In Populorum Progressio, the 1967 Encyclical in which he set up the pontifical Justice, Development and Peace Commission, Pope Paul VI, declared the concern of the church with the development of peoples. This concern was particularly with “the development of those peoples who are striving to escape from hunger, misery, endemic diseases, and ignorance; of those who are looking for a wider share in the benefits of civilization and a more active improvement of their human qualities; of those who are aiming purposefully at their complete fulfilment.” He charged the commission with the task of “bringing to the whole of God’s People the full knowledge of the part expected of them at the present time, so as to further the progress of poorer peoples, to encourage social justice among nations, to offer to less developed nations the means whereby they can further their own progress.”\nThe JDPC Ijebu-Ode is an organisational manifestation of this concern of the church’s. We work to name and address the evils of our time in line with the life and teaching of Christ, to bring to the oppressed and the suffering the concrete reality of the love of Christ, to practice the love of Christ beyond the mere preaching of it. Our work in respect of poverty, human development, democracy, and human rights draws directly upon the Church’s call for a charitable response by the people of God to the cry of the poor, the injured, and the vulnerable. Poverty – and the hunger, ignorance, disease, and fear that are its manifestations – desecrate the God-given dignity of human beings and deny them the full flowering of their potential as beings in the image of God the Creator Himself. Injustice and human rights violation also contribute to this dehumanisation while, in addition, generating in their own capacity social antagonisms and conflict within the society, thus endangering peace and security and making more difficult the task of ensuring social conditions that enable people to live in dignity.\nPope Paul VI identified these conditions clearly in describing the simple desires of the oppressed of the world: “Freedom from misery, the greater assurance of finding subsistence, health and fixed employment; an increased share of responsibility without oppression of any kind and in security from situations that do violence to their dignity as men; better education – in brief, to seek to do more, know more and have more in order to be more: that is what men aspire to now when a greater number of them are condemned to live in conditions that make this lawful desire illusory.”The work of JDPC Ijebu-Ode is to help bring these conditions to reality.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 3642, "content_owner": 2238, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 2520, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 2835, "latitude": 9.066667, "longitude": 7.483333, "city": "", "state": "", "address_1": "", "address_2": "", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "NG", "country": 20, "location_target": 2520 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/21/19/2119cac1337f5e55150b98dfa7cfaca9.jpg", "latitude": "9.066667", "longitude": "7.483333", "city": "", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2014-12-15T21:22:33+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-08-06T11:57:22.545754+02:00", "name": "JPDC", "long_name": "Justice, Development and Peace Commission (2)", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": "eou0ck34hhu", "url": "http://www.cafod.org.uk/About-Us", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "", "description": "CAFOD is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales and part of Caritas International.\nAcross the world we bring hope and compassion to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice. Its current programs focus on three thematic areas: Governance & Human Rights, Sustainable Livelihoods & Health, and Humanitarian Support Services. We also have a business arm through the Private Sector Engagement in Development, where we work with various transnational companies for community relations services, training on human rights framework and various other needs. LITE-Africa advances these thematic areas through:\nProgrammes: LITE-Africa develops and implements high impact, community centered programmes. Each of its programmes builds off past programmes to strengthen, expand, deepen and implement lessons learned. This approach allows beneficiaries to gain maximum returns from its programmes. Its existing programmes add value to its donors because of its wide reach and measurable outcomes; this also allows it to inform the work of policy makers, government officials and oil companies (with respect to corporate social responsibility). In addition to this, it will continue to develop and implement new and innovative programmes in the various areas.\nResearch and Development: The high impact programmes which LITE-Africa implements at the community level are use as a tool to inform policy nationally and internationally. Its expertise has allowed it to produce assessments of existing development policies and practices; these assessments have been key in stimulating national dialogue and strengthening government transparency and accountability. Moreover, its expertise allows it to produce policy briefs, opinion editorials and media content using the Niger Delta as a case study in developing effective community level programmes within and beyond the Niger Delta. Our research is widely circulated for national and international consumption.\nNetworking and Collaboration: LITE-Africa maintains partnerships with CSO's and CBO's working on similar issues at the national, regional and international levels.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 2859, "content_owner": 2238, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 3002, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 4932, "latitude": 5.524953, "longitude": 7.492241, "city": "Umuahia", "state": "Abia", "address_1": "21, Old Timber Road", "address_2": "off Aba Road", "postcode": "440", "iati_country": "NG", "country": 20, "location_target": 3002 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/ae/c8/aec8013c4dc955b10ea1d3ba79b86a7d.jpg", "latitude": "5.524953", "longitude": "7.492241", "city": "Umuahia", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2015-08-27T18:34:05.854306+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-09-02T10:24:26.080316+02:00", "name": "LIVHORG", "long_name": "Living Hope ORganization", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": "43shb3otz53", "url": "http://orgs.tigweb.org/living-hope-organization-livhorg", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "08027022855", "mobile": "08027022855", "fax": "none", "contact_person": "Mr. Jude Munaonye", "contact_email": "livhorg@yahoo.com", "description": " The Living Hope Organization (Livhorg) or its Network are in the vanguard to establish such groups of AIDS Orphans, Widows and people living/affected with HIV/AIDS and its fallouts in all the Local Government Areas in Abia State ( AB/MH/AD/553/1/231) irrespective of sector, cadre, discipline, institution, background, cluster and geographical location etc (we focus more on communities).
