"description": "Amref is de belangrijkste Afrikaanse gezondheidsorganisatie; in Nederland heten we Amref Flying Doctors. In Afrika heten we Amref Health Africa. ",

But unfortunately, disasters caused by human interventions and natural calamities have caused severe damages to the environment, ecology, and biodiversity of the region. Thus human lives and livelihoods have become vulnerable.\r\nIt was in such a situation that in 1999 a group of young energetic and socially committed enthusiasts got together and formed ‘AOSED-An Organization for Socio-Economic Development’ for conserving environment, ecology and biodiversity and ensuring people's right of access to natural resource towards alleviation of poverty.\r\n\r\nMission \r\nConserve environment, ecology and biodiversity. Uphold people's rights of access to common and natural resources towards alleviation of poverty, upholding human rights and good governance.\r\n\r\nVision\r\nDevelop a just, prosperous and environment-friendly Society in which there will be no discrimination whatsoever.",

Because of national, regional and local ambitions, Apa-Canal S.A. Galati faces the challenge to improve the existing installations for the production and delivery of drinking water and for the collection, transportation and purification of waste water for the purpose of supplying as many inhabitants in the county of Galati as possible with safe and sustainable drinking water and waste water systems. For the realisation of these ambitions, Apa-Canal S.A. Galati is interested in Water Operator Partnership in which knowledge and experience with respect to drinking water and waste water services is acquired and shared. This partnership can relate to technical, administrative, management and governance affairs.",

"description": "Agua Para el Pueblo (APP) is a Honduran NGO that has been working for 20 years developing water treatment projects while performing with a high degree of professionalism, responsibility, and competence.\r\nAPP’s varied contributions in terms of technologies, boarding methodologies, and conceptual definitions have been important in the development of water treatment sub-sectors in Honduras . Currently, APP is involved in a renovation project that will bring great exposure to the new sector-based judicial system (Ley Marco del Sub Sector de Agua y Saneamiento). This new law includes experimenting with new decentralization and municipal participation efforts on a local level to aid construction, administration, and sustainability of water treatment as well as other environmental systems.\r\nAPP’s technical services have been characterized by their reach beyond construction. We also facilitate cooperation in the areas of research, documentation, evaluation, production of executive materials, and inter-institutional & inter-sector coordination to modernize the Honduran sub-sectors.\r\nActing as the pioneer organization of the civil society in search of solution to the demands of water treatment, APP reiterates its compromise of continuous work, focusing particularly on the less-privileged communities of the rural areas and developing urban zones. APP has promised to arduously work to integrate the family unit as a base towards improving the community, utilizing the skills and dexterity of women and children to allow them to become active participants in community solutions. This way, these two groups can alleviate the burden of lacking the water supply they deserve.",

"description": "Aqua for All is a not-for-profit organisation operating in Africa and Asia. For almost two decades, we have worked towards catalysing an innovative, sustainable and inclusive water and sanitation economy worldwide.\r\n\r\nWe believe that innovation, scalable solutions, and public and private capital are needed to bridge the service and financial gap to achieve SDG 6 – Water and sanitation for all.\r\n\r\nWe use grants to accelerate providing access to water and sanitation to low-income households and institutions. We do this by supporting innovations and scaling up enterprises until they are investment ready, without distorting the market. In addition, we use our funds to mobilise private and public capital to increase investments in water and sanitation.\r\n\r\nWe are Making Water Count!\r\n\r\nFor more information, please visit: aquaforall.org",

"description": "The Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) is a secular body that helps the major religions of the world to develop their own environmental programmes, based on their own core teachings, beliefs and practices. \r\n\r\nWe help the religions link with key environmental organisations – creating powerful alliances between faith communities and conservation groups.\r\n\r\nMore and more secular agencies now recognise the importance of working with religions, and the significant work of faith groups on environmental issues is growing rapidly.\r\n\r\nCurrent programmes range from assisting Christian, Muslim and Hindu groups in sub-Saharan Africa to develop long-term environmental action plans; helping the faiths make their sacred places more sustainable through the world's first Green Pilgrimage Network; working with Daoists and Buddhists in Asia (particularly China) to make their teachings on protecting nature more relevant to today's generations; and harnessing the faiths’ authority to end the illegal wildlife trade.\r\n\r\nARC was founded in 1995 by HRH Prince Philip. We now work with 11 major faiths through the key traditions within each faith. We are not funded by any faith group.\r\n\r\nWhy work with the religions?\r\n\r\n- The faiths are the largest sector of civil society; 85% of the world’s people describe themselves as belonging to a faith.\r\n- The faiths own 7-8% of the habitable land surface of the planet, including 5% of forests worldwide. They also have influence over 15% of forests considered sacred.\r\n- They are involved in more than half of schools worldwide.\r\n- They are among the largest investment blocks on the global stock market.\r\n- They produce more newspapers than the whole of the European Union.\r\n- More important, they are trusted as a source – often the leading source – of wisdom, information and authority in many parts of the world.",

"description": "ARRAKIS is a network organisation with professional staff, working in multiple regions or countries on water and sanitation projects. ARRAKIS is presently legally registered as a company. The company started in 1990 with the name of RED, Renewable Energy Development . ARRAKIS concentrates on sustainable rural development. Its focus is on capacity building of human resources and institutional development, as well as development and transfer of Affordable Technologies in the field of renewable energy and safe water supply in rural areas of developing countries\r\n\r\nMission statement: \r\nARRAKIS overall mission is to improve the quality of life of rural populations in countries where extreme poverty occurs.\r\n\r\nDevelopment Approach:\r\nARRAKIS is developing innovative projects in water & energy to demonstrate effective and sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty. Therewith ARRAKIS supports the Millennium Development Goals, more specifically Goals 1 and 7. \r\nThough Affordable Technology is important, ARRAKIS is convinced of the key role of the human factor for sustainable development. Starting point and prerequisite is the genuine participation of people. The best way to achieve this is by capacity building, and making knowledge accessible to people. An (anonymous) Chinese poet once expressed this as follows:\r\nIf you want to plan 1 year ahead, sow a seed\r\nIf you want to plan 10 years ahead, plant a tree\r\nIf you want to plan 100 years ahead, educate the people\r\n\r\nARRAKIS is working with a number of professional associates, with long records of work in areas of developing work. \r\n\r\n\r\nARRAKIS has a substantial track record of successful water and sanitation projects. ARRAKIS has been responsible for a number of projects, of which the most typical one is a project in Mozambique, where Affordable Technologies were introduced, like hand rope pumps, manual drilling, low cost irrigations systems and siphon water filters. Since last year ARRAKIS got also involved in low cost sanitation in Mozambique. Some of the major projects are mentioned at the website ( projects ) but there are a number of other projects not mentioned:\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling and wind rope pumps India, counterpart Aureka, for Practica, sponsored by Aqua for All;\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling in Zambia, counterpart DAPP Zambia, paid by EU\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling in Mozambique, paid by GAIA movement and EU\r\n• Training in lining out wells, production of hand rope pumps in Mozambique, counterpart ADPP, project for FACT foundation, sponsored by DOEN, HIVOS and Solidaridad see (Jatropha Project Moz)\r\n\r\n\r\nARRAKIS is involved in a number of networks and its associates have a large number of contacts in the “water world”. ARRAKIS is member of AT@work, has very close relations with Connect International Foundation, FACT foundation, GAIA Movement, Aqua for All, etc.",

"description": "Aspire informs and equips marginalised women with the knowledge, skills, esteem and friendship to become self-sufficient and empowered to change their own lives, thereby improving their families’ standard of living and encouraging the foundations for a viable and peaceful society. By working together, the women of Aspire make their own choices and take control of their future. Aspire's mission is built on the belief that the promotion of human dignity and women’s rights will lead to positive sustainable community development and strong and lasting grassroots reconciliation. Every year Aspire adopts 100 women in Kigali into its training program. They are divided into working groups of 25-30 and through participation in the twelve month curriculum, which includes rights based education in basic literacy, healthcare and business and skills training and counselling services, the beneficiaries of this programme will be able to read and write, be more aware of their rights and empowered to exercise them, have collected a range of practical skills and built a network of community friendship support.\r\n\r\nThe women are encouraged to pass these skills to their children and communities – reinforcing these vital lessons to a wider audience. This in itself is self-sustaining and promotes the creation of successful and peaceful communities. Peace Ruzage founded the Aspire programme in 2007, after she observed idle and frustrated groups of women in her neighbourhood arguing amongst themselves. Peace spent time talking with her neighbours and discovered the women were bored and marginalised from society, lacking hope for their own and their children’s futures. Most of the women were illiterate, uneducated, unskilled widows and single mothers with many children.\r\n\r\nDue to disempowerment, impoverishment, lack of awareness of their rights, teamed with the inability to express themselves, they had little chance of changing their circumstances. Poverty had forced some of the women into prostitution and illegal trading, many were suffering from HIV/AIDs, and were victims of domestic and sexual violence, substance abuse, and violence during the war and Genocide. Peace assumed the traditional role of ‘wise aunty’, and offered her veranda as a safe, open area where the women and their children could spend time and socialise. It became a forum for mediation between antagonists. She kick-started an important process, encouraging the women to talk to one another, work, and solve problems together.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the legacy of Rwanda’s past has meant that some ethnic tension still exists in parts of the community. This tension can impede positive, local development and reconciliation. Rooted in her commitment to human dignity, equality and a peaceful future, Peace has successfully brought together women - regardless of their background - to be educated, trained, work and to socialise, thereby promoting cooperation, friendship and reconciliation. The Aspire women have formed a strong network of friendship and support, they have started sustainable economic activities, and they are increasingly aware of their rights and empowered as a result- all of which sprung from simple dialogue and cooperation.\r\n\r\nNetwork for Africa is advocating for, and financially supporting Aspire so that it can sustain and develop its vital programme empowering vulnerable women of Kigali.",

"description": "The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions. Established in 1922, it is the oldest university in Queensland and today has almost 44,000 students who study across its four main campuses. UQ works to enable our students and staff to become leaders within their communities by creating an environment for learning and discovery in which they can develop and fulfil their aspirations, that rewards excellence, openness and innovation and encourages widespread engagement with our local and global communities. We are a pacesetter in discovery and translational research across a broad spectrum of disciplines ranging from bioscience and nanotechnology to mining, engineering, social science and humanities. The University actively supports a culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism with active strategies that promote technology transfer, commercialisation, and proof-of-concept and start-up company development.\r\n\r\n",
