The Board of Trustees consists of five members who all have a long experience and expertise on human rights, child rights and sustainable development issues. \r\nAs a partner Organisation of ICCO/ Kerkinactie-The Netherlands since 2002 CCRD has been implementing programmes as a child rights organisation to support NGO’s, Campaigns & Networks of Child Rights and the Government of Tamil Nadu by providing Capacity Enhancement Trainings along with documentation and information dissemination services, including advocacy initiatives for influencing public policy and law including its effective implementation. This support from ICCO/kerkinactie over the years has enabled CCRD to establish itself as a “Resource Centre for Child Rights” at the State level supporting NGO’s working in different districts of Tamil Nadu including various campaigns and networks both at the national level and state level. The funding for the Resource Centre activities all these years has been mainly provided by ICCO/Kerkinactie-The Netherlands. \r\nThe need for CCRD to sustain itself as a “State level Resource Centre on Child Rights” on a long term basis, emanates from the experience of working with different NGO’s across the state, children themselves and specially targeted groups like representatives of local bodies, Anganwadi workers, Teachers, SHG leaders, Students of Social Work & Law, Academicians, Government officials and UN Agencies. This experience over the years has provided adequate intellectual stimulation and reflection opportunities to CCRD to gain a deeper understanding to intensify the existing Campaign, Advocacy and Social Mobilization initiatives in Tamil Nadu to promote and protect children’s rights. Further and most importantly CCRD has the goodwill and support of more than 75 NGOs organisations spread across different districts of Tamil Nadu and good rapport with academic institutions, government agencies, UN organisations like ILO, UNICEF and leadership positions in important campaigns & networks both at the state level and national level to implement programmes towards ensuring the “best interest of children”. In these endeavours, LWF Nepal cooperates within its networks that include ecumenical, government and non-government, and community-based partner organisations.\r\n\r\nEstablished in 1984, LWF Nepal is a leading international INGO active in both development and humanitarian works. Originally engaged in sectoral development, then community development projects, LWF Nepal made a major switch in 1997 to empowerment projects. It considers right-based approach as the key to development process. \r\n\r\nLWF Nepal designs and implements all development and emergency works following empowerment and human rights-based approach that builds capacity and competence of poor, oppressed and vulnerable people to collectively achieve improvements for their quality and dignified lives. At the one hand, this approach enhances the rights holders in leading the way through proactive interventions while at the other hand it attempts to make state and other stakeholders accountable in their duties. LWF Nepal works through integrated and collaborative approach to reflect the interdependent and multifaceted nature of poverty, exclusion and injustice on the ground. It tries to ensure that the need for action is coherent and inter-connected. The integrated approach includes deliberate efforts to ensure operational collaboration with other actors and thematic programs that become supplementary and complementary to each other. \r\n\r\nLWF Nepal has three strategic thematic areas;\r\n- Emergency Response and Disaster Risk Management (ERDRM): Thematic objective is to see affected people and communities are prepared for, able to respond effectively to, and recover from all types of disasters and complex emergencies.\r\n- Sustainable Livelihoods: Thematic objective is to demonstrate greater number of poor and marginalized achieves sustainable livelihoods. Many also decode Dalit as untouchable. Dalit people have not been socially included in mainstream due to their so called “impure” profession e.g. skinning, tanning, shoe polishing, sweeping, sewerage cleaning, burying of dead bodies, saloon, drum beating, washing, etc. Literacy rate among the Dalits is about 25% which is far behind from the national average.\r\n\r\n“Dalit” to “DALIT” as an Organization\r\nThe organization has been named “DALIT” to represent the Dalit and indigenous community people. DALIT got registration from NGO Affairs Bureau (N.1374) in 1999. Some Dalit people were the visionary-dreamers of DALIT and autobiography of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar was their immense inspiration. DALIT approaches to the Dalit community with employment opportunities, health and education facilities. Actually DALIT is a one of the non profit organization, working for empowerment of socially excluded groups to lend a hand them to meet up their basic needs. Human resource development and exploring potentiality of the Dalit indigenous community people are the ultimate goal and objective of the organization. DALIT started its Water, Sanitation, Arsenic Mitigation and Hygiene Promotion in 2003 through community led ‘integrated, participatory, empowering’ approach. DALIT’s goal is to provide sustainable and integrated water, sanitation, arsenic mitigation and hygiene promotion services in the remote rural areas and break the contamination cycle of unsanitary latrines, contaminated water and unsafe hygiene practices. The program aims to ensure access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene promotion services for the disadvantaged communities in remote rural areas of Khulna, Jessore and Satkhira districts with the donor support. The core of the program is the CBOs as main actor at community level to assess existing water and sanitation situation of the entire village and identify issues that need urgent action. They select sites for community water sources, collect contribution money and monitor usage and maintenance of community water points and latrines. To strengthen the capacity of CBOs, DALIT provided various training for their capacity development in a way to achieve national targets as well as Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) sets the target of achieving 100% sanitation and safe water coverage by 2015. \r\n\r\nDALIT interventions are to improve the health of the disadvantaged population in an affordable, equitable and sustainable way in reducing the burden of disease, relieve human suffering and ensure considerable economic benefits, with particular focus on reducing child morbidity and mortality. Mention that hand washing alone can reduce mortality by 42%. Among the constraints to improve water and sanitation are the lack of hygienic knowledge and practices, insufficient and inadequate financial resources, and inappropriate adaptation of drinking water sources and sanitation systems. The community led approaches in the ASWASH program may help to conceptualize the water and sanitation situation, leading towards a solution overcoming these constraints. It will help the community to understand the necessity of integrating safe water, sanitation and hygiene practices, which might be a more effective measure than providing only complimentary hardware.\r\nThe situation of rural sanitation, hygiene and water supply in Bangladesh indicates that 32% people use sanitary latrines, 9% people open defecating, 20% people use hanging latrines, 7% children with diarrhea, 15% safe disposal of faces of children of under 5, and 72%* people have access to safe drinking water.
