"description": "The Evangelical Children Rehabilitation Program (ECREP) is a local non-governmental organization established in August 2003 during the heart of the crisis in Liberia,(commonly known as world war 1, 2& 3) when men ,women and children were brutalized, and killed in cold blood. Mostly discouragingly, children became vulnerable, lost their childhood right of protection and care and were forced to either join the fighting forces or roam the streets in search of protection and security. Consequently, their future became bleak and hopeless. It is against this background that the vision to establish an organization to cater to the holistic needs of the children was seen. Hence, on August 16, 2003, this vision was born and a Board of Directors comprising of seven persons was formed to provide support and guidance in the implementation of the organization’s vision.\r\n\r\nSince 2003 to date ECREP has been providing humanitarian services in most parts of Liberia involving rehabilitation, reconstruction and development services benefiting more than 100,000 men, women and children in nine of the fifteen political sub-divisions of Liberia; namely, Montserrado, Grand Gedeh, Grand Bassa, Grand cape Mount, Margi, Rivercess, Maryland, Sinoe and Nimba Counties.\r\n\r\nVision: ECREP envisages a peaceful, safe and healthy environment where high qualities of life for the children are exhibited.\r\n\r\nMission: To help alleviate and respond to the causes of an unsafe and unhealthy environment for the children, thereby creating an avenue where their basic needs are met.\r\n\r\nCore Value: Love, Accountability, justice, Indiscrimination and Environmental protection\r\n\r\nMotto: ‘’ Rescuing the children’’\r\n\r\nBoard of Directors\r\nThe program has a Board of Directors comprising of seven (7) persons. The Chairman of the Board of Directors has the direct oversight responsibility to work with the management team in implementing the vision and mission of the organization.\r\n\r\nManagement Team\r\nThe management Team comprises of the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director who run the affairs of the program. The Executive Director is the principal deputy to the Chief Executive Officer. The team also include the Program Coordinator, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer and the Adm/Finance Officer. At the field level, a County Coordinator is assigned in each county of operation who is responsible to run the affairs of ECREP with the advice and consent of the management team.\r\n\r\nThematic focus:\r\n- Water and sanitation \r\n- Agriculture/Aquaculture/food Security \r\n- Psycho-social counseling(HIV/AIDS, SGBV, Gender development)\r\n- Infrastructure rehabilitation/construction \r\n",

We are able to share best practices across regions and place a strong focus on capacity-building by forming partnerships with academia, civil society organizations, donors, governments, media, private sector, and others. Our work helps to effect the regulatory and structural changes needed for broad water and sanitation sector reform.\r\n \r\nOur challenge is to replicate successful approaches, continue targeted learning efforts, and support reforms that ensure the adoption of sustainable investments in the sector that help people rise from poverty.",

"description": "Plan Liberia has been recognized and certificated by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs, Republic of Liberia to legally operate within its borders as an international non-government organization. See attached Certification of Accreditation. \r\n\r\nPlan began operations in Liberia in 1982, focusing on community-based programming in water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental services, as well as education health and livelihoods. Over the years, Plan has partnership with the Government of Liberia, civil society organizations, children, families and communities to ensure better growth and development of Liberian children. Plan Liberia has learned that a blend of national level and community-based programming is necessary for the fulfillment of the rights of all children in Liberia. Between 1982 and 1993, Plan Liberia’s work reached over 200,000 Liberian children, their parents, caregivers and communities. In 1993, Plan suspended its operations in Liberia due to escalating security risks, but resumed operations in the country in 2006. Plan has its Country Office in Monrovia, as well as a Programme Unit (PU) in Lofa County in northern Liberia, and another PU in Bomi County in western Liberia. Plan also has sub-offices in Nimba County and Grand Gedeh County. These offices focus mainly on providing education and child protection in emergencies, particularly for Ivorian refugees and their host communities.\r\n",

UNICEF became a permanent part of the UN General Assembly in 1953 and began a successful global campaign against yaws, a disfiguring disease affecting millions of children, and one that can be cured with penicillin.\r\nUNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. \r\nUNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behavior towards children.\r\nUNICEF insists that the survival, protection and development of children are universal development imperatives that are integral to human progress.\r\nUNICEF mobilizes political will and material resources to help countries, particularly developing countries, ensure a \"first call for children\" and to build their capacity to form appropriate policies and deliver services for children and their families.\r\nUNICEF is committed to ensuring special protection for the most disadvantaged children - victims of war, disasters, extreme poverty, all forms of violence and exploitation and those with disabilities.\r\nUNICEF responds in emergencies to protect the rights of children. In coordination with United Nations partners and humanitarian agencies, UNICEF makes its unique facilities for rapid response available to its partners to relieve the suffering of children and those who provide their care.\r\nUNICEF is non-partisan and its cooperation is free of discrimination. In everything it does, the most disadvantaged children and the countries in greatest need have priority.\r\nUNICEF aims, through its country programmes, to promote the equal rights of women and girls and to support their full participation in the political, social, and economic development of their communities.\r\nUNICEF works with all its partners towards the attainment of the sustainable human development goals adopted by the world community and the realization of the vision of peace and social progress enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.\r\n",

"description": "Improve International was founded in 2011 to find ways to improve the responses to the water & sanitation crisis. We believe that people deserve to have high quality water and sanitation services, not just for life, but for generations. We believe that independent evaluation of water and sanitation programs in developing countries will identify objectively what’s really working well and what’s not (and why). By promoting learning and innovation, we hope to help improve the work and coordination of international development organizations so that generations can enjoy safe water and convenient toilets.\r\n\r\nImprove International helps the Millenium Water Alliance to define, develop and execute a learning agenda for the Millennium Water Alliance – Latin America Program (MWA-LAP) that will result in the sharing and transfer of knowledge and best practices among the implementing partners of this program and the production of evidence based advocacy materials that can be shared with the global WASH sector.",

"description": "History.\r\nWe became interested in the very poor North-Eastern part of Bali after a chance visit. An impoverised very dry area. There are no industies and there is hardly any tourism .After sponsoring some children and seeing the very poor state of general education (no books, not enough furniture or any other teaching materials we formed two foundations. Stichting Fondsenwerving Pacung Bali in the Netherlands (finding funds) and Yayasan Gemah Ripah(executive foundation) in Bali. Also we found funds to build training places for those children who liked to work with their hands.\r\nThis resulted in a garage, a weavery, a welding- and a furniture workshop.\r\nAll of them are now self sufficient. \r\n\r\n GOALS\r\n In time our goals changed from only supporting children from poor\r\n families to get an education and helping schools.\r\n We still help poor children to get an education but we were also able to build our own Educational, Social and Cultural Centre(see DVD). \r\n\r\n ACTIVITIES.\r\na. At the moment we have an(almost) free kindergarten visited by 35\r\n children who could otherwise not go to school. \r\nb. We have an extracurricular teaching program for primary\r\n school children. Visited by 115 children. Teaching topics are:\r\n 1. English conversation and grammar.\r\n 2. World Orientation.\r\n 3. Art / computer abilities / mathematics and science.\r\nc. On Sundays a similar program for 50 children from Junior and\r\n Senior Highschool. For them there are also debating groups and\r\n homework assistence. Teaching topics are\r\n 1. English conversation and grammar.\r\n 2. World Orientation and science.\r\n\r\nd. Our main interest at the moment though is the training of young\r\n teachers with the objective to propagate the modern (for Indonesia\r\n innovative) teaching methods in more places in Bali and Indonesia. \r\n\r\nSince 2010 there a close cooperation with the Ruud Stoop Culture School was established.",

"description": "Food is a basic necessity of life. Yet more than 800 million people in developing countries aren’t getting enough of it. Small-scale farmers are the people that drive the development of regions that are torn by war and conflicts. They ensure that communities have enough to eat, they serve as employers and they bring together people who previously didn’t trust one another.\r\n\r\nWhen farmers work together they always provide a fresh basis for peaceful development. By working together they have more impact in boosting production. They are also better placed to speak from a position of strength when negotiating with their governments for improved services, infrastructure, access to water when it’s in short supply, grazing land and clearer land rights.\r\n\r\nCordaid helps create the right preconditions for small-scale farmers. By offering the required technological knowhow and training, for example. By giving them more insight into the market and improving their access to it. And by strengthening the position of farmers in their region and country.\r\n\r\nCordaid contributes to food security and works on reducing the number of conflicts. In this way Cordaid is creating the opportunities for communities to flourish.\r\n",

"description": "African Monitor has taken time to understand how the poor currently live and survive, hypothesizing that a better understanding of how communities currently survive will lead to improved understanding of how development actors can work with grassroots communities to strengthen and sustain their livelihoods. We at African Monitor learnt that most of the poor survive by engaging actively and creatively in small income generating activities within the informal sector. They consist of the rural poor primarily engaged in agriculture, the isolated urban poor located in slums and shanty towns, and masses of young people excluded from formal economic activity. Realizing this, the question African Monitor is asking is “how does one design development systems and economies which works for grassroots communities?”\r\n\r\nFrom the perspective of grassroots communities with which African Monitor works, the message is clear – the African Moment will be realized when all of Africa’s citizens are able to effectively access the continent’s resources and economic opportunities so that they can independently generate and sustain their own livelihoods. It is clear that grassroots communities are largely not seeking handouts – but rather seek the same opportunities afforded to others, which make it possible to survive and thrive. To address this current urgent need, African Monitor has adopted an agenda to Unlock the African Moment for grassroots communities, by promoting policies, approaches and practices that increase grassroots’ ‘capability to function’; and those that unlock the grassroots potential to be the drivers of Africa’s economic rejuvenation.",
