"description": "Any good we secure for ourselves is uncertain until it is secured for us all. This is the fundamental belief of The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, which exists primarily to invest in corporate social investment projects that help to create sustainable communities so that this dream of a common future can be realized.\r\n\r\nThe Coca-Cola Africa Foundation was established in 2001 as an African community foundation in response to the growth and impact of the HIV pandemic. In 2002, The Foundation and Africa-based Coca-Cola bottlers established the most extensive employee healthcare program for HIV/AIDS and related conditions in Africa.\r\n\r\nOnce The Coca-Cola System successfully funded the workplace HIV/AIDS programs, The Foundation redirected its HIV efforts to solely fund prevention and awareness services for communities.\r\n\r\nAs part of its mission is to strengthen and empower African communities, The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation also formed partnerships with local grassroots and international non-governmental organizations to deliver HIV/AIDS education and prevention.\r\n\r\nThe Foundation’s community activities focus on one of four key areas central to life in Africa: water, health, education and entrepreneurship. By providing assistance in the most critical areas of need, we strive to improve the quality of life for communities in Africa and expand the opportunities for those who live there.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation is involved in humanitarian assistance in Africa, for disaster relief and emergency assistance.",

They became a member of the women for water partnership and through the support of WfWP, based in the Netherlands, they could start preparing the project. When WfWP accepted funding proposal for some of initial activities for this project, TWG formalized the intervention in the village through involving the broader Mweteni community and the village government. The Same District Water Department was also informed and involved from the initial phase, a process which was seen key for sustainability of the Project.",

Then in 1991, through a nationally competitive process, it became a Special Research of the Australian Research Council. \r\n\r\nAs one of only two federally-funded special research centres on Asia in Australia, its brief was to enhance Australia’s understanding of its Asian environments by providing analysis of social, political, cultural, and economic change in East and Southeast Asia. \r\n\r\nThe Asia Research Centre develops several strategies to maintain its role as an internationally recognized leader in research on contemporary Asia. In line with this, key projects in 2000 examined globalization as well as national and local systems of governance, and cross-border policy issues including human impact of animal diseases, environmentally sustainable settlements and reverse migration. \r\n\r\nThe Centre was reconstituted in 2002 as a divisional centre at Murdoch University. Since then its objectives have been to: produce high quality academic research publications for international and domestic audiences; foster the development of high research graduates; and contribute constructively to public policy debate and public understanding on various issues concerning Asia. \r\n",

"description": "The Global Fund is a unique, public-private partnership and international financing institution dedicated to attracting and disbursing additional resources to prevent and treat HIV and AIDS, TB and malaria. This partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and affected communities represents an innovative approach to international health financing. The Global Fund’s model is based on the concepts of country ownership and performance-based funding, which means that people in countries implement their own programs based on their priorities and the Global Fund provides financing on the condition that verifiable results are achieved.\r\nSince its creation in 2002, the Global Fund has become the main financier of programs to fight AIDS, TB and malaria, with approved funding of US$ 22.9 billion for more than 1,000 programs in 151 countries. To date, programs supported by the Global Fund have provided AIDS treatment for 3.6 million people, anti-tuberculosis treatment for 9.3 million people and 270 million insecticide-treated nets for the prevention of malaria. The Global Fund works in close collaboration with other bilateral and multilateral organizations to supplement existing efforts in dealing with the three diseases.\r\nVision: A world free from the burden of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria\r\nMission: Investing the world’s money to save lives\r\n",

"description": "The International Center (IC) is a Washington, DC based 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 1977 to focus on issues between the United States and the developing world. The International Center currently has programs in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The International Center has five programs: the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council Education Forum, the New Forests Project, Veterans International/Cambodia, Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation and IC Sports Corps.\r\n\r\nThe U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council Education Forum (USVTC-EF) has played a major leadership role in building the relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam. USVTC-EF seeks the full normalization of U.S.-Vietnam relations; helps create essential policy frameworks for building a new economic partnership between the two nations; and provides assistance for the establishment of links that increase bilateral trade and investment. USVTC-EF has played a key role in the negotiation and implementation of the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and continues to work closely with Vietnam on next steps in Vietnam's economic integration and development.\r\n\r\nThe New Forests Project (NFP) supports reforestation and agroforestry projects in the developing world that protect and restore natural forests, reverse land degradation and promote land-use practices that increase productivity and sustainability. NFP consists of two protects: the World Seed Program and the Clean Water initiative. The World Seed Program supplies free seeds and other supplies to in-country partners who redistribute the seeds locally. NFP also provides agroforestry trainings, small grants for the purchase of equipment for reforestation efforts among other things. Since 1982, NFP has helped plant over 8 million trees around the globe. The Clean Water Initiative supports local water associations, committees and organizations in their efforts to provide clean, reliable water and sanitation services to rural communities in Central America and the Caribbean.\r\n\r\nVeterans International Cambodia (VIC) assists in the rehabilitation of Cambodians living with disabilities and helps them to lead active, fulfilling lives. VIC' s goal is to support victims of war and poverty who are often living on the margins of society. VIC supports three rehabilitation centers across Cambodia where people with disabilities receive rehabilitation services, prosthetics, orthotics, and other equipment. Patients also have the opportunity to meet with self- help groups and community organizations. These groups allow people with disabilities and their family members to socialize, share their experiences, and build self-confidence. Groups are given microloans to manage and start small, self-sustaining co-op projects such as fish farms or rice banks. Members are encouraged to have a voice and become involved in their community' s development.\r\n\r\nFounded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) is a humanitarian organization that addresses the consequences of war through programs of advocacy and service in Vietnam. VVAF receives grants from the Department of State and other organizations to conduct landmine clearance projects in Vietnam with the Technology Centre for Bomb and Mine Disposal Engineering Command (BOMICEN). VVAF and its project partners carryout surveys to collect information about the prevalence and burden of the most common mental disorders and the effects this has on the individuals and their families. VVAF is also engaged in upgrading and constructing schools in various provinces around Vietnam.\r\n\r\nThe International Center' s Sports Corps Division aims to improve understanding between the people of developing countries and the United States through the medium of youth sports. Our sport exchange programs create a dynamic environment for youth of various SE Asian countries to better understand each other and demonstrate how sports can overcome economic, religious, and geographic differences. These exchange programs, mainly focusing on young women and their coaches, seek to empower, teach, and inspire these women to improve themselves and their communities through sport.",

Twaweza believes that lasting change requires bottom-up action. We seek to foster conditions and expand opportunities through which millions of people can get information and make change happen in their own communities directly and by holding government to account.\r\n\r\nTwaweza works to provide practical information to everyone, to foster quality independent media and citizen monitoring services. By addressing these issues through its partner organizations, Twaweza works to foster what it calls an 'ecosystem of change,' through building on, as well as triggering, the actions of citizens to make a difference. Twaweza has three core areas: brokering partnerships, Uwazi, and learning and communication.",

"description": "Program Vision: Improving community and environmental health for Kenyan families, by increasing access to safewater and sanitation, while building individual skills and capacity and maintaining bonds of friendship and support with the Tweed Community.\r\n\r\nThe Tweed Community, under the leadership of Tweed Shire Council, is participating in a mentoring program with a number of communities in Kenya.\r\n\r\nThe program uses the Tweed’s human, technical and financial resources to support an environmental education and safe water program in the informal settlements surrounding Nairobi, and in poverty stricken rural areas. The program is underpinned by a strong bond between individuals and community organisation from Tweed Shire and Kenya who have met and learnt from each other over the course of the program.\r\n\r\nThe International RiverFoundation, Skyjuice Foundation and JH Williams are the major external sponsors of the Tweed Community Kenya Mentoring Program. The program has also been sustained by the generosity of a large number of businesses and individuals within the Tweed Community, all of whom are listed under the sponsors section of this website.\r\n\r\nThe mentoring program employs three staff members and operates from an office in Dagoretti, which is a township on the outskirts of Nairobi. The staff work with networks of youth groups to raise awareness of environmental issues and organise activities based around sport which provide opportunities for community development. The program has now provided two water treatment facilities for poor rural communities in the west of Kenya, and is managed within the Tweed Shire by a team of Council staff and volunteers from a number of community groups.",

The surrounding McPherson, Tweed, Burringbar and Nightcap ranges form the caldera of the fertile Tweed Valley.\r\n\r\nPrior to European settlement, the area was blanketed in sub-tropical forest and was home to the Nganduwal/Minjungbal people. Many of the Shire’s towns and villages derive their names from the language of the local Aboriginal people.\r\n\r\nThe retail, hospitality, agricultural and tourism industries are major employers, while construction, fishing, and light industry are other significant contributors to the local economy.",

"description": "Twestival is a global charity event that takes place in 200+ cities during 10-13 september 2009. All cities choose their own charity organisation for donations.\r\n\r\nA Twestival or Twitter-Festival is a global series of events organized by volunteers around the world under short timescales, which bring people offline for a great cause. Twestival is run 100% by volunteers and independently from any not-for-profit; although the organizing teams do work closely to outline an achievable and measurable fundraising target. Twestival also sets out to identify key skills of volunteers and match these with the needs of the cause; particularly communications strategy, tech integration and social media training. Twestival Local takes place in cities around the world : 10-13 September 2009.\r\n\r\nNorrköping Twestival, held September 13, at Kulturhuset, Trädgårdsgatan 37, 16 to 23, consists of two parts, held in a laid-back café setting. First, a Conversation Café, with three presenters and conversation starters: Thomas Bjelkeman (co-founder of Akvo), Anna Lindberg (journalist at Östgöta Correspondenten - \"Corren\" - and former regional TV talkshow host at SVT Eftersnack) and Thomas Selig (running Penseo, an ICT company supporting NGOs and Charities with web solutions and social media strategies), supporting a conversation touching charities, media, journalism, world improvement and how the web can stimulate social and societal change as some themes, intertwined. Last, a DJ Café with Alex \"A2R\" Wigforss and Jimmy \"Dunn\" Landby, residents and driving forces of club concept FLO organized by NEMCOM, Norrköping Electronic Music Community.\r\n\r\nWater and sanitation project of choice for this specific fundraising event is to protect the water supply of Tbilisi, Georgia, organized by Rural Communities Development Agency, RCDA, in the field, with support partner Women in Europe for a Common Future in the Netherlands.",
