ARRAKIS is presently legally registered as a company. The company started in 1990 with the name of RED, Renewable Energy Development . ARRAKIS concentrates on sustainable rural development. Its focus is on capacity building of human resources and institutional development, as well as development and transfer of Affordable Technologies in the field of renewable energy and safe water supply in rural areas of developing countries\r\n\r\nMission statement: \r\nARRAKIS overall mission is to improve the quality of life of rural populations in countries where extreme poverty occurs.\r\n\r\nDevelopment Approach:\r\nARRAKIS is developing innovative projects in water & energy to demonstrate effective and sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty. Therewith ARRAKIS supports the Millennium Development Goals, more specifically Goals 1 and 7. \r\nThough Affordable Technology is important, ARRAKIS is convinced of the key role of the human factor for sustainable development. Starting point and prerequisite is the genuine participation of people. The best way to achieve this is by capacity building, and making knowledge accessible to people. An (anonymous) Chinese poet once expressed this as follows:\r\nIf you want to plan 1 year ahead, sow a seed\r\nIf you want to plan 10 years ahead, plant a tree\r\nIf you want to plan 100 years ahead, educate the people\r\n\r\nARRAKIS is working with a number of professional associates, with long records of work in areas of developing work. \r\n\r\n\r\nARRAKIS has a substantial track record of successful water and sanitation projects. ARRAKIS has been responsible for a number of projects, of which the most typical one is a project in Mozambique, where Affordable Technologies were introduced, like hand rope pumps, manual drilling, low cost irrigations systems and siphon water filters. Since last year ARRAKIS got also involved in low cost sanitation in Mozambique. Some of the major projects are mentioned at the website ( projects ) but there are a number of other projects not mentioned:\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling and wind rope pumps India, counterpart Aureka, for Practica, sponsored by Aqua for All;\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling in Zambia, counterpart DAPP Zambia, paid by EU\r\n• Training in hand rope pumps, manual drilling in Mozambique, paid by GAIA movement and EU\r\n• Training in lining out wells, production of hand rope pumps in Mozambique, counterpart ADPP, project for FACT foundation, sponsored by DOEN, HIVOS and Solidaridad see (Jatropha Project Moz)\r\n\r\n\r\nARRAKIS is involved in a number of networks and its associates have a large number of contacts in the “water world”. ARRAKIS is member of AT@work, has very close relations with Connect International Foundation, FACT foundation, GAIA Movement, Aqua for All, etc.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 61, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 1995, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 1819, "latitude": 14.436788, "longitude": -11.445272, "city": "Kayes", "state": "", "address_1": "", "address_2": "", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "ML", "country": 28, "location_target": 1995 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/62/17/6217793cb98063083b96346ebe3717c2.jpg", "latitude": "14.436788", "longitude": "-11.445272", "city": "Kayes", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2014-03-17T17:24:12+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2021-04-09T03:13:06.147819+02:00", "name": "CEEA", "long_name": "Conseil Eau et Environnement Assistance", "language": "fr", "organisation_type": "C", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 70, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://ceea-expertise.com/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "00223 21589790", "mobile": "00223 65571178", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Sémou N'Diaye", "contact_email": "ceea.service@yahoo.f", "description": "Conseil- Eau & Environnement Assistance (CEEA) est une initiative locale manifestée à travers la mise en place d’un bureau de prestations capable d’offrir aux communautés de base et aux collectivités territoriales l’assistance nécessaire pour la conception, la réalisation et la gestion durable des ouvrages d’alimentation en eau potable, la protection et la gestion des ressources naturelles.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 1819, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 597, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 261, "latitude": 12.65, "longitude": -8.0, "city": "Bamako ", "state": "District de Bamako ", "address_1": "", "address_2": "", "postcode": "BP 2502", "iati_country": "ML", "country": 28, "location_target": 597 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/eb/95/eb95dabcdc48407c39e3deef714c447e.jpg", "latitude": "12.65", "longitude": "-8.0", "city": "Bamako ", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-02-17T15:36:56+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:54.948735+01:00", "name": "GRAT", "long_name": "Groupe de Recherches et d'Applications Techniques", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "002232072248", "mobile": "0022366728539 ", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Kamissoko Issa", "contact_email": "grat@afribone.net.ml", "description": "Le Groupe de Recherches et d’Applications Techniques (GRAT), créé en mars 1980, est une ONG malienne à but non lucratif dont l’agrément en République du Mali remonte à Juillet 1983. It has a clearly defined mandate: to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity.\r\n\r\nBelgium's humanitarian aid strategy results from an inspired approach to humanitarian law, principles and good practice for humanitarian aid (\"Good Humanitarian Donorship\") and the European Union (EU) Consensus on humanitarian aid. Belgian humanitarian aid is therefore in line with the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. The principle of humanity involves taking initiatives to combat human suffering, regardless of the region involved, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable individuals. The dignity of all victims must be respected and protected. The principle of impartiality means that humanitarian aid can only be provided in accordance with requirements, with no discrimination between or within the ethnic groups affected. Neutrality means that no party involved in armed or unarmed conflict may receive preferential treatment in the context of humanitarian aid. Independence means that the bodies involved in humanitarian aid are not bound by any other political decisions and actions taken by the donors in the field.\r\n\r\nBelgium's humanitarian efforts primarily involve support for international and civil partner organisations with proven expertise and ability to achieve; they must also be prepared to demonstrate transparency in their reports. There are currently 90 children living at Home of Hope. \r\n\r\nThe progress that the children make at Home of Hope is enormous and so rewarding. When they arrive they are very often scared and traumatised by their past – you only have to look into their eyes to see their pain.
