KAP’s work is based on a strong and practical spirituality with an ecumenical and interfaith character.\r\n\r\nBetween 2002 - 2016 KAP trained and followed-up 3,885 volunteers with 70% still active 8 months after training with at least 1 activity per week. KAP has 14 staffs and 25 community trainers. \r\n\r\nKAP’s activities show to impact people deeply and lead to sincere efforts towards healing, peace and addiction-free and/or safe(r) behaviours. These include reduction of participants’ risky, violent or disruptive relationships and addictions, improved communication with partners and others, addressing of different sorts of stigma, ethnic imbalance and reconciliation between warring parties, and also increase in Voluntary HIV Counseling and Testing, -treatment and addressing of (the many) STIs, use of medical (HIV) treatment and preventive tools. Participants say that they are much helped by KAP’s psychological counseling sessions. Usually these concern extremely difficult domestic situations of neglect, loneliness, violence, (gang) rapes, including of young children, and broken families and relationships. ",

It brought States together in proclaiming that preservation of the environment is essential to the continued enjoyment of life itself. The Stockholm Conference proposed a specialized agency within the UN Secretariat to facilitate coordinated efforts among States towards protection of the environment. As a result, in 1973 the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was established by a resolution of the General Assembly, and its base established in Nairobi, Kenya.\r\n",

"description": "Walking for Water is the International variant of the Dutch Wandelen voor Water campaign.\r\n\r\nWalking for Water is an awareness and fundraising initiative which takes place around World Water Day (22 March). School children aged 10-13 are sponsored by friends and family to walk 6 kilometres, while carrying 6 litres of water in a backpack. With two important results: kids learn about global water issues and raise funds to help solve them. Lectures by teachers and external guest on the importance of clean drinking water and proper sanitation ensure the educational nature of the event.\r\n\r\nThe experience helps kids understand what many children their age in developing countries must do every single day, often at the expense of being in school. It is a motivating and effective community event to engage the younger generation on an important topic and teach them that they can make a difference in the lives of others.\r\n\r\nHistory\r\nThe concept of Walking for Water was pioneered in the Netherlands by NGO Aqua for All, and has grown in popularity every year since it started 8 years ago. Results have been impressive — in 2010, 18.000 children from over 400 schools Walked for Water, raising €1.2 million for water projects around the world. Schools choose a project to fund with the money raised, and see the project unfold online.",

"description": "UDPK, a GDRL deployment site, is an umbrella organization for DPOs in Kenya.\r\nFrom January 2012 through March 2013, UDPK ran a project to support the implementation of Article 29 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which promotes the rights of people with disabilities to participate in public life, including the right to vote and to run for office.\r\n UDPK identified aspirants with disabilities who intended to run for various national, county, or nominative seats. They provided training on campaign and communication in readiness for general elections. This included a particular emphasis on assisting women with disabilities aspiring to run or be nominated for political office with special training and with linking them to other institutions..\r\nUDPK examined election-related policies, and met with political parties, to ensure they helped enhance the participation of people with disabilities. They took part in the elections observation process.\r\nKenya has at least 12 members of parliament and about 71 members of the various county assemblies in the country who are people with disabilities.",

"description": "CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation is an international alliance of members and partners which constitutes an influential network of organisations at the local, national, regional and international levels, and spans the spectrum of civil society. \r\n\r\nCIVICUS includes the following in its definition of civil society: civil society networks and organisations; trade unions; faith-based networks; professional associations; NGO capacity development organisations; philanthropic foundations and other funding bodies.\r\n\r\nCIVICUS has worked for nearly two decades to strengthen citizen action and civil society throughout the world, especially in areas where participatory democracy and citizens' freedom of association are threatened. \r\n\r\nCIVICUS has a vision of a global community of active, engaged citizens committed to the creation of a more just and equitable world. This is based on the belief that the health of societies exists in direct proportion to the degree of balance between the state, the private sector and civil society.\r\n\r\nCIVICUS provides a focal point for knowledge-sharing, common interest representation, global institution-building and engagement among these disparate sectors. It acts as an advocate for citizen participation as an essential component of governance and democracy worldwide. \r\n\r\nCIVICUS seeks to amplify the voices and opinions of ordinary people and it gives expression to the enormous creative energy of the burgeoning sector of civil society.\r\nMission:\r\n\r\nCIVICUS is an international alliance dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society throughout the world.\r\nVision:\r\nA worldwide community of informed, inspired, committed citizens engaged in confronting the challenges facing humanity.\r\n\r\nCIVICUS seeks to amplify the voices and opinions of ordinary people. It recognises that for effective and sustainable civic participation to occur, citizens must enjoy rights of free association and be able to engage all sectors of society.\r\n\r\nValues:\r\n\r\nJustice and Equality - CIVICUS believes in the equality and dignity of every person, and that all people should be free to exercise their rights as citizens as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.\r\n\r\nReciprocity - CIVICUS exists to ensure that people treat one another with the respect with which they themselves wish to be treated. Civil society cannot thrive without mutual respect.\r\n\r\nKnowledge - CIVICUS recognises that to increase its global awareness of civil society and before it can assist or take action, it needs to form alliances with other concerned bodies to increase its influence and knowledge.\r\n\r\nVision- CIVICUS is realistic about conflict in today's world, but remains optimistic that most people, organisations, governments and businesses will work together for the benefit of all.\r\n\r\nPrincipled Courage - CIVICUS will always promote civil justice and pledges to act in a manner that honours the principles of democratic civil society.\r\n\r\nObjectives:\r\nThe three main objectives that inform our mission are:\r\nInfluence – to ensure that civil society is taken seriously and is able to have a stronger influence on the making of decisions that matter to people's lives;\r\nConnect – to connect the different sources and forces of citizen action so that citizen action as a whole becomes more robust and effective;\r\nEnable - to promote better conditions for civil society to do its work, and to enhance and protect optimal standards for all civil society.",
