If they do not manage to organise themselves, they will remain powerless on a political level and will be economically disadvantaged. Agriterra’s work is based on the conviction that if they organise themselves, they will be able to take the responsibility of their development into their own hands. "description": "Independent Medico Legal Unit (IMLU) is a registered Non-Governmental human rights and governance organization that seeks a just world free from torture by promoting the rights of torture victims, survivors, and protects all Kenyans from all forms of state-perpetrated torture by employing a comprehensive mechanism in advocating for policy reforms, supervising government devotion to human rights, litigation and rehabilitation of torture victims through psychological and medical treatment and capacity building of key stakeholders.\r\n\r\nIMLU is the lead agency in a regional human rights network of torture organizations and an active member of several regional and international human rights networks, including African Network of Torture Rehabilitation Center, World Organization against Torture (OMCT), International Federation of Health and Human Rights Organizations (IFHHRO), and the Coalition for Effective Operation of the African Court.\r\n\r\nFurther, IMLU has been accredited by the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) as a center for rehabilitation of torture victims and by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) as a Continuing Legal Education provider. Through its Board of Directors, IMLU spearheaded the creation of the Human Rights Committee within the Kenya Medical Association which it intends to continue nurturing and support human rights work within the medical fraternity.\r\n\r\nIMLU documents torture perpetration through forensic medical reports which aids in legal redress for torture victims. It exploits legal and advocacy means to seek justice for torture survivors since 1992. With time, we have gained the capacity to rehabilitate the victims of torture through provision of medical and psychological treatment, facilitating legal action and documenting cases of torture in Kenya. In furtherance of pushing for a torture free society, IMLU aggressively campaigns against the vice through the media and other outlets.\r\nSpanning a period of two decades, this work has been feasible via the remarkable endeavors of our network of professionals including doctors, psychological counselors, lawyers and grassroots human rights monitors and human rights defenders.",

By identifying how current and emerging threats can translate into broader insecurities, human security calls for comprehensive, people-centred, context-specific and prevention-oriented actions that help to improve the capacities of Governments and people to provide early warning, identify root causes and address policy gaps with regard to current and emerging challenges. Together, these actions aim to advance freedom from fear, freedom from want and freedom to live in dignity for all.",

"description": "In 2000 Kazi Mashambani Development Programme (KAMADEP) was registered as a national NGO in Kenya. The NGO has since established all requisite governance, management and administrative structures. It has five board of directors. i.e 3 male 2 female. Under them are executive director, programme manager and other field and supportive staff. \r\nIt exists to work with the most poor and marginalized members of the communities to reduce poverty through utilization of resources in a sustainable manner. It does this by strengthening the capacity of local individuals, groups and communities in projects that concern them so that they can own and manage them more effectively at the project completion period. A strategic decision was made to focus, over the coming years, on the areas of WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), health and nutrition, food security, education and vocational training.\r\n\r\nWorld Vision Niger (WVN) operates in the regions of Niamey, Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillaberi and Zinder (six out of eight regions) from 13 sub-offices; using both the Area Development Programming Approach (ADP) and implementing projects funded through grants. The ADP model is a long term, multi-sectorial approach concentrating initiatives on vulnerable communities within a targeted zone for efficiency and maximum impact. WVN works in 21 ADPs dispersed in urban and rural areas including five in Niamey, four in Maradi, three in Tahoua, six in Tillaberi, and three in Zinder.\r\nWorld Vision is an international NGO that has substantive expertise in the areas of VSLA, humanitarian relief, soil and water management, market gardening, seed production, and village water works. It will contribute its methodological expertise in WPs 1, 2, 3, and 5 (especially for NRM and agricultural commodity production interventions), as well as serve as the lead implementer in Torodi municipality.\r\n",

We believe that people deserve to have high quality water and sanitation services, not just for life, but for generations. We believe that independent evaluation of water and sanitation programs in developing countries will identify objectively what’s really working well and what’s not (and why). By promoting learning and innovation, we hope to help improve the work and coordination of international development organizations so that generations can enjoy safe water and convenient toilets.\r\n\r\nImprove International helps the Millenium Water Alliance to define, develop and execute a learning agenda for the Millennium Water Alliance – Latin America Program (MWA-LAP) that will result in the sharing and transfer of knowledge and best practices among the implementing partners of this program and the production of evidence based advocacy materials that can be shared with the global WASH sector.",

"description": "Imagine homeless children, parents who cannot afford to pay school fees, or an orphan who is the only caretaker of his or her siblings. Poverty and conflict have a disastrous effect on a child’s healthy development.\r\n\r\nEveryone agrees that a caring home for every child is something we all want. The same goes for finding foster families for those children who might otherwise be left homeless, or providing family coaches to support the families of children with disabilities. And finally, everyone wants to be able to provide families that are living in extreme poverty with financial support to prevent their children from having to work at a young age.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, all children are entitled to adequate education that is provided by qualified teachers and an involved government, with parents’ committees that stimulate their sons and daughters to go to school.\r\n\r\nA comprehensive approach is needed to enable all children of each family to go to school. Such an approach not only has to stimulate all parties involved to tackle the issue, including public authorities, parents, students and teachers, but also has to reward the achievement of good results.",

"description": "ILIDP is a community owned and managed non-profit organization started in 1972 and registered in Kenya. Its mission is to build the capacity of the Loita Maasai to manage their own resources - human, land and livestock - for their own development. In empowering the Loita Maasai, the short term objective is to alleviate poverty and improve the socio-economic status of the community by promoting development initiatives that are relevant to Loita culture and which support their interaction in society. \r\n\"Unreachable\" aptly describes the Loita Maasai pastoralists. They are a subset of the Maasai community whose population of about 30,000 occupies an area of south western Kenya. The region is remote without effective infrastructure. This, combined with Loita's reputation asthe most conservative of the Maasai, has contributed to this their status as one of the nearly 'unreachable' people of the world. \r\nOver the years, ILIDP has seen some evolution in its approaches and intervention. Overall, mobilising the community around formal education is identified as a major long term strategy for addressing the continued marginalization of the Loita community and a means of addressing their under-representation in various sectors of both government and civil society.",
