This flagship project is being supported by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through the Ministry of Health, who are currently conducting a Randomised Control Trial through IPA (Innovations for Poverty Action) to establish the impact of CHCs on community health. \r\n\r\nOur team is a dedicated group of local development practitioners based out of Zimbabwe and Rwanda, committed to assisting rural and urban communities in developing countries improve their standards of living through safe hygiene, water, sanitation and poverty alleviation, women's empowerment, food security and sustainable livelihoods using Community Health Clubs as a vehicle for change. \r\n\r\nTo this end we provide assistance in all aspects of a CHC programme, including feasibility, design, development of training materials, training of trainers, research, monitoring and evaluation, and are the foremost organization for research, dissemination, advocacy and mentoring in the Community Health Club Approach. \r\n\r\nWe support local and international NGOs, Agencies and particularly strengthening Environmental Health Departments within Ministries of Health in Africa. Building of class rooms for basic education is a very important one. In this project we are building toilets in the schools of basic education. The funding actvitity starts with children of the elementary education in Eindhoven Walk for Water. The amount they collect is doubled by three organisations Brabant Water, Waterschap de Dommel and the Gemeente Eindhoven. Sometimes there are also gifts from other people, like the Ambassador of Sudan in The Hague and a former ambassador for Holland in Khartoum. After that action the total amount is doubled by the Aqua for All organisation. In our case it is used to build toilets. \r\n\r\nThere is also a project to help families improve their income by cultivating vegatables and selling or changing them for other items. The next year they continue with this activity as they are taught by students of the Agricultural University to save the seeds to be able to continue this income generating activity. If the children of these families do not go to school they are sponored for one year by the project. After that first year we find that the children continue going to school due to the improved financial position. We also notice that the diet of the family changes as they have access now to fresh vegetables. This project has added some more activities for families to improve the family income: caring for 15 chickes, which provide eggs for selling but also for use of the family of course. Another activity is to care for a milky goat and to sell part of the milk. The nex step was to provide a number of improved males to have off spring for the goats after the milk can no longer be produced. So now the young animals are given to another family so they can also produce milk.\r\nTwo new items were introduced in 2009: Planting shade and fruit trees inside the area of the house to produce fruit and to improve the conditions by providing shade in the living ares.\r\nThe other innovation is to provide gas units for women working in the markets to make coffee and tea to sell and food for the people who are working on the market all day. The gas is about 40% cheaper than using charcoal for cooking and it also saves the need to cut trees.\r\n\r\nWith the support of SPEG another twinning between organisations was started by the Digitale Stad Eindhoven (DSE) and Gedaref Digital City Organisation (GDCO). DSE sent several shipments of second hand refurbished computers to Gedaref to be used for training purposes in Gedaref. Now 700 computers are in Gedaref and used for educational purposes in schools during the normal school day and for adult education in the evenings. Also a number of telecentres have been established were people can work on the computers if they want to use them for study or for internet use. \r\n ", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 565, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 638, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 42, "latitude": 0.325345, "longitude": 32.5767, "city": "Kampala", "state": "", "address_1": "Plot 29 Nakasero Rd", "address_2": "PO Box 10663 ", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "UG", "country": 21, "location_target": 638 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/60/ca/60ca6a45f95240c1a367611b5553d26c.jpg", "latitude": "0.325345", "longitude": "32.5767", "city": "Kampala", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-03-28T09:56:25+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2016-12-30T14:24:17.963125+01:00", "name": "AMREF Uganda", "long_name": "AMREF Uganda", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.amref.org/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+256 414 250319 ", "mobile": "", "fax": "+256 414 344565", "contact_person": "Joshua Kyallo", "contact_email": "info.uganda@amref.org", "description": "The African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) is an international African organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.\r\n\r\nAMREF's vision is Better Health for Africa:.\r\nAMREF's mission is to ensure that every African can enjoy the right to good health by helping to create vibrant networks of informed communities that work with empowered health care providers in strong health systems.
