"description": "Africa Alive! is a youth-serving organization started in 1998 with a vision to build and empower a healthier HIV/AIDS free generation of African youth. The mission of Africa Alive! is to promote positive behavior change among young people through advocacy, empowerment, partnership and resource/community mobilization, in order to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa. \r\n\r\nThe initiatives developed and undertaken by Africa Alive! over the past years have adopted the strategic approach of creating a favorable environment for, and promoting broad based community discourse on healthy and high risk sexual behaviors. The organization’s mandate promotes the full participation of young people at every level of programme implementation. Africa Alive! uses audience and message strategy of edutainment (entertainment education). \r\n\r\nThis approach combines entertainment and education to attract the attention and provide a forum for delivering behaviour change messages. Africa Alive! reaches African youth by tapping into popular, creative channels of communication that appeal to youth in Africa and all over the world such as;\r\n• Radio and TV drama that help educate and promote safe behaviours by depicting and discussing HIV/AIDS prevention and dealing with the decision-making process regarding sexual activity \r\n• Puppetry- using puppetry and folk media as an entertainment and educational tool of reaching the youth with appropriate messages on their reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention, including community sensitization and mobilization on the uptake of other RH services such as STI screening, FP services and VCT.\r\n• Traveling road shows (music performance and quiz) that reach both urban and rural areas, getting youth involved in talking about HIV/AIDS\r\n• Radio and TV variety/talk shows with phone-ins, discussions, and mini-draws addressing HIV/AIDS\r\n• Peer education outreach in schools\r\n• Training and working with young music artiste and club DJs as youth advocates on RH/HIV/AIDS issues and\r\n• Comics with HIV/AIDS prevention messages.\r\n• Sporting events with prevention messages at break, on tickets, and at HIV/AIDS information booths in and around the venue.\r\n",

"description": "At least 265 Organisations, Churches, Mosques, Schools and other Community Groups take part in the trainings by Kitale AIDS Programme. Whilst in some areas these organisations group themselves as registered Community Based Organisations (CBO's) elsewhere they take up the responsibilities for their community volunteers individually. Although very different in character all organisations share in the task of mainstreaming HIV/AIDS and its related issues in their respective communities. Whilst doing so they make many contributions in kind such as provision of free venues, no rent for office space, totally voluntary educational activities (sessions, theatre performances, club work etc), help for sick and needy people, greatly reduced food expenses and sometimes even payment for own food. Translated into monetary terms this accounts to at least 8.400 Euro per year. If the now completely voluntary efforts of 1.230 active community volunteers would be paid at the common rate of 15 Euro per month this would translate into an additional 221.400 Euro per year!",

SANA has prepared a 5 year plan to implement a further 1,000 water points and 10,000 sand units\r\n\r\nDistricts covered by SANA in Nyanza Province\r\nInterest in the sector has been growing over the years through campaigns both nationally and internationally leading to formulation of Vision 21, PHAST and the emergence of the new water policy in Kenya, Sessional Paper No. 1 (1999) on Water Resources Development and Management.\r\nThe immediate stakeholders in the former RDWSSP garnered support and established SANA, which was registered in October 2000. Since then efforts towards positioning SANA within the water and sanitation sector have attracted considerable attention from patner stakeholders, including the local community and leaders from Districts in the Province.",

"description": "Transparency International–Kenya (TI-Kenya) is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1999 in Kenya with the aim of developing a transparent and corruption free society through good governance and social justice initiatives. TI-Kenya is one of the autonomous chapters of the global Transparency International movement that are all bound by a common vision of a corruption-free world. The global movement provides a platform for sharing knowledge and experience, developing strategies to respond to regionally distinct patterns of corruption and initiating advocacy campaigns at both the regional and sub-regional level. The vision of TI Kenya is that of a transparent, accountable and corruption-free Kenya and the mission is to transform the society and institutions by supporting the development of high integrity leadership in all sectors and at all levels. TI-Kenya’s key goals are: Institutions that are efficient and deliver quality services; and, a society that upholds and promotes integrity.\r\n\r\nThe strategic objectives are:\r\n•\tTo strengthen governance in targeted institutions – TI-Kenya believes that strengthening governance in public institutions will significantly enhance their efficiency and ensure they deliver quality services to the public. It is thus targeting public institutions in the water, education, health, humanitarian aid, climate finance governance, the police and extractive sectors. \r\n•\tTo develop an effective legislative and policy environment - TI-Kenya supports the development of quality laws (in respect to integrity, transparency and accountability) and monitors their implementation.\r\n•\tTo strengthen the capacity of the public to recognize and fight corruption - TI-Kenya works towards strengthening the capacity of the public to recognize corrupt practices and take action against such practices. TI-Kenya pays special focus on the youth as a key pillar in enhancing integrity and fighting corruption.\r\n\r\nTI-Kenya’s key approaches include research, partnerships development, capacity building and civic engagement. \r\nThrough the Advocacy and Legal Advisory Centres (ALACs) in Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa and Nairobi, interventions in the education sector in Kisumu, Kwale and Trans Nzoia, and the Humanitarian Aid Integrity Programme implemented in Turkana, Wajir and West Pokot, TI-Kenya has spread its work to the masses, engaging more Kenyans in the fight against corruption and constructively engaged county governments. TI-Kenya has contributed towards the development of key laws necessitated by the Constitution, particularly in regard to integrity provisions. The organization developed amendments to the Leadership and Integrity law, and drafted the Whistleblower Protection Bill. TI-Kenya in addition contributed amendments to the Climate Change Bill, Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Bill, 2014 and the Health Bill among others. TI-Kenya drafted the model county Access to Information and Public Participation bills and engaged four counties in the adoption of these bills. Civic engagement is central in TI-Kenya’s strategy. Through the ALACs, TI-Kenya is empowering Kenyans to actively participate in anti-corruption efforts while providing a vehicle through which they can report and pursue corruption-related complaints, with over 5,000 people given legal advice in the last year. TI-Kenya has to date initiated the formation of 102 integrity clubs to engage students in ethical and integrity learning. \r\n",

"description": "Vijana Amani Pamoja – meaning ‘Peace Together Youth’ – was originally founded in 2000 as a soccer club by Enouce Ndeche who today is the organisation’s Executive Director.\r\n\r\nHaving witnessed the multitude of social and economic challenges faced by young people in Nairobi’s slums coupled with the huge popularity of soccer in Kenya, an idea was born: to use the sport as a tool for social development.\r\n\r\nSince those early days, Vijana Amani Pamoja – or VAP – has grown into a strong, community-based-organisation, located in the heart of the Eastlands area of Nairobi which is home to numerous slums and high poverty areas. VAP’s original beneficiaries are now leaders within the organisation which reaches thousands of vulnerable young people each year.\r\n\r\nThe organisation's mission is to integrate social and economic values through soccer by creating a pro-active health environment, and its' vision is a society that is healthy and socially and economically empowered. \r\n\r\nToday, the organisation delivers three soccer-inspired programs addressing HIV/AIDS, female empowerment and corruption in Kenya in Nairobi schools and community centres.\r\n\r\nEach program, lasting between three and six months, takes a two-pronged approach; firstly, participants are educated and informed on relevant health and social issues. Secondly, the self-esteem and confidence of participants are actively built to enable them to put their new found knowledge into action, making positive choices and resisting peer pressure.\r\n\r\nPrograms are delivered by peer educators, many of whom are local soccer stars, who act as role models.",

Twaweza believes that lasting change requires bottom-up action. We seek to foster conditions and expand opportunities through which millions of people can get information and make change happen in their own communities directly and by holding government to account.\r\n\r\nTwaweza works to provide practical information to everyone, to foster quality independent media and citizen monitoring services. By addressing these issues through its partner organizations, Twaweza works to foster what it calls an 'ecosystem of change,' through building on, as well as triggering, the actions of citizens to make a difference. Twaweza has three core areas: brokering partnerships, Uwazi, and learning and communication.",
