"description": "Description \r\n\r\nSsuubi ly’Abato Voluntary Organization (SAVO) is a vision of Mutyaba Moses and other committed individuals of whom suffered street life themselves, experienced the life on the street which some of these children lead or may have encountered any other sort of upheavals related to those encountered nowadays by vulnerable children in Uganda. Moses himself the Director for instance was born 2 months after the death of his father and by then his mother was just a young girl of 17years who later on abandoned him under the care of Moses’ grandmother at the age of 3years to explore herself a new rewarding life. Moses’ life experiences was the point for him to think too deep about helping the destitute children and today he has changed many street children into useful people in the Nyendo Community by involving them into community activities of sanitation. This helps when the community can look at these children as useful people than being subject to violence both from the police, town people and from older kids. \r\n\r\nChildren have been the main rubbish carriers with less responsibility, dumping rubbish anywhere at their convenience, for; they are made to carry big loads of garbage which rarely reach to the right destination. However, some community members have began learning by the situation and participate in voluntary cleaning of their areas. The main causes being; Poor housing and planning, Lack of enough skips located in different areas closer to the people, Reckless dumping of rubbish, Lack of a well designed dumping site for the public, lack of knowledge on the importance of keeping good sanitation behavior in our environment, Parents left the whole garbage dumping tasks in the hands of children which leaves the work poorly done , often children are found dropping these garbage on the way as it seems to be much heavy for them to Cary, people do not have dust bins at their working places.\r\nSAVO signed partnership agreement with Masaka Municipal Council to promote health and sanitation in Nyendo Ssenyange Division the activities assigned cover road sweeping, trench cleaning. This has acted as source of funding and at same time promoted sanitation. SAVO has given employment to 3 youth on the program and bought equipment to support service delivery, these were; 3 wheelbarrows 3 garden rakes, 4 pair of gloves, 3 scribing brushes, 6 brooms and 2 spades and have mobilized the community to keep proper sanitation.\r\n\r\nThe organization has been committed to the improvement of the quality of each child’s life within the context of family, community and culture.\r\nOpportunities for the child to grow physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, vocationally and in terms of economic and environmental security has been and will continue to be the essence of what SAVO programs seek to offer and promote them in ways that empower those assisted children and parents or a positive role model to direct their self-development in socially beneficial ways.\r\n\r\nVision \r\nSAVO envisage resilient children who live to their full potential, whose rights and aspirations are fulfilled.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMission \r\nSAVO’s mission is to bolster children’s ability to deal with stress or an unhealthy environment through working in and with communities focusing on areas of prevention, care, support and mitigation; and capacity building so as to strike the balance between stressful life events and favorable protective factors.\r\n\r\nGoal\r\nSAVO’s goal is to mitigate the adverse health, economic and psychosocial effects of high-risk environment of children and their families.\r\n\r\nCore values \r\nChildren our focus, love, integrity, respect for diversity, excellence, continuous learning, accountability, gender, empowerment and child participation.\r\n",

"description": "Skills Plus, Uganda is registered under the Ministry of Gender and Community Services in particular Jinja District Local Administration Registration NO 122101. Skills Plus, Uganda has now made seven (7) years in existence since it’s inception from 1st October 2006. When the organization begun, its source of funding was from it’s members, well-wishers and Computer Training. The organization had one Computer which was used for both Training and Administration. \r\n\r\n The little fees paid by the Learners, well wishers, Skills Plus founder members, volunteers and Donors has given the organization a sense of direction and continuity. On its establishment, the pioneer Board of Trustees focused on putting in place necessities required by the organization like putting in place an office, a Computer centre, Tailoring centre, HIV/AIDS counseling and Training, Garage where youths would learn the practicals of Motor Vehicle Repair and Maintenance and a welding workshop where students would come for learning and also making a source of income for the organization and so many others. However, the organization is facing the problem of Limited Resources to meet its needs and the demand of the community she is serving. \r\n\r\nSkills Plus, Uganda continues to play a leading role in providing basic Skills that can improve people’s standards of living. Some of the Skills and activities that Skills Plus, Uganda provide are; HIV/AIDS sensitization, counseling and Training of counselors , Computer training, Tailoring Training, welding and fabrication, Child Support and Nursery teaching and day care program mainly to the orphans, Vulnerable Children, community empowerment in health like constructing a garbage bank or an ash put where the community can dump their garbage to promote sanitation and hygiene in area. \r\n\r\nThis year 2012, the organization has registered some success, more so, the organization constructed a garbage bank worth $2000, this garbage bank is almost serving the whole of Bugembe town council with a population of 60000. This has improved on the health standards of our people. Our Nursery school is also doing well, we now have a population of about 150 kids of which 70% of them are helpless. The organization’s target was to laying strategies for getting volunteers to help it get financial and material support from within and outside (Local, National and International) Levels to facilitate it’s activities and programs. \r\n\r\nThe Board members take this opportunity to thank all its stake holders, more so the volunteers that have sacrificed their time and money to fund most of our planned activities to help us fulfill some of our aims and objectives. \r\n",

"description": "African Monitor has taken time to understand how the poor currently live and survive, hypothesizing that a better understanding of how communities currently survive will lead to improved understanding of how development actors can work with grassroots communities to strengthen and sustain their livelihoods. We at African Monitor learnt that most of the poor survive by engaging actively and creatively in small income generating activities within the informal sector. They consist of the rural poor primarily engaged in agriculture, the isolated urban poor located in slums and shanty towns, and masses of young people excluded from formal economic activity. Realizing this, the question African Monitor is asking is “how does one design development systems and economies which works for grassroots communities?”\r\n\r\nFrom the perspective of grassroots communities with which African Monitor works, the message is clear – the African Moment will be realized when all of Africa’s citizens are able to effectively access the continent’s resources and economic opportunities so that they can independently generate and sustain their own livelihoods. It is clear that grassroots communities are largely not seeking handouts – but rather seek the same opportunities afforded to others, which make it possible to survive and thrive. To address this current urgent need, African Monitor has adopted an agenda to Unlock the African Moment for grassroots communities, by promoting policies, approaches and practices that increase grassroots’ ‘capability to function’; and those that unlock the grassroots potential to be the drivers of Africa’s economic rejuvenation.",

"description": "Food is a basic necessity of life. Yet more than 800 million people in developing countries aren’t getting enough of it. Small-scale farmers are the people that drive the development of regions that are torn by war and conflicts. They ensure that communities have enough to eat, they serve as employers and they bring together people who previously didn’t trust one another.\r\n\r\nWhen farmers work together they always provide a fresh basis for peaceful development. By working together they have more impact in boosting production. They are also better placed to speak from a position of strength when negotiating with their governments for improved services, infrastructure, access to water when it’s in short supply, grazing land and clearer land rights.\r\n\r\nCordaid helps create the right preconditions for small-scale farmers. By offering the required technological knowhow and training, for example. By giving them more insight into the market and improving their access to it. And by strengthening the position of farmers in their region and country.\r\n\r\nCordaid contributes to food security and works on reducing the number of conflicts. In this way Cordaid is creating the opportunities for communities to flourish.\r\n",

He is affiliated with the ‘Academy of Tourism’ and the ‘professorship Visitor Studies’. \r\n\r\nEugenio studied human geography with a specialisation in ‘International Development Studies’ at Utrecht University. He pursued a PhD degree (Cum laude) at Groningen University, The Netherlands, under the supervision of Professor Gregory Ashworth. His dissertation is titled Colonial Heritage and Ethnic Pluralism; Its socio-psychological meaning in a multiethnic society. \r\n\r\nHis research and teaching expertise include tourism product development and planning; heritage and tourism; uses and meanings of heritage; human resource development and tourism in developing countries; tourism research methods and techniques; sustainability in tourism. At NHTV, he teaches courses in Tourism Management and Heritage Tourism. He also teaches in the scientific Bsc/MA program Tourism in cooperation between NHTV and Wageningen University.\r\n\r\nBoth his dissertation and teaching activities use a combination of social and psychological approaches to the study of heritage and tourism concepts, most notably concepts that are situated on the boundary between the political and socio-psychological uses of heritage and tourism. They include concepts such as ‘sense of place,’ ‘identity’, ‘nation building’, ‘values’ and ‘interpretation’.",

"description": "History.\r\nWe became interested in the very poor North-Eastern part of Bali after a chance visit. An impoverised very dry area. There are no industies and there is hardly any tourism .After sponsoring some children and seeing the very poor state of general education (no books, not enough furniture or any other teaching materials we formed two foundations. Stichting Fondsenwerving Pacung Bali in the Netherlands (finding funds) and Yayasan Gemah Ripah(executive foundation) in Bali. Also we found funds to build training places for those children who liked to work with their hands.\r\nThis resulted in a garage, a weavery, a welding- and a furniture workshop.\r\nAll of them are now self sufficient. \r\n\r\n GOALS\r\n In time our goals changed from only supporting children from poor\r\n families to get an education and helping schools.\r\n We still help poor children to get an education but we were also able to build our own Educational, Social and Cultural Centre(see DVD). \r\n\r\n ACTIVITIES.\r\na. At the moment we have an(almost) free kindergarten visited by 35\r\n children who could otherwise not go to school. \r\nb. We have an extracurricular teaching program for primary\r\n school children. Visited by 115 children. Teaching topics are:\r\n 1. English conversation and grammar.\r\n 2. World Orientation.\r\n 3. Art / computer abilities / mathematics and science.\r\nc. On Sundays a similar program for 50 children from Junior and\r\n Senior Highschool. For them there are also debating groups and\r\n homework assistence. Teaching topics are\r\n 1. English conversation and grammar.\r\n 2. World Orientation and science.\r\n\r\nd. Our main interest at the moment though is the training of young\r\n teachers with the objective to propagate the modern (for Indonesia\r\n innovative) teaching methods in more places in Bali and Indonesia. \r\n\r\nSince 2010 there a close cooperation with the Ruud Stoop Culture School was established.",

We believe that people deserve to have high quality water and sanitation services, not just for life, but for generations. We believe that independent evaluation of water and sanitation programs in developing countries will identify objectively what’s really working well and what’s not (and why). By promoting learning and innovation, we hope to help improve the work and coordination of international development organizations so that generations can enjoy safe water and convenient toilets.\r\n\r\nImprove International helps the Millenium Water Alliance to define, develop and execute a learning agenda for the Millennium Water Alliance – Latin America Program (MWA-LAP) that will result in the sharing and transfer of knowledge and best practices among the implementing partners of this program and the production of evidence based advocacy materials that can be shared with the global WASH sector.",
