"description": "Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) was established in 1953 under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Humaira Sayeed the founding president of the Association. The Association is governed by a National Executive committee consisting of 21 Members. National luminaries like late Alamgir M. A. Kabir, late Professor Dr. Md. Ibrahim, late Dr. (Captain) Abul Kashem, late Dr. Syed A K M Hafizur Rahman, Mr. M Shamsul Islam, Shaheed Md. Maizuddin, Kazi Anisur Rahman and other eminent personalities led FPAB since its inception.\r\n\r\nThe prime objective which inspired the establishment of the Association was to improve quality of life of the under privileged section of the people by advocating family planning as a basic human right and motivating people towards the concept of small family.\r\n\r\nMission:\r\nFPAB aims to improve the quality of lives of individuals, by campaigning for sexual health and reproductive right through advocacy and services, especially for poor and vulnerable people.\r\nFPAB defends the right of all young people to enjoy their sexual lives free from ill-health, unwanted pregnancy, violence and discrimination.\r\nFPAB supports a woman's right to choose to termite her pregnancy legally and safely.\r\nFPAB strives to eliminate Sexually Transmitted Infections and to eradicate HIV-AIDS, and FPAB carries its work in partnership with other organizations and donors to achieve our goals more efficiently and effectively.\r\n\r\nAs an affiliate of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), FPAB is the oldest and largest family planning non-government organization in Bangladesh, which pioneered family planning movement in the country. FPAB played an important role in formulating national family planning programme introduced by the then government of Pakistan in 1965. With the span of more than 50 years of its emergence, FPAB has made a significant achievement in creating awareness among the eligible couples about family planning and annually contributes 7% of the total national family planning performance. In conformity with the global and national needs, FPAB shifted its thrust from lone family planning interventions to the holistic approach of reproductive health in mid 90s of the last century. Instead of targeting fertile couples, interventions of FPAB now involve men and women of all ages with special focus on the disadvantaged segment of the population. Beneficiaries of FPAB have now exceeded ten million people. ",

The FNC counts with sustainability policies that impact the coffee growers, focusing mainly in the productive, social and environmental areas .\r\n\r\nThe FNC is a non-profit organization, funded by national and international resources. Among its various projects, it has created an institutional model which allows coffee growers to turn their collective savings into public goods of their own interest. With this sustainability model, since 1927 the FNC has managed to: ensure coffee growers purchased at transparent prices, develop scientific research projects, transfer new technologies to coffee fields, position Café de Colombia as the richest coffee in the world, and implement social programs in alliances in which the national and local governments, certain clients, the multilateral development banks, and international cooperation agencies participate.",

"description": "FIT Resources is a not for profit institution whose mandate is to alleviate poverty by promoting sustainable and effective Business Development Services (BDS) for Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs). FIT is part of a network of organizations initiated by ILO in six African Countries in East Central and West Africa in the early 90s. FIT has identified personnel to be a key resource in development and therefore places Capacity Building at the core of its activities.\r\n\r\nFIT believes that effective services that blend well with the objectives of development agencies, governments and those of target beneficiaries will increase growth and generate employment. Our strategy for sustainable livelihoods is to improve the supply of sustainable development services and skills to communities and SMEs through capacity building and access to markets and or services.\r\n\r\nIn Kenya and most countries in Sub Saharan Africa 80% of the population reside in rural areas with approximately 90% deriving their livelihoods from agriculture and agriculture related activities. The highest poverty levels are also to be found in the rural areas. FIT has therefore concentrated on promoting initiatives in the rural areas aimed at promoting agriculture as a business.\r\n\r\nFIT therefore believes that targeting the poorest people to be able to participate in their own development will spur sustainable poverty alleviation across board. Hence FIT Programmes have focused on promoting initiatives that are cost effective and can be implemented by the people themselves.\r\n\r\nFIT Resources offers exceptional collective knowledge and experience in innovative approaches to agricultural & enterprise development, intervention design, implementation and evaluation, management, and diversification of income resources among the rural poor. Our programmes have helped many entrepreneurs and development organizations to restructure and rationalize and commercialize their activities in order to improve wealth creation leading to improved and sustainable livelihoods.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat we do\r\n\r\nBroadly, FIT promotes SME development through:\r\n\r\n•\tResearch\r\n•\tDesign and implementation of programmes\r\n•\tProject analysis, design and or management \r\n•\tMonitoring and Evaluation of SME projects\r\n•\tCapacity building for institutions who work with SMEs\r\n\r\nMain Focus\r\n\r\nFIT works with and through:\r\n\r\n•\tMedia houses in the development and implementation of commercially viable media programmes that benefit smallholder farmers mainly in rural communities. FIT builds capacities of Media staff and consultants,\r\n•\tDonors, Governments and trade associations that promote smallholder farmers in specific sub-sectors especially honey and the horticultural sub-sectors. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants working for governments and donors and,\r\n•\tFinancial institutions that support micro-entrepreneurs in agribusiness. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants in financial institutions. \r\n\r\n\r\nStandards and Monitoring\r\n\r\nAll FIT projects are subject to continuous monitoring, feedback and regular reviews to ensure that the assignments are completed within prescribed timeframe and emerging issues consistently addressed.\r\n\r\nInstitutional Links\r\n\r\nNetworking is a fundamental component of FIT’s business strategy. FIT was established by ILO as a network of organisations in six East, Central and West Africa. The network provides FIT enormous opportunities experience sharing and support amongst the network members. FIT has received support from various donor agencies who include the Dutch Government, ILO Technical Assistance, Department for International Development (DfID) and Micro Enterprise Support Programme of the European Union.\r\n",

"description": "Programme FINISH stands for Financial INclusion Improves Sanitation and Health. Indian NGOs: BISWA (Orissa), IIRD (Rajasthan), ESAF (Maharashtra), SAMBHAV (Madhya Pradesh), Bharathi (Tamil Nadu), RDO Trust (Tamil Nadu) and Dutch NGO WASTE are joining hands with insurance organizations like TATA-AIG (India) and\r\nfinancial institutions like SNS-REAAL (Netherlands), NHB (India), NABARD (India) etc., to attempt to mobilize funds from end-user households to build 1 million sanitation systems. Since toilets do not generate income directly, there is a reluctance to invest in them. Therefore, innovative micro-credit and financial schemes that combine loans with micro-insurance packages are being tried out to mobilize household investment towards toilets. \r\n\r\nFINISH is a public-private partnership project aimed at setting up 1 million sustainable sanitation systems in India. \r\n\r\nFor more information on FINISH please contact programme director: SA Bhave at\r\nsadanand8bhave@yahoo.co.in",

"description": "Food for the Hungry was founded in 1971 and gave birth to the ministry now at work in more than 26 countries worldwide. Since then, Food for the Hungry has boldly spoken out for and served the poor, sending courageous heroes to help communities transform themselves. Founder Dr. Larry Ward held to the simple premise that “they die one at a time, and so we can help them one at a time.” Again and again, we turn to the words from Scripture from which our name emerged, “He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry,” Psalm 146:7.\r\n\r\nIn 1976, Food for the Hungry (FH) provided emergency relief supplies to Kenya in the Marsabit district. In 2011, Kenya and four other countries experienced the worst drought in 60 years. Through livestock programs, the poor were able to sell their livestock to earn $2.2 million during the drought. This helped communities survive during the food crisis and water shortage. Presently, FH continues to work in Marsabit and three other districts to help rural communities.\r\n",

"description": "The ERC's mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-initiated frontier research across all fields of research, on the basis of scientific excellence.\r\n \r\nThe ERC complements other funding activities in Europe such as those of the national research funding agencies, and is a flagship component of the 'Ideas Programme' of the European Union's Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7).\r\n \r\nBeing 'investigator-driven', or 'bottom-up', in nature, the ERC approach allows researchers to identify new opportunities and directions in any field of research, rather than being led by priorities set by politicians. This approach ensures that funds are channelled into new and promising areas of research with a greater degree of flexibility.\r\n \r\nERC grants are awarded through open competition to projects headed by starting and established researchers, irrespective of their origins, who are working or moving to work in Europe - the sole criterion for selection is scientific excellence. The aim here is to recognise the best ideas, and retain and confer status and visibility to the best brains in Europe, while also attracting talent from abroad.\r\n \r\nHowever the ERC aims to do more than simply fund research. \r\nIn the long term, it looks to substantially strengthen and shape the European research system. This is done through high quality peer review, the establishment of international benchmarks of success, and the provision of up-to-date information on who is succeeding and why.\r\n \r\nThe hope is that these processes will help universities and other research institutions gauge their performance and encourage them to develop better strategies to establish themselves as more effective global players.\r\n \r\nBy challenging Europe's brightest minds, the ERC expects that its grants will help to bring about new and unpredictable scientific and technological discoveries - the kind that can form the basis of new industries, markets, and broader social innovations of the future.\r\n \r\nUltimately, the ERC aims to make the European research base more prepared to respond to the needs of a knowledge-based society and provide Europe with the capabilities in frontier research necessary to meet global challenges.",
