In the next 25 years, one third of the planet’s population (2,7 billion people) will have to deal with serious water shortage. Our behaviour in The Netherlands has a big impact on water shortage elsewhere on the planet, something a lot of young people will not be aware of.\r\n\r\nThe Watercarriers for Africa are Erik Alblas (32), secondary school teacher of sociology, and Annemieke Plat (28), postwoman. Our goal is to point out the consequences of our consumptive behaviour on the scarcity of water on a global scale, especially to youngsters. On average we use 4000 litres of water a day per person, of which 95% is used in other parts of the world, producing the goods that we buy in our supermarkets. Often these places of production are the same parts of the world in which people are plagued by water scarcity.\r\n\r\nOur activities:\r\n-Starting September of 2012, we will get on our bicycles and cycle from Cape Town to Leiden; a voyage of 20.000 kilometres through some 20 countries. During our trip we will generate media-attention by writing about our experiences of (the effects of) water shortage in the places we come through, and about the shortage that we will undoubtedly experience ourselves, while cycling. We will also visit projects that are aimed at ameliorating access of clean water.\r\n-Various primary schools and colleges follow our progress as we go: we will interact with pupils via e-mail, Skype and films. Alongside, those pupils are provided with an educational programme about the use of water in The Netherlands and in Africa, and the relationship with their own patterns of consumption: what, in practical terms, can they do to reduce their use of water? Also we will generate contact between the Dutch pupils and their contemporaries in the countries we pass through.\r\n-With our trip we will collect for the financial support of local water projects.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 732, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 1237, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 1118, "latitude": 52.134955, "longitude": 5.366363, "city": "Amersfoort", "state": "", "address_1": "Laan 1914", "address_2": "", "postcode": "3818 EX", "iati_country": "NL", "country": 3, "location_target": 1237 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/b3/05/b305b8758f2966d5f4db470d95814876.jpg", "latitude": "52.134955", "longitude": "5.366363", "city": "Amersfoort", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2013-06-24T17:24:22+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:57:00.482310+01:00", "name": "Royal HaskoningDHV", "long_name": "Enhancing Society Together", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "C", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 70, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.royalhaskoningdhv.com/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "0031-883482278", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Eric Zandbergen", "contact_email": "eric.zandbergen@rhdhv.com", "description": "Royal HaskoningDHV is an independent, international engineering and project management consultancy with over 130 years of experience. The Health Commission operates under the guidance of The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), which is the highest policy making Council of Bishops responsible for the running and management of pastoral and social teaching of the Catholic Church in Malawi. The Health Commission operates within the field of HBC in terms of HIV prevention, care and support interventions based on the principles developed under the umbrella of ECM Home Based Care projects. Its vision is to have a healthy Society that is able to access improved and affordable Health Services. It identifies itself by a mission which is continuation of the healing ministry of Jesus Christ through promotion of human life by coordinating and providing affordable Health Services to rural and urban areas in Malawi. As such Health Commission is also responsible for facilitating and monitoring the quality of Health services in the diocese. The Commission works with Community Based Organisations (CBO) to reach out to the needy people in various communities within its parishes. Consequently, the implementation of interventions in HBC depends greatly on the role played by community volunteers that are closely working with the immediate caregivers. Therefore, the support the church is providing to the community groups has helped and encouraged communities to respond positively in caring and supporting the HBC clients within the respective communities. During the last three years with support from Cordaid, the Commission has a record of success stories in issues of mobilisation of community volunteers such that it has created a good network of volunteers and the health facilities within its catchment areas. It has also strengthened the community structures hence making the HBC groups sustainable.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 126, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 3424, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 5229, "latitude": -25.963373, "longitude": 32.563589, "city": "Maputo", "state": "", "address_1": "Av. Employing several thousand people, the sector has been, until recently, one of the most dynamic and fast-growing within the EU. But since 2008 the global economic crisis and its aftermath draw archaeology into a probably long lasting recession. In order to thrive again, the domain needs to explore and find new efficient and sustainable models. \r\n\r\nOn the other hand there is the acknowledged importance (cf.the Valletta and Faro Conventions) of targeting the heritage strategies towards the general public while engaging the local communities.\r\n\r\nThe project wishes to address these issues by proposing a large scale activity plan in view of obtaining tangible and usable solutions. \r\n\r\nAn EU-wide partnership has been established under the form of a network of excellence, consisting of 13 leading institutions from 10 countries which combine expertise with complementary profiles. It brings together universities, public oriented research organisations, contemporary art centres and heritage institutes.\r\n\r\nThe project’s content is structured around 6 themes, as it follows:\r\n\r\nA. Archaeology for the community: informing and involving people;\r\nB. Archaeology and the imaginary: crossroads between science and art;\r\nC. Archaeology and knowledge: teaching and sharing information;\r\nD. Archaeology in a changing economy: towards sustainability;\r\nE. European archaeology and the world: dependencies and mutual development;\r\nF. Coordination, mobility and project’s communication;\r\nA comprehensive and relevant activity plan derives from these themes. The plan includes a wide spectrum of interrelated activities, varying from scientific surveys and research to ICT applications, art performances, public outreach and community engagement initiatives.", "notes": "19-05-2014 Lissy: Added NEARCH as a support partner, as they have a contract with Commonsites about the use of RSR.
