"description": "Mission\r\nOur mission is to create a world where sustainable farming is the norm. Sustainable farming helps farmers, workers and their families to fulfill their ambitions and contributes to safeguard the world’s resources, now and in the future.\r\n\r\nVision\r\nA world where sustainable farming is the norm is a world where: farmers implement good agricultural practices and manage their farms profitably with respect for people and planet; industry invests in and rewards sustainable production, and consumers can enjoy and trust the products they buy\r\n\r\nBetter farming. Better future\r\nUTZ is committed to creating a better, more sustainable world. We are now the largest program for coffee and cocoa and have certification schemes in other commodities including (herbal) tea, rooibos and hazelnuts. The UTZ certified label features on over 20,000 different products across 135 countries. Companies such as Ikea, Jacobs Douwe Egberts, Lavazza, Tchibo and many others have already recognized that, by sourcing UTZ certified products, they can build the trust of their customers while supporting a better world.\r\n\r\nA Cross-Cutting Approach\r\nWhile we have seen significant improvements for farmers and their workers through certification, we have also seen that some of the problems they face cannot be addressed by this alone. Issues such as child labor, low wages and climate change require a cross-cutting approach. This means that only when UTZ works together with producers, NGOs, governments and buyers, can these issues really be tackled. Building on our experience and reach, we are expanding our work to look at how we can join forces with others to make a lasting impact on these issues, in order to create a better future for everyone.",

"description": "The Ecological Management Foundation (EMF) is a typical non-profit, network organization: the head office is based in Amsterdam and staffed by a committed group of part-time employees and volunteers; several partner organizations around the world share the same ideals and ambitions and provide support where and when needed.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, EMF is dedicated to improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities in developing countries. EMF identifies, promotes and incubates small-scale projects that are innovative, practical, solution-oriented, and have a broad impact in the target country. We achieve this through providing three types of services:\r\n\r\n1) Think tank:\r\nWe watch trends and set out a vision on the kind of innovation that would alleviate the shortage of clean water in developing countries. We spread awareness of third world water issues through articles, documentaries and workshops.\r\n \r\n2) Match Maker:\r\nWe build networks and translate trends and visions from the think tank into viable projects and initiatives by bringing key partners together.\r\n\r\n3) Incubator:\r\nWe initiate pilot projects and compile business plans and road maps to scale up successful pilots.",

We ensure access to universal, high quality, comprehensive healthcare including primary care and care for infectious diseases such as malaria.\r\n2. We integrate healthcare with education, microfinance, and community mobilization to address the root causes of poverty and disease.\r\n3. We partner with the poor in destitute communities. We listen to their needs, assets, and priorities. We bring together local wisdom and international expertise.\r\n4. We strengthen and compliment the public sector, avoid building parallel systems, and advocate for evidence-based policy change.\r\n5. We are serious about measuring impact, and we practice evidence-based development.\r\n",

Everyday 6000 people die because of the lack of drinkable water, most of these deaths are among children. For this reason our shareholders are every man, woman and child living around the world without the most essential element needed to sustain human life: clean fresh water. In order to get our money to where it is needed the most as effectively and efficiently as possible, Earth Water International has secured the cooperation and support of the UNESCO-IHE. Akvo's partner network possesses the infrastructure, personnel and expertise to ensure that the money from the sale of Earth Water directly benefits those who need it the most. We at Earth Water are proud to support their efforts.",

"description": "Started as a humble initiative in 1989 by graduates of the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS) in Chitwan, Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) has now significantly expanded to become one of the largest, fastest growing and respected Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Nepal. Working among underprivileged communities of rural Nepal, RRN has been implementing integrated community development programmes and projects at the grassroots level and policy advocacy, lobbying and networking at local, national, and international levels.\r\n\r\nRRN embraces a two-pronged approach for its development intervention: (i) Working with peasant people by implementing integrated community development projects and action-oriented research focusing on the poorest and most vulnerable people/groups in rural areas and (ii) Policy research, advocacy, campaign and lobbying at the local, national, and international levels on the root causes of poverty; the problems of the resource poor; and social, economic, and cultural rights; and the right to development and environmental degradation.\r\n\r\nRRN is the only national NGO with extended capacity and development outreach that has successfully implemented various result-oriented, rights-based, integrated community development initiatives addressing the frustrated expectations of the poor, marginalised, vulnerable and conflict affected people. RRN has a proven track record of its engagement for economic, social and cultural rights and right to development by implementing pro-people development programmes, facilitating to exercise the community owned and managed integrated approaches, especially in the conflict sensitive societies.\r\n\r\nAll development programmes of RRN focus on the fourfold approach of Rural Reconstruction as the foundation upon which its programme and project activities are based on:\r\n• Education: to combat illiteracy and ignorance and provide exposure to the outside world\r\n• Sustainable livelihoods: to fight poverty and hunger\r\n• Health: to prevent disease and promote rights to health\r\n• Self-Government: to overcome civic inertia through institutional development leading to self-reliance\r\n\r\nSince 1997, RRN has enjoyed the Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations and is also accredited to the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Currently, it is hosting the Secretariat of Right to Food Network, Secretariat of the South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE) – a South Asia regional alliance of mass based civil society organisations and individuals and the International Secretariat of LDC Watch. They represent several of RRN’s civil society alliances with which RRN is associated to fight against poverty and hunger and for the realization of human rights, social justice, democracy and peace. At National level, RRN is being actively engaged in policy lobby and advocacy campaigns through Right to Food Network (RtF) , Children as Zone of Peace and Child protection (CZOPP), Anti-trafficking Alliance for Women and Children in Nepal (AATWIN), Civil Society Alliance for Nutrtion in Nepal (CSANN) and Disaster Preparedness Network(DPNet) for promoting disaster resilient communities through building and reconstructing the earthquake and disaster resilient infrastructures in its programme and projects. \r\n\r\nOver the past 24 years, RRN has been promoting democratic participation and inclusive self-government, enhancing empowerment of and ownership by the local communities. As one of the vital components of its programmes, RRN encourages and facilitates people to build their own organizations and institutions for their own development. Such people’s groups form the building blocks for bottom up organizational development and promote genuine participation in the development process. Adhering to stated purpose, RRN has established and strengthened thousands of Community Based Organiztions (CBOs) such as Citizen Awareness Centers (CACs), Peace Promotion Centers (PPCs), Users Group, People’s Forum and Community Learning Centers (CLCs).",

"description": "Aspire informs and equips marginalised women with the knowledge, skills, esteem and friendship to become self-sufficient and empowered to change their own lives, thereby improving their families’ standard of living and encouraging the foundations for a viable and peaceful society. By working together, the women of Aspire make their own choices and take control of their future. Aspire's mission is built on the belief that the promotion of human dignity and women’s rights will lead to positive sustainable community development and strong and lasting grassroots reconciliation. Every year Aspire adopts 100 women in Kigali into its training program. They are divided into working groups of 25-30 and through participation in the twelve month curriculum, which includes rights based education in basic literacy, healthcare and business and skills training and counselling services, the beneficiaries of this programme will be able to read and write, be more aware of their rights and empowered to exercise them, have collected a range of practical skills and built a network of community friendship support.\r\n\r\nThe women are encouraged to pass these skills to their children and communities – reinforcing these vital lessons to a wider audience. This in itself is self-sustaining and promotes the creation of successful and peaceful communities. Peace Ruzage founded the Aspire programme in 2007, after she observed idle and frustrated groups of women in her neighbourhood arguing amongst themselves. Peace spent time talking with her neighbours and discovered the women were bored and marginalised from society, lacking hope for their own and their children’s futures. Most of the women were illiterate, uneducated, unskilled widows and single mothers with many children.\r\n\r\nDue to disempowerment, impoverishment, lack of awareness of their rights, teamed with the inability to express themselves, they had little chance of changing their circumstances. Poverty had forced some of the women into prostitution and illegal trading, many were suffering from HIV/AIDs, and were victims of domestic and sexual violence, substance abuse, and violence during the war and Genocide. Peace assumed the traditional role of ‘wise aunty’, and offered her veranda as a safe, open area where the women and their children could spend time and socialise. It became a forum for mediation between antagonists. She kick-started an important process, encouraging the women to talk to one another, work, and solve problems together.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the legacy of Rwanda’s past has meant that some ethnic tension still exists in parts of the community. This tension can impede positive, local development and reconciliation. Rooted in her commitment to human dignity, equality and a peaceful future, Peace has successfully brought together women - regardless of their background - to be educated, trained, work and to socialise, thereby promoting cooperation, friendship and reconciliation. The Aspire women have formed a strong network of friendship and support, they have started sustainable economic activities, and they are increasingly aware of their rights and empowered as a result- all of which sprung from simple dialogue and cooperation.\r\n\r\nNetwork for Africa is advocating for, and financially supporting Aspire so that it can sustain and develop its vital programme empowering vulnerable women of Kigali.",

The founding aim of DAM is the social and spiritual development of the human community at large. DAM made paradigm shift in the mid-seventies from welfare to development approach with programme operation primarily in education and human development sectors. Since that time DAM has been diversifying its development interventions with expansion of programme coverage both geographically and in population. As the objectives of the centres were sharing knowledge and information, they started with traditional tools. Each of the centres is functioning as a community-based information centre of local GO-NGO extension departments.
