"description": "Dark & Light Foundation (now LIGHT FOR THE WORLD The Netherlands) was founded in 1982 by Dutch ophthalmologist Dr. Martien Cozijnsen and his wife Jenny. During a trip to Thailand they discovered tremendous needs among blind children in that country. Not only because of their physical handicap, but also because of the stigma and rejection they face. Education was not available for blind children. That was the reason to start a foundation.\r\n\r\nThrough the years\r\nThrough the years the small family foundation has grown to a well-organized foundation that has become an important party in helping the blind and visually impaired in developing countries. The foundation found, and still finds, its inspiration in the Gospel that calls upon us to reach out to the poor and the underpriviliged.\r\n\r\nExtended\r\nThe primary mission of LIGHT FOR THE WORLD The Netherlands was to educate blind children. Later on, the field of work broadened. We discoverd that a lot of children become needlessly blind, so prevention and treatment of blindness was added. Also there came a demand to help people who were irreversibly blind. Rehabilitation and low vision services were added. In recent years the focus has switched to inclusive development. That means that the society is equipped for equal participation of persons with a disability.\r\n\r\nLIGHT FOR THE WORLD\r\nIn 2011 Dark & Light joined LIGHT FOR THE WORLD, a European confederation of national development NGOs committed to saving eyesight, improving the quality of life and advocating for the rights of person with disabilities in the underprivileged regions of our world. LIGHT FOR THE WORLD has members in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic and The Netherlands.\r\n\r\nSince 2012, Dark & Light Foundation is called LIGHT FOR THE WORLD The Netherlands. As a confederation member we still have our own identity, mission, vision, board and staff.\r\n\r\nLIGHT FOR THE WORLD The Netherlands supports about 40 projects in 11 countries in Africa and Asia. On a yearly basis about 5 million euro is spent on projects. The office is based in Veenendaal, The Netherlands with about 14 staff. Also an office was established in South Sudan with 2 staff.",

"description": "The Kibii Foundation is a new and ambitious organization in Suriname founded by a group of people determined to make a change in the lives of hundreds of people in the district of Marowijne. This district where traditional maroon lifestyle and culture are threatened with demise and the young people from its communities fail to see any possibilities for a hopeful future, is offered a new lease on life by the establishment of the Kibii foundation.\r\n\r\nArtist and native of the district of Marowijne Marcel Pinas (Pelgrimkondre, 1971), together with other members of the foundation and a team of local and international supporters, have initiated the Marowijne Project. With its center of activities located in the city of Moengo, the Marowijne Project draws upon the strengths of the art and culture of this beautifully diverse nation to build a new and positive future for the war struck and subsequently neglected communities of Marowijne.\r\n\r\nThe Kibii Foundation aims to create future perspectives for the youth of Marowijne in their own homesteads. In order to achieve this, the organization will create a multitude of developmental opportunities through an Art Park and a Multi-Cultural Center in the district of Marowijne, based upon the promotion of art, culture and tourism.",

In this regard, we are both an experienced bank and a development institution with financing expertise, an expert knowledge of development policy and many years of national and international experience. On behalf of the German Federal Government, and primarily the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), we finance and support programmes and projects that mainly involve public sector players in developing countries and emerging economies – from their conception and execution to monitoring their success. Our goal is to help our partner countries fight poverty, maintain peace, protect both the environment and the climate and shape globalisation in an appropriate way.",

"description": "Training for the Water Sector started in 1960 with a unit in the Hydraulic Department of Public Works to train water supply operators. In 1970, the unit was upgraded to a training section under the same Department. When the Water Department was transformed to a fully-fledged Ministry of Water Development in 1974, the training section became the Water Development Staff Training School. In 1985, the Institute became a national water training institution and was henceforth referred to as Kenya Water Institute (KEWI). An Act of Parliament to establish the Kenya Water Institute was enacted by Parliament in 2001 and assented to by the President on 31st December 2001. According to the KEWI ACT (No.11 of 2001) the Institute is a semi-autonomous corporate body serving the entire water sector in Kenya. The Applied Water Department was merged by training to form the new KEWI in 2003.",

"description": "The Kenya Water and Sanitation Network (KEWASNET) was founded in August 2007 to enable civil society organizations involved in the Water and Sanitation Sector (WSS) to work in a coordinated manner.\r\n\r\nThe overall purpose of the Network is to ensure that Kenyans have access to affordable and safe water and sanitation services in a sustainable context. The membership is drawn from civil society organizations that are working to improve water resource management and increase efficiency in service delivery in water and sanitation services. \r\n\r\nBroadly, KEWASNET provides a linkage between service providers and consumers by facilitating partnerships between policy makers and stakeholders and encouraging equitable participation by all parties in governance and decision-making mechanisms. \r\nOrganizational identity \r\nKEWASNET is registered as a non-governmental voluntary, non-partisan and non-profit trust under the Kenyan Trustees Act. Nationwide recruitment of member civil society organizations is ongoing so as to continuously increase citizen participation in the management of Kenya’s water and sanitation services. \r\n\r\nThe participation of civil society organizations in all-important decision-making about management of water resources is legitimized in the Water Act 2002. In keeping with the main principles outlined in the Water Act2002, KEWASNET seeks broader participation in the monitoring and evaluation of policy implementation and in all areas related to the management of water resources and services. \r\n\r\nThis is to ensure that the development of water resources and access to water services is socially acceptable to different citizen groups, especially marginalized communities. A related aim is to ensure that the supply of water to the poor is achieved through government and its agencies, at acceptable levels, and in compliance with the provisions of the Water Act 2002.",

By providing financial support, technical assistance and other support services, CRS helps partners effectively serve the people of Kenya.\r\n\r\nCatholic Relief Services has been working in Kenya since 1965. Initially, activities predominantly focused on emergency relief, helping communities to survive droughts and food shortages, and maternal and child health programs. Over the years, CRS' focus in Kenya has shifted from direct relief and food distribution to a comprehensive development program that works through about 50 local partners. CRS Kenya programs now support children orphaned by AIDS and people with HIV, community-based efforts to increase household incomes, improve family and community livelihoods, health and sanitation, promote peace and prevent early marriages of girls. In 2011, CRS launched a massive response to support Somalian refugees in the Dadaab camp in eastern Kenya.",
