"description": "Rainbows4children is an independent foundation set up in memory of Nicolas Robinson (son of the founder) and provides education for disadvantaged children in Ethiopia – primarily the children of adults suffering from disabilities such as loss of limbs and blindness. 100% of donations go directly to the educational projects. This is made possible because all the administration work is carried out entirely by unpaid volunteers. The patron of Rainbows4children is the renowned BBC journalist, Michael Buerk.\nOur charter is to:\n1. Help young people in Ethiopia to have better lives, with a primary focus on education.\n2. Be organised in a fully transparent way, with full accountability to our donors. 100% of all money raised will be spent on children.\n3. Provide feedback to donors on all projects.\n4. Look for sustainable projects, which eventually can be maintained and funded by the local community.\n5. Select projects, which are catalytic in nature. Relatively small amounts of money can provide training, which enables local people to help each other.\n6. Provide assistance regardless of gender, politics or religion.",

"description": "QuaWaterTM develops and delivers products and projects that significantly improve the quality of people’s drinking water. A combination of experience in delivering successful village projects and producing high quality consumer products enables us to offer innovative and cost-effective solutions in both markets.\r\n\r\nQuaWater was incorporated in South Africa in 2003 and is run by a team of dedicated people with backgrounds in science, water analysis, medical practice, business, engineering, and design. Our head office is located in Pretoria and we have regional representations in Kenya, Mozambique and Sudan. \r\n\r\nQuaWater aims to deliver healthy drinking water at fair prices, encouraging users to ensure themselves of the quality of this most vital necessity, while promoting solutions for maintenance and cost-recovery.\r\n\r\nThe QuaWater Village SolutionTM is a stand-alone system for providing multi-purpose water treatment for small settlements and villages. It uses a combination of proven technologies to purify contaminated ground or surface water and supply safe drinking water for the people. Depending on local needs other features, like utility water for washing or water for cattle and irrigation can be added. QuaWater implements the Village Solution as turn key projects jointly with the local population and/or local partners such as non-governmental organizations, community based organizations, businesses and governments. The projects can be offered as public-private partnerships. QuaWater actively involves community members in decision making and management of the project. Managers are appointed from the local population and trained for operating and maintaining the unit.\r\n\r\n",

We ensure access to universal, high quality, comprehensive healthcare including primary care and care for infectious diseases such as malaria.\r\n2. We integrate healthcare with education, microfinance, and community mobilization to address the root causes of poverty and disease.\r\n3. We partner with the poor in destitute communities. We listen to their needs, assets, and priorities. We bring together local wisdom and international expertise.\r\n4. We strengthen and compliment the public sector, avoid building parallel systems, and advocate for evidence-based policy change.\r\n5. We are serious about measuring impact, and we practice evidence-based development.\r\n",

The office of Plan International in Switzerland first opened its doors in Zurich in 2006.\r\n\r\nPlan seeks to involve children in all stages of its projects, from planning through implementation. We believe it is essential for the sustainable success of a project to listen to children, give them the opportunity to freely express their opinion and to involve them in all processes. In addition to the projects on site, we are also committed to making sure the rights and interests of children are realised at an international policy level.\r\n\r\nWe focus on supporting girls because they often suffer the most from poverty and its consequences. Home to more people than any other African country and a political system broken into more than 36 states and 700 localities, Pact works across multiple sectors and actors to combat corruption, promote democracy and improve health.

"description": "\r\nNRT – Our Commitment to Change\r\nIn the harsh environment of northern Kenya, pastoralist communities struggle with frequent droughts, poor health care, sparse government services and the threats posed by cattle rustling and ivory poaching. At the same time, ethnic rivalries continue to hinder development and disrupt lives. However, all this is beginning to change, thanks to a new movement based on community conservation\r\n\r\nHow NRT works\r\nNRT was established in 2004. Its mission is to develop resilient secure peace and conserve natural resources. It does this in a number of ways. It raises funds for the conservancies. It provides them with advice on how to manage their affairs. It supports a wide range of training and helps broker agreements between conservancies and investors. It also monitors performance, providing donors with a degree of oversight and quality assurance.\r\nNRT’s highest governing body is the Council of Elders. The chairs of the conservancies make up the majority, and are joined by institutional members representing county councils, local wildlife forums, the Kenya Wildlife Service and the private sector. The Council guides NRT policy and is responsible for drawing up the bylaws for its operation and administration. It also appoints eight of the 15-member Board of Directors, to whom the chief executive officer is answerable.\r\nNRT is now widely seen as a model of how to support community conservancies. Its success has helped shape new government regulations on establishing, registering and managing community conservancies in Kenya.\r\n\r\nThe role of community conservancies \r\nBy the end of 2014, 27 community conservancies, operating under the umbrella of the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), were managing over 30,000 km² of land and safeguarding the future of a wide range of species, from elephant to Grevy’s zebra, from the endangered hirola to rhinoceros. With more than 60% of Kenya’s wildlife living outside formally protected areas, community conservancies will assume ever greater importance.\r\n\r\nImpact on Wildlife, Environment and Livelihood\r\n\r\nThe conservancies have brought about significant improvements in rangeland management and helped to stabilize, and frequently increase, wildlife populations. The area of land with significant biodiversity under improved conservation management increased from 5,400 km² in 2008 to over 27,400 km² in 2013. Conservancy rangers, supported by NRT, are play¬ing a significant role in tackling ivory poaching and other wild¬life crimes. Just as importantly, the conservancies have helped to bring peace and security to areas which have been plagued by violent conflict. \r\nWith the help of NRT, the conservancies created over 800 per¬manent jobs, and a further 830 casual jobs, in 2013, and im¬proved the welfare of a significant proportion of the 320,000 people whom they serve. They have generated millions of dol¬lars of investment, brought much-needed services to remote areas – for example, over 1,810 young people benefited from school and university bursaries in 2013 – and helped to change the mindsets of marginalized communities, who are now in¬creasingly willing to take charge of their own destinies.\r\n",

Under these committees are working groups which address natural resource management, social justice, leadership and governance, livestock development and development education (gender, HIV/AIDS, children rights).\r\n\r\nProgramme design and coordination is facilitated by the Secretariat and Board of Advisory Management (BOAM), the latter’s role being mainly advisory. At policy formulation level, strategic direction, leadership and governance is the Board of Directors.",
