It was established in 2003 after realizing that small scale farmers are often unable to take advantage of the increasing opportunities for entrepreneurial development offered by market liberalization and private agro-industrial investment. The Faida MaLi team carries out consultancies and implements donor funded projects in providing market linkage services. We facilitate contracts between smallholder producers and agricultural companies, bringing together actors from both supply and demand sides to catalyse a specific enterprise development.",

"description": "Every day 4.500 children die as a result due to a shortage of clean drinking water. This while at the same time in other parts of the world clean drinking water is used to do the dishes and to flush the toilet. More than a billion people do not have access to clean drinking water and as a result of this 3,5 million people worldwide die every year. Jointhepipe.org, an internationally oriented foundation, wants to do something about this! Our goal is to build the longest water pipe in the world. Long enough to bring clean and safe drinking water to all of those people who currently have no drinking water.\r\nThe construction of water projects in Third World countries is being financed through the sale of our unique, hip and sustainable Jointhepipe.org water carafes and water bottles. Bottled water that is being imported from European countries is responsible for a great deal of CO2 emissions and is, on top of that, 400 to 3000 times more expensive than tap water. And that while The Netherlands have the best drinking water in Europe, that is what tests performed by the European Commission have shown. \r\nJointhepipe.org wants to promote the most sustainable water there is: tap water. We therefore designed a series of carafes and water bottles that can be filled with tap water. This way it is no longer necessary to purchase those polluting plastic throw-away bottles in the future. The profit of every carafe or bottle sold is being donated to one of our many water projects in Third World countries. So, drink only tap water from now on. Not only is it good for the environment and your wallet, but you can help us with our dream to bring safe drinking water to all those currently without. www.jointhepipe.org\r\n",

"description": "“Europe and the countries in Syria's neighbourhood are facing the biggest refugee crisis since the end of World War II, affecting all of us. Our response must be a joint one if we want to succeed. The EU Trust Fund embodies this common effort. I am convinced that this is the most effective way to continue addressing the massive needs in the region, and to turn despair into hope and a better future for the refugees.” Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn.\r\n\r\nContext\r\n\r\nThe conflict in Syria has triggered the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Refugees from Syria are the biggest refugee population from a single conflict in a generation, with over 5.6 million having fled to neighbouring countries. Lebanon, with close to 1 million registered Syrian refugees, and Jordan, with 650,000, host the largest numbers of registered refugees per capita in the world.\r\n\r\nTurkey hosts the largest number of refugees in the world, 3.5 million. Iraq and Egypt host large numbers of Syrian refugees along with refugees from many other countries, and on top of the estimated 1.9 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the case of Iraq. The EU is the leading donor in the international response to the Syrian crisis, with more than €10.8 billion collectively mobilised in aid from the EU and Member States since 2011.\r\n\r\nGovernance\r\n\r\nThe EU Regional Trust Fund has two governing bodies: a Trust Fund Board, which establishes and reviews the overall strategy of the Trust Fund; and an Operational Board, which decides on the allocation of funds to individual Actions.\r\n\r\nThe composition and voting rights of both bodies are detailed in the Trust Fund's Constitutive Agreement.\r\n\r\nThe Trust Fund\r\n\r\nThe EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis pools an increasing share of the EU's aid to the region into one single and flexible instrument. The Fund primarily addresses educational, economic and social needs of Syrian refugees while also supporting overstretched local communities and their administrations. The Trust Fund is a key instrument for the delivery of the EU's pledges made at the London conference on Syria in 2016 and the Brussels conferences on the Future of Syria and the Region in April 2017 and April 2018. It also underpins the special EU Compacts agreed with Jordan and Lebanon outlining joint efforts to improve the living conditions of both Syrian refugees and vulnerable host communities.\r\n\r\nThe Trust Fund could also be asked to address needs and provide support in a post-conflict Syria, subject to a credible political transition firmly underway, in line with UNSC Resolution 2254/2015.\r\n\r\nObjectives\r\n\r\nIn line with the priorities set out at the London conference on Syria in 2016, the Brussels conferences on the Future of Syria and the Region in April 2017 and April 2018, and the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework adopted in 2016 as part of the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, the main objectives of the EU Trust Fund are to foster more self-reliance of refugees, helping them thrive, not just survive, while at the same time assisting the countries and communities hosting them.\r\n\r\nIn doing so, the EU Trust Fund bridges the nexus between humanitarian relief and development aid:\r\n\r\n* It addresses early recovery, as well as resilience and self-reliance needs of refugees and IDPs, in a manner that also benefits local communities, and preserves the stability of neighbouring countries.\r\n\r\n* It supports countries hosting refugees by investing in health and education, economic development, job creation and integration into labour markets, for both local communities and refugees, especially vulnerable groups such as women and youth.",

"description": "ETC Urban Agriculture (ETC-UA) is the advisory group and resource centre working in the field of urban agriculture and food security since 1992. Its mission is to improve capacities of local authorities, NGOs and CBOs, governmental organisations and other stakeholders regarding urban agriculture.\r\n\r\nIncreasingly people live in cities, and urban poverty and urban food insecurity are rapidly rising. Growing food, herbs and medicinal plants, and raising animals in vacant open spaces in and around the cities, provides the urban poor with nutritious food and an important source of income. Urban farming also contributes to other urban issues such as social inclusion, urban water management, recycling of urban wastes, urban greening, recreation and ecological education.\r\n\r\nThe staff of ETC Urban Agriculture consists of experienced professionals of various disciplines, programme assistants, as well as a unit secretary and financial officer. This team is assisted on demand by specialists involved in other ETC units. ETC Urban Agriculture advisors have long term experience in various aspects of sustainable agricultural development in both the urban and rural context in a large number of countries.\r\n\r\nExpertise & Services\r\n\r\nETC-Urban Agriculture organises its team and work around the following main themes:\r\n\r\n1. Urban agriculture, poverty alleviation and local economic development.\r\n\r\nUrban agriculture can play an important role as a complementary strategy for poverty alleviation, social inclusion and local economic development. ETC-UA supports the transition from subsistence to market oriented farming by assisting in technology development, improved farm management, strengthening of farmers organisations, supporting micro-enterprises involved in production of compost and other inputs, as well as in food processing, market analysis and development of direct producer-consumer linkages, etcetera. Special attention is given to women and unemployed youth.\r\n\r\n2. Urban agriculture, food security and nutrition.\r\n\r\nUrban agriculture can make important contributions to improvement of food security and nutrition of the urban poor by production for (home) consumption and local exchange or sales of surpluses which substantially enhances access of poor urban families to fresh foods at reasonable prices and reduces food costs allowing to save income for other essentials (medicines, school fees).\r\nETA-UA assists in designing strategies to enhance security of land use, introduction of low cost micro-farming technologies and nutritional education. Special attention is given to disadvantaged groups and families affected by HIV-Aids.\r\n\r\n3. Reuse of urban organic wastes and waste water in urban agriculture\r\n\r\nReuse of urban organic wastes and wastewater in agriculture under proper management, converts wastes into valuable resources (nutrients and water) for farmers, while reducing negative impact on health and environment. ETC-UA supports this by documenting and dissemination of best practices, by assisting in the set up of household and community based waste collection and compost production units, and by assisting in the design and implementation of municipal strategies that reduce the health and environmental risks associated with reuse of wastewater while enhancing its socio-economic benefits.\r\n\r\n4. Integration of urban agriculture in urban planning and design\r\n\r\nIntegration of agriculture in the urban planning system is an important precondition for the development of sustainable and safe urban agriculture for income and food as well as for urban greening, micro-climate regulation, landscape and biodiversity management, creation of buffer zones and land reserves, water management and recreational options for the citizens (agro-tourism). ETC-UA supports inclusion of urban agriculture in urban land use planning and the design of new neighbourhoods or slum development projects. Promotion of multi-functional land use is often an important focus.",
