"description": "RNW Media: a media organisation for social change. In parts of the world where change is hard to achieve because freedom of speech is restricted, we use media to make lives better.\r\nWe work with people aged 15 to 30. If you want to change society, young people are the ones who make a difference. But to shape a better future, they need information. So we help them get access to independent journalism and media.\r\n\r\nOur three core themes are democracy and good governance, sexual health and rights and international justice. This reflects the ideals of our home country the Netherlands, with its democratic tradition, open-minded attitude to sexuality and global standing as the home of the International Criminal Court.\r\n\r\nCreating communities\r\nWe have a talented team of young journalists and specialists from all over the world, who are passionate about the value of their work. And unique to RNW Media is our close relationship with partner organisations and citizens in our target regions. We talk, we team up, we work together on an equal footing. We draw on local expertise to co-create and exchange content. Our vast network isn’t just about media production, it’s about people. We build and connect communities.\r\n\r\nRNW Media is devoted to using media in innovative ways, leaving behind old models of broadcasting and news production. We help young media producers to connect with their audiences, in specific communities, using persuasive storytelling. Our training centre RNTC believes in creativity and fresh approaches to content. And we’re excited by the way social media and the world online brings people together.\r\n\r\nMedia with the courage for change\r\nRNW Media works with countries where freedom of expression is severely restricted. The list today includes China and 17 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Arab world. We give access to information that isn’t available in the local media because of laws or taboos.\r\n",

"description": "For almost 100 years we have been working for equality and the human rights of women and girls to water and sanitation. We do this together with partners in 10 African and Asian countries. Our goal is a world in which all women and girls can exercise their right to water and sanitation, resulting in a healthier and more just society. \r\n\r\nIn a rapidly changing world grappling with major crises in the areas of climate, health and human rights, Simavi focuses on three areas where we believe we can achieve the greatest impact with our projects, lobbying and campaigns: equality, climate and power. \r\n\r\nWe want to increase the involvement and leadership of women in water and sanitation. We believe that women's and girls' access to climate-resilient water and sanitation is at the heart of climate justice. We are also convinced that women's voices and expertise are crucial for change when it comes to water and sanitation. \r\n\r\nOur work is part of the Sustainable Development Goals and Simavi focuses specifically on three interconnected SDGs: water and sanitation (SDG6); gender equality (SDG5) and climate (SDG13).

SNV’s support to these local government structures is well recognised. SNV has also played an important role in the revival of the cashew sector through its support to small scale processing units, including access to fair trade markets.\r\n\r\nSNV works in the agriculture, water and sanitation and renewable energy sectors.\r\n\r\nSNV's operations in Mozambique are managed in three offices, Nampula covering the north, Chimoio covering the centre and in the capital Maputo.",

"description": "Founded in the Netherlands in 1965, we have built a long-term, local presence in many of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our global team of local and international advisors work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development. \r\n\r\nOur mission is to make a lasting difference in the lives of millions of people living in poverty. \r\n\r\nBy sharing our specialist expertise in Agriculture, Energy and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, we contribute to solving some of the leading problems facing the world today – helping to find local solutions to global challenges and sowing the seeds of lasting change. We recognise that sustained poverty reduction requires people living in poverty to both contribute to and benefit from growth while having access to quality basic services. With this in mind, our work focuses on enabling the four factors we have learnt are essential for successful development: inclusive development, systemic change, local ownership, and contextualised solutions.\r\n\r\nNext to our many country offices in Asia, Africa and Latin America, we also have an affiliate office in Washington D.C. SNV USA’s primary goal is to connect North American partners and donors to a global network of technical advisors implementing innovative solutions to alleviate poverty through sustainable and locally-led development.",

The revenue Sympany generates through the collection, sorting and selling textiles is put in to help people from disadvantaged situations. Every year the organisation provides around 20 million kilograms of clothing and other textiles a second life. It will be worn again and recycled into new products. In addition, Sympany provides employment opportunities for people with a distance to the labor market. All clothing is sold. The money goes through the foundation affiliated Sympany⁺ to projects in DR Congo, Malawi, Angola and India to self-reliance and sustainability with an increasing focus on the textile industry. Sympany wants to teach farmers to get more from their land without additional burden on the environment. Sympany trains students in practical professions as seamstress and keep everything they do, the balance between people, planet and value in mind.",

"description": "Tropenbos International (TBI) is a non -governmental non-profit organization. It was created in 1986 as a Dutch response to increasing concerns about the disappearance and degradation of tropical rain forests worldwide. Now, 25 years later, TBI is thriving.\r\n\r\nOver the years, TBI has established itself as an important platform for the forest and development agenda, both in developing countries and internationally. It has built a reputation for improving knowledge and personal and institutional capacity in order to support better management and governance of tropical forest resources in a range of programme countries. With the support of the Government of the Netherlands, TBI has achieved a respected position on tropical forest issues. As a knowledge broker and a platform for discussion, TBI supports forest dialogue and development in the common interest of developing countries and the Netherlands.\r\n\r\nIn TBI’s vision, tropical forests have critical contributions to make in providing the range of goods and services required by local communities and the people of the world. Well-managed forests — as components of productive landscapes — can simultaneously contribute to the objectives of alleviating poverty, providing ecosystem services and fostering sustainable economic development.\r\n\r\nAny real long-term improvement in the use and conservation of forests requires knowledge and skills. Public, corporate and civil society decision makers — with access to credible knowledge and independent information — are more likely to make decisions that are fair and sustainable. Informed decision making also requires strong individual, organizational and institutional governance and management capacities across the forest sector and beyond, as well as effective multi-actor networks and platforms for sharing knowledge. \r\n\r\nTBI’s mission is to improve tropical forest governance and management in order to support conservation and sustainable development.",

"description": "At the Mastercard Foundation, we know that employment is a leading pathway out of poverty for young people and their families. In Africa, the world’s youngest continent, youth employment is a particularly important measure of poverty reduction.\r\n\r\nAfrica’s young people are building a better future for the continent, but they cannot do it alone. We believe in their potential — and we are honoured to accompany them on their journey.\r\n\r\nThe Mastercard Foundation seeks a world where everyone has the opportunity to learn and prosper. The Foundation’s work is guided by its mission to advance learning and promote financial inclusion for people living in poverty. One of the largest foundations in the world, it works almost exclusively in Africa. It was created in 2006 by Mastercard International and operates independently under the governance of its own Board of Directors.\r\n\r\nThe Foundation is currently working in 29 countries across Africa. With Young Africa Works, we will deepen our engagement in some countries in partnership with governments and the private sector to better understand their economic aspirations and identify priority sectors for growth.\r\n\r\nWe will develop a long-term plan for each country of focus that will:\r\n* Improve the quality of education and vocational training so that they equip young people with the skills employers need;\r\n* Leverage technology to connect employers and job seekers, and drive growth; and\r\n* Enable entrepreneurs and small businesses to expand through access to financial services.",

"description": "UNDP is the United Nations' global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 177 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.\r\n\r\nWorld leaders have pledged to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, including the overarching goal of cutting poverty in half by 2015. UNDP's network links and coordinates global and national efforts to reach these Goals. Our focus is helping countries build and share solutions to the challenges of:\r\n\r\nDemocratic Governance\r\nPoverty Reduction\r\nCrisis Prevention & Recovery\r\nEnvironment & Energy\r\nHIV/AIDS\r\n\r\nUNDP helps developing countries attract and use aid effectively. In all our activities, we encourage the protection of human rights, capacity development and the empowerment of women.\r\n\r\nThe annual Human Development Report, commissioned by UNDP, focuses the global debate on key development issues, providing new measurement tools, innovative analysis and often controversial policy proposals. The global Report's analytical framework and inclusive approach carry over into regional, national and local Human Development Reports, also supported by UNDP.\r\n\r\nIn each country office, the UNDP Resident Representative normally also serves as the Resident Coordinator of development activities for the United Nations system as a whole. Through such coordination, UNDP seeks to ensure the most effective use of UN and international aid resources.",

"description": "UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized.\r\nWe have the global authority to influence decision-makers, and the variety of partners at grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. We believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. We believe that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity.\r\nWe advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.",

Together with our partners, we work to translate that commitment into practical action, especially for the most disadvantaged children. \r\n\r\nIn the Pacific we work in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu: These 14 Pacific island countries are home to 2.3 million people, including 1.2 million children and youth, living on more than 660 islands and atolls stretching across 17.2 million square kilometres of the Pacific Ocean, an area comparable to the combined size of the United States of America and Canada.\r\n\r\nKiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu are classified as Fragile States according to World Bank/OECD criteria. All 14 Pacific island countries have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, but only a third are on track with reporting obligations.",
