Elaben Bhatt, with the aim of organising women in the informal sector. SEWA represents the convergence of three movements: the labour movement, the women’s movement and the cooperative movement. Based on the philosophy of Gandhiji, SEWA’s goal is to achieve full employment and self-reliance for all its members. \r\n\r\nSEWA defines ‘full employment’ as employment that provides work security, income security, food security and social security. ‘Self-reliance’ refers to economic self–sufficiency and equitable roles in the decision-making process. These goals are achieved through a strategy of “struggle and development”. The struggle is against the many constraints imposed on women by society and the economy, and the development activities are aimed to strengthen women's collective bargaining power and provide them with sustainable new alternatives.\r\n\r\nGenesis of SEWA Bharat: \r\n\r\nSEWA’s experience in Gujarat provided encouragement to women in other states as well, with sister organizations being set up in a total of nine states till date. Together, these sister organizations constitute SEWA Bharat, the All-India Federation of Self Employed Women’s Associations. SEWA’s mandate is to highlight the issues of women working in the informal sector, and to strengthen the capacity of the different organizations that serve them. SEWA Bharat is a membership-based organization.\r\n\r\nLocal community health workers are the cornerstone of SEWA’s health program. Known as sathis, SEWA health workers serve the entire community, and work to organize SEWA members in their villages and neighbourhoods. They are educators, service providers and advocates. \r\n\r\n Objective: \r\nThe objectives of SEWA’s health programme are as follows:\r\n1. To build the community's capacity to demand their sexual and reproductive rights within a broader framework of the rights to health and social security \r\n2. Also we found funds to build training places for those children who liked to work with their hands.\r\nThis resulted in a garage, a weavery, a welding- and a furniture workshop.\r\nAll of them are now self sufficient. \r\n\r\n GOALS\r\n In time our goals changed from only supporting children from poor\r\n families to get an education and helping schools.\r\n We still help poor children to get an education but we were also able to build our own Educational, Social and Cultural Centre(see DVD). \r\n\r\n ACTIVITIES.\r\na. At the moment we have an(almost) free kindergarten visited by 35\r\n children who could otherwise not go to school. \r\nb. We have an extracurricular teaching program for primary\r\n school children. Visited by 115 children. Teaching topics are:\r\n 1. English conversation and grammar.\r\n 2. World Orientation.\r\n 3. Art / computer abilities / mathematics and science.\r\nc. On Sundays a similar program for 50 children from Junior and\r\n Senior Highschool. For them there are also debating groups and\r\n homework assistence. Teaching topics are\r\n 1. English conversation and grammar.\r\n 2. World Orientation and science.\r\n\r\nd. Our main interest at the moment though is the training of young\r\n teachers with the objective to propagate the modern (for Indonesia\r\n innovative) teaching methods in more places in Bali and One of SHIPO’s core goals is to achieve improved water, hygieneSHIPO is a Tanzanian Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), based in Iringa Region, Njombe District, about 5 km South of Njombe town centre along the Makambako-Songea Tarmac and Main Road.\r\n\r\nSHIPO has been registered under Ministry of Home Affairs as Non Governmental Organization Society on 07 May 2001 and provided with Certificate of Compliance number 1629 under the Non-Governmental Organisation Act 2 section 11(3) of Act 24 of 2002 on the 27th of September 2005 and allowed to operate in the whole mainland of Tanzania.\r\n\r\nSHIPO facilitates people in rural villages and community based organisations (CBO’s) to plan and execute small scale self-help projects in the districts of Njombe, Ludewa and Mufindi. SHIPO’s aim is to facilitate organised groups (communities and women groups) in the successfully implementation of self-help projects that contributes to the improvement of living standards and the alleviation of poverty. Such projects include environmental health programs (gravity water supply systems, hydro water schemes and the low cost drilling technology of boreholes with rope pumps together with hygiene promotion and sanitation facilities), construction of primary schools, primary health care centres, and agricultural improvements at village level. HIV/AIDS and gender are crosscutting issues taken up in the projects. SHIPO also supports handicapped children, mostly through the cooperation with the CCBRT Disability Hospital in Dar es Salaam.\r\n \r\n2.0 GOAL\r\n\r\n2.1 Vision\r\nOver a period of 10 years SHIPO will have contributed significantly to sustained improvements in the living standards of poor people in Tanzania.\r\n\r\n2.3 Mission\r\nTo contribute effectively to a sustained improvements in the living standards of poor people in Tanzania through facilitation of self-help projects, based on the priorities, needs and capacities of people and civil society organisations, to achieve increased organisational capacity, improved educational and environmental health ( hygiene and sanitation) awareness and facilities (water supply, school buildings and health facilities) with groups of people/ communities and within the districts as a whole. \r\nand sanitation conditions in rural areas through the implementation of simple, affordable and locally produced techniques (Smart Tecs).
