"description": "SNV Netherlands Development Organization is a not-for-profit international development organization founded in the Netherlands nearly 50 years ago. Our mission is to promote inclusive development, systemic change, local ownership and contextualized solutions. Our team works with local partners to empower communities, businesses and organizations with the tools, knowledge and networks they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development. \r\n\r\nSNV has earned the respect and trust of the Ghanaian people over the past 22 years of uninterrupted service. SNV Ghana contributes to sustainable poverty reduction as articulated in the Ghana Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy, the national development blueprint, which is in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Since 2012, SNV has focused its activities in three main sectors; agriculture, renewable energy and water, sanitation & hygiene. An added key strength is our extensive local presence on the ground. SNV Ghana currently operates 4 offices located in Accra, Takoradi, Tamale and Wa, which enables us to implement large scale projects in 9 Regions allowing for strong relationships with the communities and resulting in measurable and positive change in the lives of vulnerable rural and urban populations. \r\n\r\nIn Ghana, SNV collaborates with a wide range of partners including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), multinational & export companies, civil society and universities & research institutes. SNV is currently working in 376 communities to improve the health and quality of life for the rural and peri-urban households through enhanced access to improved sanitation and hygiene practices. In addition, SNV works to develop capacity in governance for empowerment, gender equity and social inclusion, and sanitation supply chain development and services as part of our interventions. \r\nOur current interventions in and around WASH benefit a total of 116,890 people directly, and over 2,551,435 people indirectly. SNV’s extensive experience, expertise and networks make us an attractive and trusted partner to major donors such as DGIS, DfID, the World Bank, USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Comic Relief and UNICEF. Our in-house expertise brings significant, relevant and proven experience in the WASH sector around fund management, business development services, market development, financial inclusion and capacity development. \r\n",

SIL does this primarily through research, translation, training and materials development. SIL works alongside ethnolinguistic communities and their partners as they discover how language development addresses the challenging areas of their daily lives—social, cultural, political, economic and spiritual.\r\n\r\nFounded in 1934, SIL (originally known as the Summer Institute of Linguistics, Inc.) has grown from a small summer linguistics training program with two students to a staff of over 4,400 coming from over 86 countries. SIL's linguistic investigation exceeds 2,167 languages in over 100 countries. The organization makes its services available to all, without regard to religious belief, political ideology, gender, race or ethnolinguistic background. ",

"description": "Walking for Water is the International variant of the Dutch Wandelen voor Water campaign.\r\n\r\nWalking for Water is an awareness and fundraising initiative which takes place around World Water Day (22 March). School children aged 10-13 are sponsored by friends and family to walk 6 kilometres, while carrying 6 litres of water in a backpack. With two important results: kids learn about global water issues and raise funds to help solve them. Lectures by teachers and external guest on the importance of clean drinking water and proper sanitation ensure the educational nature of the event.\r\n\r\nThe experience helps kids understand what many children their age in developing countries must do every single day, often at the expense of being in school. It is a motivating and effective community event to engage the younger generation on an important topic and teach them that they can make a difference in the lives of others.\r\n\r\nHistory\r\nThe concept of Walking for Water was pioneered in the Netherlands by NGO Aqua for All, and has grown in popularity every year since it started 8 years ago. Results have been impressive — in 2010, 18.000 children from over 400 schools Walked for Water, raising €1.2 million for water projects around the world. Schools choose a project to fund with the money raised, and see the project unfold online.",

"description": "Plan International is an independent humanitarian organization that has been committed to disadvantaged children and their families around the world for more than 75 years. The office of Plan International in Switzerland first opened its doors in Zurich in 2006.\r\n\r\nPlan seeks to involve children in all stages of its projects, from planning through implementation. We believe it is essential for the sustainable success of a project to listen to children, give them the opportunity to freely express their opinion and to involve them in all processes. In addition to the projects on site, we are also committed to making sure the rights and interests of children are realised at an international policy level.\r\n\r\nWe focus on supporting girls because they often suffer the most from poverty and its consequences.
