"description": "All over the world, Wilde Ganzen (Wild Geese) supports disadvantaged people, through their Dutch partners, who make an effort to achieve a better future for their community. Our support is meant for small-scale and specific projects of, for and by the people themselves in developing countries and a number of Eastern European countries, without distinguishing between race, language, religion or orientation. \r\nWilde Ganzen tries to achieve this aim by raising funds for the projects together with the Dutch partner. Besides, we have been raising funds by means of a weekly radio and television appeal through the Dutch inter-church broadcasting IKON ever since our formation in 1957.\r\nYou may submit a project proposal only if you have a Dutch partner who is willing to raise funds for your project. \r\n\r\nEvery year, Wilde Ganzen supports approximately 500 new projects all over the world. Wilde Ganzen only supports projects, through the so called ‘Dutch partners’, for which schools, foundations or private persons in the Netherlands raise funds, the so-called private initiatives. Each project requires a private initiative in the Netherlands that makes an effort to raise the necessary funds for the project. Wilde Ganzen increases the funds raised by adding a Bonus of 70% to the net result of the campaign, after which the project can be executed. Through their donation, endowment or inheritance, the donors enable Wilde Ganzen to support hundreds of campaigns year after year. ",

"description": "The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven is one of the first public museums for contemporary art to be established in Europe. The museum’s collection of around 2700 works of art includes key works and archives by Lissitzky, Picasso, Kokoschka, Chagall, Beuys, McCarthy, Daniëls and Körmeling. The museum has an experimental approach towards art’s role in society. \r\n\r\n'We challenge ourselves and our visitors to think about art and its place in the world, covering a range of subjects, including the role of the collection as a cultural 'memory' and the museum as a public site.' International collaboration and exchange have made the Van Abbemuseum a place for creative cross-fertilisation and a source of surprise, inspiration and imagination for its visitors and participants.",

"description": "The Van Eyck is a post academic institute that has turned into an international multiform organization for fine art, design, and reflection. We are a multidisciplinary institute that furthers experiment, research, study, production and exchange. In our institute promising artists, designers, thinkers and curators are given the time and space that is needed to develop their talents, to discover as yet unexplored perspectives and delve into deeper layers of their selves.\r\nAs of 2013 we have embarked on a new course, guided by our institutional compass. The rose of the compass is the comprehensive idea of porosity and fluidity; the four compass points encompass openness as well as connection, self-guidance as well as cooperation. In real terms, this means that the Van Eyck is a welcoming meeting-place where fluid connections exist between institute and surrounding world, between the various art disciplines and between the fields of art and science. The energy flows that are thus generated trigger myriad possibilities and bring the development of talent to a peak. \r\nFor more information about JVE : link to JVE partner page on NEARCH website",

"description": "The Connect4Change consortium consists of six Dutch development and specialist ICT organisations (IICD, ICCO, Akvo, Cordaid, Edukans, Text to Change), all with extensive experience and vision on how to integrate information and communication technologies in their programmes to alleviate poverty and improve development.\r\n\r\nICT has changed and is changing the world. It is one of the main drivers behind globalisation, the creation of economic opportunities and empowerment of individuals. ICT has changed the lives of millions for the better and is an important tool in fighting poverty. Yet, many lack the possibility to profit from the opportunities arising. Realisation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be accelerated by using ICT in a smart and sustainable way. It is against this background that Dutch development organisations and specialized ICT organisations Akvo, Cordaid, Edukans, ICCO and IICD have decided to collaborate by setting-up the Connect4Change Consortium. The consortium works closely together with preferred partner Text to Change.\r\nThe Connect4Change Consortium has a vision of a world where people, in particular young people and women and girls, are able to access relevant information and create their own future. Information and communication technologies are a powerful instrument that can speed up the process of development and empowerment of individuals. It helps people to unlock themselves and make use of their own potential.\r\n\r\nOur mission is to strengthen people and civil society organisations in the sustainable use of and lobby for ICT to achieve their development goals, in particular in economic development, health and education. Individuals and organisations that represent the poor are key actors in using the possibilities of ICT.",

The foundation was established in 1949 and is based in the Netherlands. Our income is derived from the sale of Royal Packaging Industries Van Leer N.V., bequeathed to the foundation by Dutch industrialist and philanthropist Bernard van Leer (1883 to 1958, pictured). (More about our history and income).\r\n\r\nOur mission is to improve opportunities for children up to age 8 who are growing up in socially and economically difficult circumstances. We see this both as a valuable end in itself and as a long-term means to promoting more cohesive, considerate and creative societies with equal opportunities and rights for all. \r\n\r\nOur grantmaking works primarily through supporting programmes implemented by local partners in selected countries. Our partners include public, private and community-based organisations. Working through partnerships is intended to build local capacity, promote innovation and flexibility, and help to ensure that the work we fund is culturally and contextually appropriate.\r\n\r\nWe also aim to leverage our impact by working with influential allies to advocate for young children. Our free publications share lessons we have learned from our own grantmaking activities and feature agenda-setting contributions from outside experts. Through our publications and advocacy, we aim to inform and influence policy and practice not only in the countries where we operate but globally.",

"description": "A fair, free and sustainable world – that is what Hivos, the Humanist Institute for Development Cooperation, wants to contribute to. Together with local organisations in developing countries, Hivos strives for a world in which all citizens – both men and women – have equal access to resources and opportunities for development.\r\nHivos is a Dutch non-governmental organisation guided by humanist values. A number of its core values are human dignity and self determination, an aversion to dogmas and totalitarian regimes, and a sense of mutual solidarity. The organisation is committed to poor and marginalised peoples in Africa, Asia and Latin America. It strives for the long-term improvement of their circumstances and for the empowerment of women in particular.\r\n\r\nThe work of Hivos aims at structurally alleviating poverty, with an emphasis on civil society building and on sustainable economic development. The efforts of Hivos are focused on nine themes: financial services and business development; sustainable production; human rights and democratisation; HIV/AIDS; gender, women and development; art and culture; ICT & media; advocacy and communication; and the knowledge programme. You can read more about each one of these themes on this website.\r\n\r\nJoining forces and pooling resources is crucial to achieve the objectives of Hivos. Hivos supports over 800 partner organisations in more than 30 countries through financial means and institutional support as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience. In addition, Hivos works together with a number of organisations, companies and governments in the Netherlands and Europe, and it belongs to various national and international networks. Hivos also conducts advocacy activities itself in the Netherlands, throughout Europe and worldwide.\r\n\r\nHivos is a non-governmental organisation with a societal goal which plays a public role. Hivos is one of the four largest organisations in the ‘co-financing system’ of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Dutch general public, the Dutch government, other sponsors, partners and partner organisations in developing countries are the most important stakeholders.\r\n\r\nHivos is ISO certified; it has the CBF quality mark and is one of the beneficiaries of the Dutch National Postcode Lottery.",

"description": "The organisation:\r\nVia local partners Connect International (CI) supports local communities to develop themselves. To reach this, innovative information systems and technologies are used. These so called Smart tecs are simple and affordable water- and sanitation solutions that in general can be produced locally.\r\nThe keyword is reparability, users are able to the maintenance themselves and spareparts are affordable and available. A Smart tec example is the rope pump, an innovative low cost handpump now used by 3 million people. Others examples are Rota sludge and Baptist well drilling, Tube groundwater recharge, Easy drip irrigation, Siphon water filters and VIP latrines.\r\n\r\nThe partnership: \r\nConnect International supports Akvo with examples of good practices but also informs on failures, this because experiences indicate, “Simple is not easy”. A successful introduction of a simple technology requires, professional guidance. Learning from the past and combining the experiences of the Akvo partners, cost of water and sanitation can be reduced and sustainability increased.",

"description": "The Faculty of Archaeology of Leiden University is the only archaeology faculty in the Netherlands. This independence makes it possible to pursue an efficient and stimulating policy in the fields of education and research, and to take advantage of new developments. The faculty is located in the Reuvens Building on the Reuvensplaats.\r\n\r\nThe ambition of the faculty is to develop into a prominent archaeological research and training centre at a European level. In European terms, the faculty is an averagely-sized institute, with a wide range of specializations and several specialist (laboratory) facilities. Leiden can pride itself on a long archaeological tradition, going back to Professor Reuvens at the beginning of the 19th century.\r\n\r\nApart from the traditionally strong Prehistory of Northwestern Europe and Classical Archaeology, Leiden offers (as the only university in the Netherlands) a specialization in the Palaeolithic, and in the archaeology of the civilizations of the Near East, Asia, and the Americas, as well as a number of archaeological sciences, such as pollen analysis, archaeozoology, computer applications, ceramology, and microwear analysis.\r\n\r\nThe variety of non-western language and culture studies within the Faculty of Arts (CNWS), and the presence in Leiden of the National Museums of Ethnology and Antiquities, as well as Naturalis, are also enhancing factors.\r\n\r\nA clearly social responsibility of archaeology is the care of the material heritage of past cultures. International treaties (for instance Valetta) state that archaeological investigations should be carried out prior to large building projects. The faculty is active in this field via a commercial company. Hence, students get quickly involved in the practical side (traineeships) of archaeology, with attention to the managerial side of archaeological work. In addition, the faculty has agreements of cooperation with local archaeological services in the surroundings (Leiden, The Hague, Delft).\r\n\r\nAt present, the faculty has a strong market position in the Netherlands. In the last few years, the faculty has been able to welcome more than 80 new students annually. At present, the total number of students amounts to about 350.\r\n",

"description": "Amref is de belangrijkste Afrikaanse gezondheidsorganisatie; in Nederland heten we Amref Flying Doctors. In Afrika heten we Amref Health Africa. ",

AFEW is the only non-governmental organisation operating in EECA that was specifically created to address HIV in the region and advocates to make the epidemic a priority in the social and political discourse and to stimulate prompt and appropriate action.\r\n\r\nOur Vision and Core Values\r\n\r\nThe vision of AIDS Foundation East-West is a world in which HIV does not destroy lives through stigma and discrimination and where all people, regardless of their HIV status, have access to healthcare and other services that give them the opportunity to achieve their full potential. As such, through its work, AFEW employs a set of core values.\r\n\r\nAFEW is a learning organisation in the broadest sense of the word\r\nLearning from best-practice experiences elsewhere in the world and from knowledge gained in EECA, AFEW develops innovative tools and approaches adapted to a specific context. AFEW builds upon its own practical experience within the region, strives for ongoing improvements in its practices, and manages and transfers knowledge to the relevant stakeholders.\r\n\r\nAFEW strengthens the capacity of professionals in EECA\r\nAFEW strengthens the capacity of professionals in the region through the adoption of effective methods of HIV prevention, treatment, care and support given the specific circumstances in their countries. AFEW sees its role as providing assistance in such a way that appropriate action is taken, with the objective of strengthening local capacity and ensuring that the final responsibility remains with those in the society itself. \r\n\r\nAFEW is fundamentally a humanitarian organisation\r\nThrough its work practices, AFEW contributes to the development of just, compassionate, open and democratic societies, firmly based on the principles of social justice, which affirms the dignity of each human being and emphasises the need for tolerance and co-operation. \r\n\r\nAFEW is a transparent and accountable organisation\r\nAFEW is fully transparent in terms of its structure, planning, decision-making, reporting and fundraising.\r\n\r\nAFEW believes in compassion and the professionalism of its staff and this is reflected in our actions",

"description": "Both ENDS sees a world out of balance. Nature, and therefore people, in developing countries are paying the price for our economic growth and our Western consumption patterns. Because energy demand is growing explosively in Western countries, huge tracts of usable land in developing countries are expropriated and used for crops such as rapeseed, corn, soybean and sugar cane. This is then used as raw materials for biofuels, not as food. Not only is this monoculture very bad for the environment (for several reasons), but it compromises food security. This is just one of many abuses in developing countries that are caused by our excessive consumption patterns.",

IUCN publishes the Red List of Threatened Species and is the only environmental organization with official UN Observer Status. IUCN unites more than 1,200 government and NGO members and almost 11,000 volunteer experts in some 160 countries.\r\n\r\nWithin the international IUCN umbrella organization, IUCN NL helps the world find pragmatic solutions to our most pressing environment and development challenges such as biodiversity loss, climate change and poverty. Nature is fundamental to addressing these problems. Natural capital is the foundation of our economy and our wellbeing. It provides us with food, clean water, fresh air, energy, medicine and a roof over our head. That is why the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems is at the heart of IUCN's mission.\r\n\r\nIUCN currently has 38 Netherlands-based member organizations. In striving towards a sustainable future we work closely with these members and our network of companies, governments, southern NGOs and scientists, sharing knowledge and expertise, executing concrete projects and influencing the political agenda. We focus on three themes: green international cooperation, greening companies, and restoring and conserving nature. \r\n",

Research Africa creates activities that effectively expand opportunities for the ‘Base of the Pyramid’ in developing countries. Our business model engages and empowers low-income individuals as valued consumers of a wide variety of products and services. In exchange for their feedback the short-term benefit for respondents is the mobile phone credit they receive for participating in surveys. Long-term benefits will involve organizations designing and implementing more tailored strategies towards their target groups, which in turn leads to better activities, products and services based on peoples’ needs. \r\n\r\nResearch Africa is a newly launched business set up by Text to Change.
