"description": "SEEtrust (2007) is a private Dutch-South African initiative focusing on integrating social and economic development in the Johannesburg area – through establishing entrepreneurial partnerships.\r\n\r\nIn these partnerships entrepreneurial people from informal settlements and SEEtrust join forces to create jobs through economic activity, improve the quality of social and educational programmes, ensure structural sources of income for social programs, and start up small commercial activities. These partnerships allow all people involved to grow their talents and enable individuals and communities to create a better future for themselves.\r\n\r\nSEE stands for Social and Economical Empowerment. SEE also stands for seeing: seeing possibilities, seeing others, seeing strengths, seeing a future. Trust stands for a business trust, and also for trusting: trusting people and their abilities, trusting the creative potential of partnerships.\r\n\r\nWomen entrepreneurship:\r\n\r\nWomen are major players in social development, because of their natural tendency to focus on the well-being of children and communities as a whole. In poor communities where children are very vulnerable and family-structures are fragile (because of the Aids epidemic, high unemployment and substance abuse), that focus is much needed.\r\n\r\nOur aim is to establish partnerships between entrepreneurial women in South Africa and the Netherlands. Women who want to address societal issues, and who – to make a real impact – do so by joining forces with other entrepreneurial women.\r\n\r\nOur activities focus on:\r\n- connecting people, opportunities and resources: we connect entrepreneurial women with one another, with markets, with investors and/or sponsors\r\n- enabling mutual learning: we organise network meetings (locally and internationally), so that participants can act as a source of inspiration, support and learning for each other\r\n- developing expertise and know-how: we will research – in collaboration with univerisities – what the key factors are in growing women entrepreneurship and developing healthy, self-sustaining communities",

"description": "The Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a women’s trade union that was started in Gujarat in 1972 by Smt. Elaben Bhatt, with the aim of organising women in the informal sector. SEWA represents the convergence of three movements: the labour movement, the women’s movement and the cooperative movement. Based on the philosophy of Gandhiji, SEWA’s goal is to achieve full employment and self-reliance for all its members. \r\n\r\nSEWA defines ‘full employment’ as employment that provides work security, income security, food security and social security. ‘Self-reliance’ refers to economic self–sufficiency and equitable roles in the decision-making process. These goals are achieved through a strategy of “struggle and development”. The struggle is against the many constraints imposed on women by society and the economy, and the development activities are aimed to strengthen women's collective bargaining power and provide them with sustainable new alternatives.\r\n\r\nGenesis of SEWA Bharat: \r\n\r\nSEWA’s experience in Gujarat provided encouragement to women in other states as well, with sister organizations being set up in a total of nine states till date. Together, these sister organizations constitute SEWA Bharat, the All-India Federation of Self Employed Women’s Associations. SEWA’s mandate is to highlight the issues of women working in the informal sector, and to strengthen the capacity of the different organizations that serve them. SEWA Bharat is a membership-based organization.\r\n\r\nLocal community health workers are the cornerstone of SEWA’s health program. Known as sathis, SEWA health workers serve the entire community, and work to organize SEWA members in their villages and neighbourhoods. They are educators, service providers and advocates. \r\n\r\n Objective: \r\nThe objectives of SEWA’s health programme are as follows:\r\n1. To build the community's capacity to demand their sexual and reproductive rights within a broader framework of the rights to health and social security \r\n2. To work with partners to bridge the gap in government services and increase the availability subsidized or free sexual, reproductive and other health services and advocating for availability, accessibility and quality of public services.\r\nSome of the schemes that SEWA actively works on are:\r\n• Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY Maternity benefit for institutional delivery)\r\n• Minority schemes\r\n• National Rural Employment Guarantee Act \r\n• RSBY- insurance for BPL families\r\n• Indira Avas Yojana\r\n• Ladli: Education of the girl child\r\n• Old age and widow pension\r\n• Worker schemes: ex. Bidi cards and entitlements, \r\n• Death benefits\r\n• Disability certification and benefits\r\n• Birth, death and BPL certificates",

"description": "The International Secretariat for Water (ISW) and Solidarity Water Europe (SWE) form a movement bringing together citizens and organizations who are committed advocates for water. Their commitment is to ensure that all people have access to drinking water and sanitation in accordance with the Montreal Charter and Strasbourg Declaration, the movement’s founding documents. The ISW is based in Montreal, Canada, and SEE is based in Strasbourg, France.\r\n\r\nBuilding on evolving knowledge, innovative partnerships and creativity, ISW-SWE develops initiatives that uphold the universal right to water, while preserving the resources for future generations. The network and its partners build bridges and enable dialogue between all stakeholders — government, civil society, education and the private sector.\r\n\r\nOur activities fall under three spheres of action:\r\n\r\nField projects;\r\nAdvocacy and awareness;\r\nYouth outreach.\r\nWe have a special focus on smaller rural and semi-urban communities, where the need for adequate infrastructure is often greatest. Using watersheds as a framework, we help communities implement integrated water resource management.",

"description": "The Silentworld Foundation was founded with the purpose of supporting maritime archaeology in Australia, especially relative to pre-colonial and early colonial history.\r\n\r\nAustralia has an extremely rich maritime history and yet despite the tremendous efforts over the years of many institutions throughout Australia, we still know surprisingly little about the wrecking of many historically important vessels known to have been lost in or near Australia. There also remains a great deal to be discovered about early seafarers' contacts with Australia, from Macassar traders and the explorers from Spain, The Netherlands, Britain, France and other nations, through to eventual colonisation with the arrival of the first fleet in 1788. The reefs and shoals that surround our coastline are literally dotted with wrecks, more than some 6,000 by some counts, and yet only a small percentage of these have ever been found, identified, researched and properly documented.",
