"description": "Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA) was established as a philanthropic organization in 1994. In pursuance of its objectives, in later stages it has incorporated various means and methods to achieve desirable results. Promotion of Self Help Groups (SHGs), extending Micro-finance, encouraging Micro-enterprise, ensuring social justice for disabled, socio-economic rehabilitation of leprosy cured persons, creating avenues for alternative livelihood for poors have been adopted since a long time and have proven to be effective tools for poverty alleviation.\r\n\r\nAs a banker fifteen years ago, Mr. Khirod Chandra Malick, founder Chairman, Bharat integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA), while working in western part of Orissa, realized and then visualized the debilitating impact of real poverty in the vision. In fact, this was the turning point in his life which generated an inner urge to start a philanthropic organization with a group of like-minded people. Thus BISWA was born with a very well-defined Vision and Mission. It is now full committed towards the sustainable development of the people with special emphasis on women. During this period, the Organization has expanded to other state thereby acquiring the status of a prominent nation level NGO. It has promoted 238 independent BISWA Federations known as MBTs (Mutual Benefit Trusts). At present it has decided and planned to create one million employment opportunities by March 2011 and to bring down poverty levels to twenty per cent by that time.",

"description": "Since 1993, RCDC (Regional Centre for Development Cooperation) has been leading work focused on natural resource management and livelihoods for the development of Odisha. We understand that a holistic approach is necessary and we now address a broad spectrum of environment and people-centred issues - from forest, water and land rights, livelihoods and mining issues, to climate change and disaster risk reduction.\r\n\r\nOur proactive and informed approach has brought us acclaim and transformed lives in Odisha; our grassroots interventions, research and expertise informs our policy-level work, where we raise the debate and seek to influence key decision-making to bring benefits to the communities we aim to help.\r\n\r\nThe principle underlying our operations is that the appropriate management of natural resources is necessary to address current development problems in a lasting manner, and that the local communities - with their traditional knowledge and stakeholder interest - are the best managers of these resources.",

"description": "NIRMAN works with agrarian, tribal and forest dwelling community to deal with food and livelihood insecurity of these marginalized section of society. These communities are critically dependent on agriculture and forests for livelihood and face the growing threat of loosing their livelihood options due to fast depleting natural resources base like land and forests. The other most important issue confronting these vulnerable groups is lack of secure tenure over customarily used land and forest resources thus resulting in very poor access and control over these resources. Keeping in view the importance of natural resources for supporting livelihoods, we focus on sustainable management of natural resources along with conservation and promotion of bio-diverse farming through community based democratic institutions. \r\nhe growing concern for supporting an agro-ecosystem that value the traditional wisdom of conservation and management and create toxic free food laid the foundation of NIRMAN in 1997. NIRMAN facilitates participatory approach that promotes local innovations and leadership building process from among the local community.",

"description": "Biome Environmental is a Bangalore-based firm focused on ecology and architecture. Created by the 2008 merger of Chitra K. Vishwanath Architects and Rainwater Club, Biome’s diverse in-house team includes designers, architects, civil and mechanical engineers and urban planners. The merging organizations have operated since 1990 and bring their unique talents to the new firm:\r\n\r\nChitra K. Vishwanath Architects\r\nHas designed and implemented hundreds of real estate developments – residences, institutions and resorts – guided by ecological principles, integrating sound water, energy and land-use thinking into design\r\n\r\nRainwater Club\r\nHas extensive expertise in providing knowledge services in water management and rainwater harvesting, ecological wastewater treatment and sanitation practices\r\n\r\nBiome’s unique capability lies in thinking through the key ecological and social issues in each project. We have extensive working relationships with specialized knowledge experts in bio-diversity, tourism, hydrogeology, and material science, whose contributions we synthesize into a coherent design strategy and plan of action.\r\nDesign is a highly personal process, and we place great emphasis on client interactions to ensure the final project incorporates the vision of sustainability with the client’s aspirations for aesthetics, functionality, and budget.\r\n\r\nOur approach\r\n\r\nBiome’s guiding philosophy is defined by an enduring commitment to environmentally and socially responsible living. The question we constantly ask ourselves is how to make positives changes in the design of our buildings and cities to reduce their environmentally harmful effects, facilitate a lifestyle in harmony with the natural world, and benefit everyone involved in the process – from the end-user to the plumber and the mason.\r\n\r\nOne standard we measure our success against is the ecological footprint, which is a tool for measuring our impact on the planet’s resources. Our architectural approach strives to reduce the ecological footprint of our buildings while humanising the urban development for a balanced, clean, and “natural” living environment that does not compromise on comforts and aesthetic. Our approach to water sustainability looks at ways to lower water demand without inconvenience and to improve long-term water security in an increasingly water scarce world.",

"description": "The first museum in Afghanistan was established in 1919 at the Bagh-i-Bala palace overlooking Kabul, and consisted of manuscripts, miniatures, weapons and art objects belonging to the former royal families. A few years later the collection was moved to the king's palace in the centre of the city and in 1931 it was officially installed in the present building. The original collection was expanded, starting in 1922, by the first excavations of the Délégation Archéologique Française in Afghanistan (DAFA). Through the years, other archaeological delegations have added their finds to the museum until today the collection spans fifty millenniums: Prehistoric, Classical, Buddhist, hindu and Islamic art and stands as one of the greatest testimonies of antiquity that the world has inherited. For reasons of comprehensiveness and effectiveness, IOMAC was founded on the concept of integrating relevant management disciplines in mandated fields, as well as integrating relevant national, regional, and global institutional elements in the regional management framework.\r\n\r\nIn furtherance of the primary commitment for the realization of the promised benefits to governments from the new ocean regime, IOMAC has consistently emphasized training as an essential tool in advancing national capabilities in the requisite fields of marine affairs. This would be essential for bringing about a true integration of the ocean sector in national development strategies.",

We are robust and responsible at our core but balance this with an energy and drive – seeking out new opportunities that enable the Islamic world to prosper.\r\n \r\nThe four cornerstones of our business – our customers, business partners, member countries and our products and services – provide a solid foundation on which we are building a promising and exciting future. Operating to world-class standards, the ITFC promotes the IDB Groups developmental objectives through its two main pillars, Trade Finance and Trade Promotion, to fulfill its brand promise of 'Advancing Trade & Improving Lives'.",
