This was as a result of deliberations that took place at a satellite meeting preceding the International Aids Conference in Durban in 2000. National Nurses Associations had in their own countries been working on improving the conditions for nurses, however in the absence of mechanisms to share best practices; they had been left to re invent the wheel.\r\nNurses and midwives of the region realized that they have to join hands in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic that was and is still hitting the SADC region hard. Thus this network was formed. SANNAM has made tremendous strides towards strengthening NNAs/NNOs (National Nursing Associations/Organisations) through capacity building, networking and sharing of best practices. Its 15 member NNOs/NNAs currently represent over 200,000 Nurses and Midwives. \r\n\r\nThis regional structure is registered in terms of the Non-profit Organizations Act of 1997 in South Africa and coordinates all projects from its Secretariat established at 605 Church Street (DENOSA Headquarters), Pretoria 0001, South Africa. \r\n\r\nThe Secretariat is led by an Executive Director, supported by a qualified Finance Officer and an Administrative Secretary and overseen by an Executive Committee of five members, who are presidents of member NNAs/NNOs. The secretariat ensures the effective implementation and management of regional projects through coordinating meetings, contracting services effectively, and monitoring and evaluation. It also serves to strengthen the network and ensure that programmes are integrated through sharing information and consolidating the organisation. \r\nThe Secretariat is managed in agreement with labour regulations of the host country (South Africa) and collaborates with SADC Secretariat Health Sector and HIV/AIDS Unit for regional concerns and partnership in some projects. Member NNAs/NNOs are legal entities registered in their countries. The organization has initiated negotiations with the SADC secretariat for long –term sustainability.\r\n\r\nSANNAM collaborate with other regional and international organizations such as: CIDA through CNA, ICN, WHO – Afro, ILO, UNAIDS, EQUINET, Universities…and is member of the GHWA.\r\n\r\nSANNAM has received support from CORDAID since 2009 to implement a 2 year project that aimed at improving the working conditions of Nurses and Midwives in the region through strengthening the lobbying and advocating capacity of NNAs/NNOs. The results of this project inspired the need to further enhance advocacy capacity of Nursing and Midwifery leaders at national and peripheral level for effective involvement in decision making and influencing health policies.\r\n\r\nSANNAM vision is: Improved regional health services through strengthening National Nurses Associations/Organisations (NNAs/NNOs); its activities focus on: networking, capacity building, experiences sharing, twinning partnership, lobby and advocacy, research (not well developed) and support to members (e.g coaching and solidarity interventions).", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 852, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 208, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 529, "latitude": 52.373801, "longitude": 4.890935, "city": "Amsterdam", "state": "Noord-Holland", "address_1": "Postbusnummer 810", "address_2": "", "postcode": "1000 AV", "iati_country": "NL", "country": 3, "location_target": 208 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/82/73/82734b579239be64acbcc5b9dca5ea08.jpg", "latitude": "52.373801", "longitude": "4.890935", "city": "Amsterdam", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2010-03-15T14:06:16+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:57:00.592012+01:00", "name": "SAP", "long_name": "Stichting Afrika Projecten", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.afrikaprojecten.org/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+31-(0)20-5919005", "mobile": "", "fax": "+31-(0)847-112552", "contact_person": "", "contact_email": "monique.diepeveen@mail.ing.nl ", "description": "The Stichting Afrika Projecten has been active for more than 35 years with small scale projects in Eastern Africa. Moses himself the Director for instance was born 2 months after the death of his father and by then his mother was just a young girl of 17years who later on abandoned him under the care of Moses’ grandmother at the age of 3years to explore herself a new rewarding life. Moses’ life experiences was the point for him to think too deep about helping the destitute children and today he has changed many street children into useful people in the Nyendo Community by involving them into community activities of sanitation. This helps when the community can look at these children as useful people than being subject to violence both from the police, town people and from older kids. \r\n\r\nChildren have been the main rubbish carriers with less responsibility, dumping rubbish anywhere at their convenience, for; they are made to carry big loads of garbage which rarely reach to the right destination. However, some community members have began learning by the situation and participate in voluntary cleaning of their areas. The main causes being; Poor housing and planning, Lack of enough skips located in different areas closer to the people, Reckless dumping of rubbish, Lack of a well designed dumping site for the public, lack of knowledge on the importance of keeping good sanitation behavior in our environment, Parents left the whole garbage dumping tasks in the hands of children which leaves the work poorly done , often children are found dropping these garbage on the way as it seems to be much heavy for them to Cary, people do not have dust bins at their working places.\r\nSAVO signed partnership agreement with Masaka Municipal Council to promote health and sanitation in Nyendo Ssenyange Division the activities assigned cover road sweeping, trench cleaning. Women who want to address societal issues, and who – to make a real impact – do so by joining forces with other entrepreneurial women.\r\n\r\nOur activities focus on:\r\n- connecting people, opportunities and resources: we connect entrepreneurial women with one another, with markets, with investors and/or sponsors\r\n- enabling mutual learning: we organise network meetings (locally and internationally), so that participants can act as a source of inspiration, support and learning for each other\r\n- developing expertise and know-how: we will research – in collaboration with univerisities – what the key factors are in growing women entrepreneurship and developing healthy, self-sustaining communities", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 541, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 1184, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 1067, "latitude": 0.0, "longitude": 0.0, "city": " Budapest", "state": " ", "address_1": "131 Huvosvolgyi ut", "address_2": "", "postcode": "1021", "iati_country": "HU", "country": 97, "location_target": 1184 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/da/1c/da1cb4afaad944520360990d8fef976e.jpg", "latitude": "0.0", "longitude": "0.0", "city": " Budapest", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2013-05-31T09:25:21+02:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:57:00.721065+01:00", "name": "SEK Budapest", "long_name": "SEK Budapest International School", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "K", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.sek.hu/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Angela Milne-Kiss ", "contact_email": "angela.milne-kiss@iesmail.com ", "description": "", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 1067, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 1018, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 917, "latitude": 28.64488, "longitude": 77.165053, "city": "New Delhi", "state": "Delhi", "address_1": "7/5, First Floor", "address_2": "South Patel Nagar", "postcode": "110 008", "iati_country": "IN", "country": 2, "location_target": 1018 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/00/ab/00ab7964721ca58afea002ef3da8df24.jpg", "latitude": "28.64488", "longitude": "77.165053", "city": "New Delhi", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2013-01-14T09:54:00+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:57:00.756155+01:00", "name": "SEWA Bharat", "long_name": "Self Employed Women's Association Bharat", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.sewabharat.org/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+91-11-2584-1369", "mobile": "", "fax": "+91-11-2584-1369", "contact_person": "Mr. Sanjay Kumar", "contact_email": "mail@sewabharat.org", "description": "The Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a women’s trade union that was started in Gujarat in 1972 by Smt. Elaben Bhatt, with the aim of organising women in the informal sector. SEWA represents the convergence of three movements: the labour movement, the women’s movement and the cooperative movement. Based on the philosophy of Gandhiji, SEWA’s goal is to achieve full employment and self-reliance for all its members. \r\n\r\nSEWA defines ‘full employment’ as employment that provides work security, income security, food security and social security. ‘Self-reliance’ refers to economic self–sufficiency and equitable roles in the decision-making process. These goals are achieved through a strategy of “struggle and development”. The struggle is against the many constraints imposed on women by society and the economy, and the development activities are aimed to strengthen women's collective bargaining power and provide them with sustainable new alternatives.\r\n\r\nGenesis of SEWA Bharat: \r\n\r\nSEWA’s experience in Gujarat provided encouragement to women in other states as well, with sister organizations being set up in a total of nine states till date. Together, these sister organizations constitute SEWA Bharat, the All-India Federation of Self Employed Women’s Associations. SEWA’s mandate is to highlight the issues of women working in the informal sector, and to strengthen the capacity of the different organizations that serve them. SEWA Bharat is a membership-based organization.\r\n\r\nLocal community health workers are the cornerstone of SEWA’s health program. Known as sathis, SEWA health workers serve the entire community, and work to organize SEWA members in their villages and neighbourhoods. They are educators, service providers and advocates. \r\n\r\n Objective: \r\nThe objectives of SEWA’s health programme are as follows:\r\n1. To build the community's capacity to demand their sexual and reproductive rights within a broader framework of the rights to health and social security \r\n2. To work with partners to bridge the gap in government services and increase the availability subsidized or free sexual, reproductive and other health services and advocating for availability, accessibility and quality of public services.\r\nSome of the schemes that SEWA actively works on are:\r\n• Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY Maternity benefit for institutional delivery)\r\n• Minority schemes\r\n• National Rural Employment Guarantee Act \r\n• RSBY- insurance for BPL families\r\n• Indira Avas Yojana\r\n• Ladli: Education of the girl child\r\n• Old age and widow pension\r\n• Worker schemes: ex. An impoverised very dry area. There are no industies and there is hardly any tourism .After sponsoring some children and seeing the very poor state of general education (no books, not enough furniture or any other teaching materials we formed two foundations. Stichting Fondsenwerving Pacung Bali in the Netherlands (finding funds) and Yayasan Gemah Ripah(executive foundation) in Bali. Also we found funds to build training places for those children who liked to work with their hands.\r\nThis resulted in a garage, a weavery, a welding- and a furniture workshop.\r\nAll of them are now self sufficient. \r\n\r\n GOALS\r\n In time our goals changed from only supporting children from poor\r\n families to get an education and helping schools.\r\n We still help poor children to get an education but we were also able to build our own Educational, Social and Cultural Centre(see DVD). \r\n\r\n ACTIVITIES.\r\na.
